Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of fi’il madhi and fi’il mudhari’ in the Qur'anic discourse along with their theological and rhetorical implications. In Arabic grammar, these two verb forms function not only as tense indicators but also carry profound dimensions of meaning according to the context of the verse. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a library research approach. The results indicate that fi’il madhi in the Qur'an is frequently used to emphasize certainty, even for future events guaranteed by Allah SWT. On the other hand, fi’il mudhari’ is utilized to denote continuity, renewal, and dynamic vivid description. A deep understanding of these verb form transitions is a crucial key in the science of tafsir to fully grasp moral, legal, and creedal messages. This analysis proves that every choice of diction in the Qur'an possesses linguistic precision that reinforces its linguistic miracle.

Abstract

This study discusses the position and validity of ‘urf as one of the legal foundations in Islamic law. ‘Urf is a habit or tradition that develops continuously within society and is recognized as something good by reason and social norms. The purpose of this study is to explain the meaning of ‘urf, its types, and its role as a legal argument in determining Islamic law. The method used in this research is a literature study by collecting data from books, scientific journals, and related articles. The results show that ‘urf can be used as a legal basis as long as it does not contradict the Qur’an, hadith, and the principles of Islamic law. Islamic scholars from various schools of thought acknowledge the existence of ‘urf shahih as a valid legal consideration, especially in matters not explicitly regulated in the religious texts. The existence of ‘urf demonstrates that Islamic law is flexible and capable of adapting to social and cultural developments in society. Therefore, ‘urf has an important role in maintaining public benefit and making Islamic law relevant in different times and places.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of ta'dib as a philosophical foundation in Islamic education and its importance in addressing today's educational challenges. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review of various relevant references. The results show that ta'dib places adab (ethics) at the center of education in shaping the whole person, encompassing intellectual, moral, spiritual, and social aspects. Unlike ta'lim (Islamic study), which focuses on the transmission of knowledge, and tarbiyah (Islamic education), which emphasizes the development of potential, ta'dib is more directed at the formation of morals and a sense of responsibility towards knowledge. In the era of globalization, ta'dib plays a crucial role in addressing the decline in students' morals. Its implementation is carried out through role models, habituation, the integration of adab values into learning, and collaboration across various educational environments. Thus, ta'dib is an effective approach in shaping a generation that is both knowledgeable and character-driven.

Abstract

Justice in contemporary Islamic studies faces an epistemic paradox: it is normatively rich yet practically impoverished. The discourse of justice remains trapped in textual articulations al-‘adl, al-qisṭ, and al-iḥsān while failing to respond to the realities of structural inequality, legal bias, and increasingly complex social fragmentation. A research gap emerges from the weak integration between Qur’anic concepts of justice, modern theories of social transformation, and the absence of an operational model capable of linking prophetic values with concrete social intervention. Existing literature remains fragmented: Sufism is separated from public ethics, amar ma‘rūf nahi munkar is reduced to moral advice, and counseling is treated merely as an individual practice rather than an emancipatory mechanism. This article employs a prophetic-emancipatory theoretical approach that integrates the epistemology of tawḥīd, Sufi ethics, and critical justice theory to reconstruct justice as a transformational praxis. The study adopts a qualitative-critical methodology through hermeneutical and discourse analysis, enabling the exploration of the relationship between revealed values, social structures, and contemporary dynamics of injustice. The central argument of this article asserts that justice can function transformatively only when actualized through prophetic-emancipatory counseling, a model of social counseling that positions amar ma‘rūf nahi munkar as a mechanism for diagnosis, critique, accompaniment, and community empowerment. Scientifically, the article contributes by offering a new theoretical model of prophetic justice that is integrative connecting spirituality, ethics, and social praxis and by expanding the domain of counseling in Islamic studies from the individual level to a structural-emancipatory framework. These findings are expected to serve as a conceptual foundation for future research and social justice movements inspired by prophetic values.

