Abstract

This study aims to explore the practical implementation of the national Arabic language curriculum based on the Decree of the Minister of Religious Affairs (KMA) Number 183 of 2019 in the context of pesantren-based madrasahs, particularly at MA Miftahul Ulum Al-Azizah. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through classroom observation, interviews with teachers, and analysis of curriculum documentation. The results of the study show that (1) Madrasah Aliyah Miftahul Ulum Al-Azizah formally adopts the national curriculum and uses the textbook “Ayo Fasih Berbahasa Arab” (Let's Be Fluent in Arabic), but its implementation is adjusted due to the institution's ban on the use of digital devices. (2) To overcome these limitations, teachers apply a spiral-Hybrid model that integrates the modern curriculum with classical Islamic texts (turats) such as Al-Jurumiyyah and Alfiyyah Ibnu Malik. This model not only overcomes technological limitations but also deepens students' syntactic and morphological understanding, thereby promoting more in-depth linguistic competence. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that curriculum adaptation based on local pedagogical traditions can be an effective alternative in educational environments with limited resources. This study contributes to the discourse on contextual curriculum development in Arabic language teaching in religious educational environments.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the phenomenon of Arabic phonological assimilation among beginner students in Islamic boarding schools, with a particular focus on the application of idghām rules. The research is motivated by the observation that many novice learners struggle to connect written Arabic texts with accurate pronunciation, which affects their reading fluency and comprehension. The study employed a qualitative case study design using classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The data were analyzed descriptively to identify phonological errors and the underlying factors contributing to assimilation difficulties. The findings reveal that beginner learners encounter significant challenges in applying the rules of idghām, mainly due to limited phonological awareness, the absence of explicit phonological instruction, and interference from their native language. However, the results also indicate that systematic guidance and repeated practice gradually improve students’ pronunciation accuracy. The implications of these findings highlight the importance of developing explicit, contextual, and technology-based phonological instruction that addresses the specific needs of beginner learners in Islamic boarding schools. Furthermore, the study opens avenues for future research to compare phonological acquisition in pesantren and formal schools, evaluate the effectiveness of digital media in supporting phonological awareness, and conduct longitudinal studies to trace the development of assimilation competence over time.

Abstract

Learning media has an important role in the teaching and learning process. In SMP Negeri 2 Paciran, facilities in the form of LCDs have been provided that can be used for learning media, but subject teachers there do not utilize the media enough. Therefore, the researcher took the initiative to apply bamboozle media as a learning media that utilizes the school's facilities. The research method in this study is quantitative experiment (pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest). There are 5 steps in implementing bamboozle media in learning, namely: a) Preparing quiz questions, b) Dividing students into several groups, c) displaying bamboozle media on the LCD screen, d) Students choose numbers containing quiz questions alternately for all groups until the available numbers run out, e) Giving rewards to groups with the highest points. 2) after conducting a series of studies, it was found that the number of t counts was greater than t table, so H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted either at a significant level of 0.05 or 0.01. While the results of the questionnaire obtained the category "Very High" with the results of the calculation of the Likert scale of 85%. From the results above, it can be seen that the bamboozle learning media can be said to be suitable for use as an Arabic language learning media for class VIII students of SMP Negeri 2 Paciran in the 2023/2024 academic year.

Abstract

Language proficiency (LP) is an important aspect of mastering good and correct language. However, many students face difficulties in understanding and applying it effectively. This is often due to learning curricula that lack context and active student participation. Students work collaboratively to identify, analyze, and find solutions to complex problems relevant to their lives. This study employs a quantitative research approach with experimental research methods. The study population in this study was seventh-grade students, with a total of 52 students, while the sample was taken from seventh-grade A, with a total of 25 students, using a simple random sampling method. The data analysis method is in the form of statistical analysis and analysis of pre- and post-test results using SPSS 27 and Microsoft Excel, including the correct-test, the fixed-test, the standard-test, and the Wilcoxon-test. The results of this study on the Wilcoxon test showed that the sig 0.000 value was less than 0.05, which means that there is a difference between the pre-test and post-test results, so it can be said that there is a positive effect of PBL between the pre-test and post-test results of seventh-grade students at Fatahillah Islamic Middle School in Semarang in understanding the subject and predicate. The implementation of PBL in ALL can increase students' motivation, critical thinking skills, and language proficiency. This method encourages active student participation, so that they understand the material better and can apply it in a real-life context.

