Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of understanding of the concept of NSP of grade V students at SD Negeri Bedahan. Concept understanding is an important foundation in the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills, especially in learning Natural and Social Sciences (ESS) which contains various natural and social phenomena. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation studies. The research subjects consisted of the fifth grade homeroom teacher and 32 fifth grade students. The results showed that students' understanding of the concept of NSP was low. The main factors that influence this condition are the dominance of the lecture method which makes students passive, the use of learning media in the form of textbooks and videos, although learning facilities are adequate but the use of interactive learning media is still minimal. In addition, students tend to memorize concepts without understanding the deep meaning, and are embarrassed and afraid to ask questions when experiencing difficulties. This study recommends the need for the use of interactive learning methods and the utilization of digital interactive learning media to increase students' understanding of NSP concepts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the critical thinking skills of fourth grade students in the subject of Natural and Social Sciences (NSP) at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Ngimbang. The background of this study is the low critical thinking skills of students which is influenced by the use of media and learning methods that are still conventional and less interactive. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The results showed that the dominance of using textbooks as the main media causes learning to take place abstractly and monotonously, so that students become passive and have difficulty in understanding the material. Although the school has technology facilities, its utilization in learning is still minimal. The lack of contextual and interactive learning media causes low student concentration and has an impact on weak critical thinking skills and the application of knowledge in everyday life. This study recommends the use of more innovative learning media and teacher training in the utilization of technology to support critical thinking skills in accordance with the principles of Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' critical thinking abilities in the Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subjects at MI Muhammadiyah 18 Sumberrejo, Bojonegoro Regency. The background of the research is based on the low critical thinking skills of students, as seen from learning outcomes and learning processes that are still dominated by conventional methods. The study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach through data triangulation, including observations, interviews, and documentation studies of teachers and 53 fifth-grade students. The results of the study indicate that learning has not been student-centered, the use of media is less varied, and the use of technology is not yet optimal, so the five critical thinking indicators (focus, reasoning, inference, situation, and clarity) have not developed optimally. Documentation data also show that 75% of students scored below the Minimum Competency Criteria (KKM). These findings affirm the need for more interactive, contextual, and experiential IPAS learning innovations to enhance students' critical thinking skills. The research concludes that improving the quality of learning strategies is essential so that students can actively participate and develop higher-order thinking skills.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has begun to influence instructional practices in primary education, including Indonesian language learning. Although AI offers opportunities for automated feedback and personalized learning, existing studies in Indonesia have largely focused on AI use in general subjects or secondary and higher education levels, with limited empirical investigation into its application in primary-level Indonesian language instruction, particularly from the perspective of classroom teachers. Moreover, little is known about how teachers mediate AI use in relation to cultural and pedagogical appropriateness. Therefore, this study addresses this gap by exploring elementary school teachers’ perceptions and classroom experiences of AI integration in Indonesian language learning. This study aims to explore the perceptions and classroom experiences of Indonesian language teachers in utilizing AI for literacy learning in primary schools. A qualitative descriptive approach was used, involving twelve teachers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis. The findings show that teachers generally view AI as helpful in providing immediate corrective feedback, supporting instructional preparation, and increasing student engagement. However, challenges were also identified, including limited digital infrastructure, diverse teacher digital literacy, ethical concerns related to data security, and the risk of students relying too heavily on AI-generated suggestions. The study concluded that AI can make a meaningful contribution to Indonesian language learning when used under teacher supervision. Specifically, the results showed that teachers utilized AI to provide automatic corrections for spelling and structure, guide the process of developing open-ended sentence materials, and assist with task differentiation for students with varying abilities. Furthermore, it was found that teachers' limited digital literacy, limited availability of devices in schools, and a lack of formal training were key barriers to optimizing AI use. Therefore, educators play a mediating role to ensure that AI output remains pedagogically and culturally appropriate. Implications for policy development, teacher professional training, and future research are also discussed.