Abstract

The academic crisis in contemporary theological studies stems from the dominance of normative paradigms that tend to be scripturalistic, legalistic, and insufficiently responsive to the existential problems of modern humanity. As a result, theology experiences functional disorientation, failing to address crises of meaning, spiritual alienation, and the individual’s need for self-actualization. Although critical theology discourse has developed, there remains a research gap in the form of minimal systematic integration between theological approaches and humanistic–existential psychology, particularly in understanding religiosity as a lived experience. This study aims to reconstruct the paradigm of critical theology based on a humanistic–existential approach by referring to the theoretical framework of Abraham Maslow, especially the concepts of hierarchy of needs, self-actualization, and peak experience. The method employed is qualitative-conceptual research using an interdisciplinary approach that combines theological, philosophical, and psychological analysis through critical analysis techniques and hermeneutic synthesis. The main argument of this article asserts that theology needs to be repositioned from merely a system of normative doctrines toward an existential praxis that is humanizing, dialogical, and transformative. The integration of humanistic psychology enables theology to become more responsive to the inner dynamics of human beings and to function as a medium for the emancipation of spiritual consciousness. The scientific contribution of this research lies in the formulation of an emancipatory-transformative theological paradigm based on human existential experience, while also offering an integrative model between critical theology and humanistic–existential psychology that enriches the discourse of contemporary Islamic scholarship

Abstract

Education is one of the most fundamental elements in shaping human civilization, character, morality, and spiritual awareness. In the Islamic perspective, education is not merely a process of transferring knowledge and developing intellectual abilities, but also a means of cultivating ethical values, spirituality, and noble character based on Islamic teachings. However, the rapid development of modernization, globalization, and technological advancement has significantly transformed the orientation of contemporary education. Modern educational systems tend to emphasize rationality, scientific progress, material achievement, and economic productivity while gradually reducing the role of religion and spirituality in the learning process. This phenomenon is commonly referred to as the secularization of education. The secularization of education has contributed to the marginalization of Islamic values within educational institutions and social life. Islamic teachings are often treated only as complementary subjects rather than as fundamental principles guiding educational objectives and human development. As a consequence, many educational institutions prioritize academic success and professional competence over moral and spiritual formation. This condition has led to various social and moral crises among students, including the decline of ethical behavior, the spread of materialistic and individualistic lifestyles, and the weakening of Islamic identity among younger generations. This article aims to analyze the phenomenon of educational secularization and its implications for the marginalization of Islamic values in modern education. The study also seeks to identify the major factors contributing to this phenomenon and to explore possible solutions for integrating Islamic values into contemporary educational systems. This research employs a library research approach using descriptive and analytical methods. Data were collected from various academic sources, including books, scientific journals, previous research, and scholarly publications related to Islamic education, secularization, modernization, and globalization. The findings of this study reveal that the secularization of education is strongly influenced by the dominance of Western educational paradigms, the dichotomy between religious and secular sciences, and the rapid expansion of global culture through digital media and technology. These factors have weakened the implementation of Islamic values in educational practices and contributed to the emergence of moral degradation and spiritual emptiness among students. Furthermore, the study shows that Islamic education faces significant challenges in maintaining its identity and relevance in the modern era. Therefore, this article emphasizes the importance of reconstructing an integrated educational system that harmonizes scientific knowledge with Islamic moral and spiritual values. The integration of religion and science is considered essential to produce individuals who are intellectually competent, morally responsible, spiritually aware, and socially constructive. In conclusion, Islamic education must not only adapt to the demands of modernity but also preserve its ethical and spiritual foundations in order to contribute positively to the development of a balanced and civilized society.

Abstract

This article examines the development of Shi‘i political jurisprudence (fiqh siyasah) from its early emergence to its transformation in the modern era. The study highlights the historical roots of Shi‘i political thought, particularly its foundation in the doctrine of the Imamate, which distinguishes it from Sunni political theory. Using a qualitative literature-based approach, this research explores the evolution of Shi‘i political thought across the classical, medieval, and modern periods. The findings indicate that Shi‘i political jurisprudence has undergone significant transformation, particularly through the formulation of the doctrine of wilayat al-faqih, which integrates religious authority with modern state governance. Furthermore, this article compares Shi‘i and Sunni political jurisprudence, emphasizing differences in leadership legitimacy, authority structures, and adaptability to modern political systems. This study concludes that Shi‘i political jurisprudence demonstrates a dynamic capacity to adapt to contemporary political realities while maintaining its theological foundations.