Abstract

Changing the curriculum requires various academic communities to quickly adapt to all changes. The Merdeka Curriculum at MAN Kota Blitar was only implemented in the 2023/2024 school year. This study aims to describe the problems of teachers and students in learning Arabic using the Merdeka Curriculum at MAN Kota Blitar. Researchers used case study research with data collection techniques in the form of observation, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed by following the stages of Miles & Huberman, namely reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study found that the problems faced by teachers focused on the pedagogical aspects of teaching, namely (1) developing teaching modules for the Merdeka Curriculum, (2) choosing a learning model that is relevant to the Merdeka Curriculum, and (3) applying formative assessment in learning.  Meanwhile, student problems are classified into internal and external problems. Internal problems faced by students in learning Arabic are (1) lack of basic Arabic language skills and (2) low motivation to learn. While external problems are (1) a less supportive environment and (2) limited learning resources.

Abstract

Sayid Abdullah Al-Haddad was one of the leading Muslim intellectuals of his time who was also famous as a Sufistic writer. Among his kasidah compositions that are often hummed by activists of sholawat assemblies in Indonesia is Ilzam Bab Rabbik. This kasidah contains a moral message not to be too upset in living destiny and focus on seeking the pleasure of Allah SWT. This article aims to reveal Abdullah Al-haddad's Sufism practices contained in the kasidah and its relevance to prophetic literature. The research data is in the form of kasidah Ilzam Bab Rabbik taken from the Diwan Al-Haddad poetry anthology using reading and recording techniques which include sorting and classifying data into tables. Then the data is analyzed using the hermeneutic method that has been classified according to the rules of prophetic literature, namely humanization, liberation, and transcendence. It is obtained from the results of this study that the kasidah Ilzam Bab Rabbik uses the mukhammas poem pattern (which emerged in the Abbasid era) and contains three prophetic literary concepts, namely humanization and liberation and transcendence with the dominance of the transcendence aspect. The formal and material objects of this kind of study are still not widely done, so this research is expected to contribute to realizing awareness and piety collectively in the Muslim community in particular.

Abstract

The lack of engaging instructional media in Arabic language education remains a persistent issue in the educational domain. This study aims to examine the extent to which the implementation of audio-visual media, as a response to digital-based learning, has contributed to the improvement of female students’ learning outcomes at Ma’had Al-Jami’ah IAIN Kerinci. Employing a qualitative method with a grounded theory approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation within the Arabic specialization program that incorporates audio-visual media in its instructional process. The findings reveal that instructional media remain largely dominated by traditional approaches, which have yet to fully accommodate the diverse learning styles of female students. These findings underscore the importance of integrating technology into the learning process in this digital era. The final results of this study indicate that the use of audio-visual-based instructional media in Arabic language education actively contributes to enhancing both student engagement and academic achievement. This is evidenced by a more enjoyable and dynamic learning environment. This research calls on Arabic language educators to optimize the use of digital-based learning media for female students, suggesting that with varied content delivery formats, audio-visual media presents a viable solution for interactive 21st-century learning.

Abstract

Language is an evolving entity shaped by the communicative needs of its speakers. In the context of modern Arabic, changes in word meanings are one form of adaptation to the advancement of time. This study aims to analyze the semantic shifts of five Arabic vocabulary items from the classical to the modern era, identify the types of changes, and explore the underlying causes. A qualitative descriptive approach is employed, using lexical semantic analysis based on literature review. Data were collected by compiling a list of vocabulary items that exhibit meaning shifts, tracing their usage in modern sources, and comparing them with their classical meanings found in secondary references. The primary data source is the modern dictionary Mu'jam al-Ma'ani, while classical meanings are drawn from journal articles as supporting references. The findings reveal that semantic expansion is the most dominant type of change, followed by shift and total change. The contributing factors include technological development, semantic association, and the need for modern terminology. This study highlights that modern Arabic demonstrates a high degree of flexibility in adopting new terms without losing the roots of classical meanings.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and describe the aspects of happiness in the poem “Thabat Biki Al-Ayyama Wa Frahtahu” by Ibrahim Naji based on Martin Seligman's Authentic Happiness theory. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The data taken comes from the text of Ibrahim Naji's poems based on the positive psychology approach and were collected using a reading-and-note technique that involved intensive reading and textual analysis. The result of this research is that there are three dimensions of happiness: Pleasant Life, Good Life, and Meaningful Life, which are depicted through the struggle, love, and hope of the character “I”. The analysis found that the character “I” achieved authentic happiness through deep reflection, emotional management, and the search for the meaning of life. Although the poem appears melancholic, elements of happiness are explicitly and implicitly present, making it a complex yet positive emotional representation. This study confirms that happiness can be found through the integration of positive emotions with a deeper meaning of life, in accordance with the principles of positive psychology.
