Abstract

Local wisdom is understood as local policy (local wisdom), local knowledge (local knowledge), or local intelligence (local genius). It may be interpreted as the product of human intellect, deep feelings, character, behavioral patterns, and moral guidance aimed at achieving human dignity. Mastery of local wisdom elevates individuals toward noble character. The concept of local wisdom held by the Selayar community is partially implemented in dideq oral texts. These concepts need to be documented, revitalized, and disseminated so that they continue to live within the community to which they belong and become part of individual character formation not only for the Selayar people, but also for the wider community of South Sulawesi and Indonesian society in general. This study aims to reveal concepts of local wisdom, particularly the attitudes of sipakatau, sipakaingaq, and sipakalabbiriq found in dideqoral literature. The primary data were collected through field research using recording, interviews, transliteration, and translation techniques. Data analysis was conducted based on Roland Barthes’ concepts of denotative and connotative meaning. The results of the study indicate that sipakatau and sipakalabbiriq are two inseparable values. Mutual respect and mutual appreciation coexist and strongly characterize the life of the Selayar community, as clearly reflected in dideq texts. Meanwhile, sipakaingaq represents an attitude of mutual reminder among community members, manifested in behavior, speech, and religious observance.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ understanding of the Makassar local language among eighth-grade students at SMP Telkom Makassar. The research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The participants consisted of seven Grade VIII classes involving 183 students. The research instrument was a multiple-choice test administered before and after the instructional intervention. Data were analyzed descriptively and using normalized gain (g) based on Hake’s formula. The results show that the average pre-test scores ranged from 35.58 to 43.27 and increased to 62.24–83.52 in the post-test. The g-Hake analysis indicates that six classes achieved a medium improvement category (g = 0.342–0.557), while one class reached a high category (g = 0.734), with an overall weighted g of 0.513. These findings indicate that Makassar language instruction is effective in improving students’ understanding and has potential to strengthen linguistic competence and preserve local culture in schools.

Abstract

Indonesian Language for non-native speakers is generally taught through formal schools with comprehensive learning facilities and professional teachers. Indonesian language lessons for non-native speakers are not entirely intended for foreign citizens but are also needed by Indonesian citizens who have lived for generations outside Indonesia. As a result, they need to relearn Indonesian language and culture. Kursus Pengetahuan Dasar Indonesia (KPDI) Davao, Philippines is a program created by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in the Davao working area which aims to Indonesianize Indonesian descendants spread across the Davao region, Philippines. However, this program did not run optimally due to the lack of professional teachers and adequate learning facilities. Despite efforts by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Davao to provide modules for teachers or instructors and implement monitoring and evaluation programs to ensure the learning is ongoing. This research aims to provide input on nature-based learning designs that can be implemented easily and efficiently by instructors to help improve students' vocabulary and communication skills at Kursus Pengetahuan Dasar Indonesia (KPDI) in Davao, Mindanao, Philippines. Using a qualitative approach, data collection was carried out through interviews, observation, and literature studies. The results of the research show the importance of improving modules, mentoring and providing direction to teachers to design learning methods with students-based learning approaches.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate how student learning results, teacher professional development, and the efficacy of school administration are affected by the shift in leadership in the digital age in technology-driven management of education governance. A qualitative research approach was used in the study's design, and semi-structured interviews with teachers, students, and school administrators were used to collect data. Triangulation method was used in the research to analyse school policy documents and practices pertaining to technology integration. At SD Muhammadiyah 14 Palembang, the results demonstrated a considerable improvement in students' academic performance through technology-based education management. Personalized learning materials are made available to students through the use of educational software and online resources, which also improves academic performance. Furthermore, the use of digital platforms for feedback and evaluation has made it easier for teachers to monitor students' progress in real time and effectively, enabling them to offer focused interventions. The present study underscores the noteworthy influence of technology-driven education governance on the academic achievements of students, the professional growth of educators, and the efficiency of school administration at SD Muhammadiyah 14 Palembang. The study points up a number of integration-related difficulties that school administrators must carefully analyse and handle. The study's recommendations are intended to address these issues and enhance the efficacy of SD Muhammadiyah 14 Palembang's technology-based education management in the digital age.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Window-Shopping Bag method in improving students’ English vocabulary mastery. Conducted at SMAN 1 Fef, the research used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 7 tenth-grade students selected from an original population of 19 students, chosen based on consistent attendance and willingness to participate. All participants had very limited English proficiency and struggled to recognize even basic vocabulary. The research involved a pretest to assess initial vocabulary knowledge, followed by treatment sessions using the Window-Shopping Bag method, which engaged students in interactive, contextual learning through simulated shopping activities with labeled items and role-play. A posttest was administered to evaluate vocabulary improvement. The results showed a significant increase in scores, with the average pretest score at 42.86 and the posttest average rising to 72.16. The N-Gain score was 0.51, which falls into the medium category. According to the decision rule, since the N-Gain score is greater than 0.3, the null hypothesis is rejected, indicating that the Window-Shopping Bag method is effective in enhancing students’ vocabulary mastery. The method proved to be suitable for small groups with low proficiency, especially in remote areas with limited learning resources. It is recommended that future research involve a larger sample size and a longer period of implementation to better understand the method’s long-term impact.

Abstract

This study examines Cenning Rara, a sacred oral tradition in Buginese culture, through an anthropolinguistic perspective. Unlike narrative folklore, Cenning Rara functions as a ritual speech performance recited in bridal preparations and personal adornment contexts, where language is believed to possess spiritual efficacy. This research aims to analyze the linguistic structure, figurative expressions, and indexical meanings embedded in selected Cenning Rara texts. The data were analyzed using morphemic segmentation, parts-of-speech identification, literal and free translation comparison, and interpretation of figurative language based on Perrine’s classification. In addition, indexicality and symbolic functions were examined to understand how meaning operates within ritual performance. The findings reveal that Cenning Rara employs metaphor, hyperbole, symbolism, and celestial imagery to construct ideals of beauty, loyalty, and spiritual purity. Linguistically, reduplication, affixation, and rhythmic repetition reinforce its poetic and performative qualities. Indexically, the ritual speech points to social identity, gender ideology, moral values (siri’, lempu’, pesse), and spiritual mediation between the physical and metaphysical realms. The study demonstrates that Cenning Rara is not merely aesthetic language but a performative act that sustains cultural continuity and reinforces Bugis cosmology. This research contributes to anthropolinguistic studies by highlighting how ritual language functions as both cultural resource and social action in contemporary Bugis society.