Abstract

This article stems from the epistemological crisis in modern science, which tends to reduce transcendental values to an empirical-psychological framework, thus losing their ontological and axiological dimensions in human life. Although Abraham Maslow's thinking has shifted psychology's orientation from self-actualization to self-transcendence, contemporary studies indicate a research gap in the form of minimal conceptual integration between humanistic-existential psychology and the Sufi tradition, as well as the absence of an operational methodological model for applying transcendental values as a basis for social transformation. This article uses an I ntegrative theoretical approach between Maslow's humanistic-existential psychology and Sufi metaphysics, using qualitative research methods based on conceptual-philosophical analysis and critical hermeneutics of classical and contemporary texts. The main argument put forward is that transcendental values must be reconstructed as epistemic realities and existential practices that not only shape individual consciousness but also function as ethical energy in social transformation. This study offers a new framework, the Transcendental-Humanistic Sufism Framework, and the Experiential-Reflective Transcendental Praxis methodological model, which bridges spiritual experience, existential reflection, and social action. The article's scientific contribution lies in its effort to reposition transcendental values as the core of developing a humanistic and transformative science, opening new horizons for the integration of modern psychology and Sufism in a global scientific context.

Abstract

This article departs from a fundamental crisis in contemporary Islamic theology, characterized by a disconnect between normative-doctrinal constructs and transformative social practice. Although the discourses of Modern Theology, Liberation Theology, and Transformative Islamic Theology have developed, significant gaps remain in integrating the theological dimension with operational, practical approaches, particularly in the context of Islamic values-based social counseling. The primary research gap lies in the absence of a conceptual formulation that positions amar ma'ruf nahi munkar as a dialogical, emancipatory, and transformative counseling paradigm, rather than merely a prescriptive normative instrument. This article employs an integrative theoretical approach that combines the epistemology of revelation with critical social theory and prophetic ethics. The research method employed is qualitative-conceptual, using a literature review with critical and hermeneutic analysis. The article's primary argument is that reconstructing Islamic theology toward a prophetic-transformative counseling paradigm enables the transformation of the concept of amar ma'ruf nahi munkar into a social therapeutic process oriented toward critical awareness, empowerment, and structural change. This article's scholarly contribution lies in the development of a new paradigm of "Prophetic-Transformative Counseling Theology" that holistically integrates theological, psychosocial, and spiritual dimensions. Furthermore, this article offers a conceptual model that can serve as a foundation for the development of empirical research and community-based social intervention practices in contemporary Islamic studies.

Abstract

This article departs from the escalating reality of violence in contemporary society, which manifests not only in physical forms but also in structural, symbolic, and digital dimensions that operate systemically and are often legitimized within social practices, including religious discourses. Although the concept of non-violence has been widely discussed across disciplines, existing approaches remain largely normative and have yet to provide an operational framework that integrates theological, psychological, and social dimensions. The research gap lies in the absence of a conceptual formulation that reconstructs amar ma’ruf nahi munkar as a transformative method capable of addressing the problem of violence in a holistic manner. This study employs an integrative theoretical approach that combines prophetic theology, critical social theory, and counseling psychology. The research method is qualitative with a philosophical-critical orientation, utilizing hermeneutic analysis of religious texts alongside critical discourse analysis of contemporary academic literature. This approach enables a contextual reinterpretation of Islamic normative concepts while critically engaging with the surrounding social realities. The main argument of this article asserts that amar ma’ruf nahi munkar should be reconstructed as a Prophetic-Emancipatory Counseling paradigm—namely, a dialogical, reflective, and transformative process aimed at fostering critical consciousness at both individual and collective levels in order to transform structures of violence. This paradigm integrates divine values (prophetic dimension), emancipatory awareness (critical liberation), and dialogical practice (counseling) into a coherent and operational framework. The scientific contribution of this article lies in the development of a novel conceptual paradigm that bridges spirituality, psychology, and social theory in the pursuit of a non-violent society. The novelty of this study resides in the reinterpretation of amar ma’ruf nahi munkar as an emancipatory and applicable form of social counseling, making it relevant for addressing the complexities of violence in modern society.
