Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of interfaith and intercultural dialogue principles and the factors influencing their success in multicultural societies. Interfaith dialogue plays a crucial role in fostering mutual understanding, tolerance, and harmony amid diversity. This research employs a qualitative approach through literature review to explore the concepts, values, and practices of interfaith dialogue. The findings reveal that the success of dialogue is influenced by several key factors, including openness, equality, empathy, and an understanding of socio-cultural contexts. In addition, respecting differences and avoiding exclusive truth claims are essential in creating constructive dialogue. Therefore, interfaith and intercultural dialogue can serve as an effective strategy to strengthen social integration, prevent conflicts, and maintain stability and harmony in dynamic pluralistic societies

Abstract

Abstract

Contemporary Islamic constitutional law faces increasingly urgent pressure amid the acceleration of social, economic, and technological change, particularly in Indonesia which has the world's largest Muslim population with 86.9% of a total of 270 million people based on the 2020 BPS census, a demographic reality that renders Islamic constitutional law renewal not merely an academic discourse but an urgent practical necessity. This study aims to examine the dynamics of ijtihad in the development of contemporary Islamic constitutional law by addressing three main questions, namely the position of ijtihad as an instrument of Islamic constitutional law renewal, the methods of ijtihad used in formulating such renewal, and the contribution of ijtihad in driving Islamic constitutional law reform on a sustained basis. This study employs a normative legal research method with a library-based approach built upon three philosophical foundations, namely ontological which views Islamic constitutional law as a living and evolving normative system, epistemological which integrates the ushul fiqh approach with siyasah dusturiyah, and axiological which is oriented toward the value of public benefit as the highest goal of legal renewal. The findings affirm that ijtihad holds a position as a vital instrument that is both structural and functional in nature with constitutional legitimacy through Pancasila and Article 29 of the 1945 Constitution, operating through three primary methods namely maslahah mursalah, qiyas, and the maqasid al-shariah approach synergistically where maqasid al-shariah proves most relevant as it can reach the entire spectrum of modern constitutional issues, and contributing multidimensionally through the normative dimension that dismantles the rigidity of taqlid, the integrative dimension that reconciles sharia with the modern constitution, and the transformative dimension that converts religious values into binding public policy, as evidenced by the enactment of sharia-based legislation such as the Marriage Law, Religious Court Law, and Islamic Banking Law, while simultaneously reconciling divine sovereignty with popular sovereignty within the framework of a modern, democratic, and just constitution.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has fundamentally transformed the landscape of knowledge production, dissemination, and validation, including within the field of Islamic Studies. This transformation has given rise to a crisis of spiritual epistemology, characterized by the increasing fragmentation of the relationship among theology (kalām), Islamic philosophy (falsafah), and Sufism (taṣawwuf) as the three principal pillars of the Islamic intellectual tradition. At the same time, the dominance of the positivist paradigm in contemporary academic scholarship has increasingly marginalized revelation, intuition, and spiritual experience as legitimate sources of knowledge. Although research on AI in Islamic Studies has expanded significantly, it has predominantly focused on issues of ethics, Islamic law, education, and the digitalization of religious services. Existing studies have yet to adequately examine the implications of AI for the reconstruction of Islamic epistemology, nor have they proposed a conceptual model that integrates revelation, reason, spiritual experience, and artificial intelligence within a unified epistemic framework. Addressing this gap, this article adopts an integrative Islamic epistemological approach by synthesizing perspectives from theology, Islamic philosophy, Sufism, and the philosophy of technology. This study employs a qualitative conceptual library research design through a critical literature review, philosophical analysis, and conceptual synthesis of both classical and contemporary scholarship. The article argues that AI should be understood as an epistemic instrument that extends human cognitive capacities rather than as an epistemic authority capable of replacing revelation, reason, and spiritual experience. As its principal theoretical contribution, this study proposes the Integrated Spiritual Epistemology Framework (ISEF) as a new epistemological paradigm that reconstructs the relationship among revelation, reason, maʿrifah (spiritual knowledge), and artificial intelligence within the framework of contemporary Islamic knowledge. This framework is expected to enrich the theory of Islamic epistemology, strengthen the dialogue between Islamic Studies and the philosophy of technology, and open new avenues of research on the authority of religious knowledge in the age of artificial intelligence.

Abstract

The global environmental crisis has encouraged the development of environmental ethics rooted in religious and spiritual values. This study aims to reconstruct Syekh Nawawi Al-Bantani's eco-Sufism as a paradigm of Islamic environmental ethics through ontological, epistemological, and ethical analyses. The research employed a qualitative library research approach using the major works of Syekh Nawawi Al-Bantani as primary sources and relevant scholarly literature on eco-Sufism, Islamic eco-theology, and environmental ethics as secondary sources. Data were collected through documentation and analyzed using content analysis integrated with the philosophy of Islamic thought. The findings reveal that, ontologically, nature is regarded as God's creation and a manifestation of divine signs that must be preserved. Epistemologically, environmental awareness is constructed through the integration of the Qur'an, Hadith, reason, and spiritual experience. Ethically, the principles of khilāfah, amānah, mīzān, zuhd, qanā'ah, and iḥsān constitute the moral foundation for environmental stewardship. The novelty of this study lies in reconstructing Syekh Nawawi Al-Bantani's eco-Sufism into an integrated conceptual framework that contributes to the development of contemporary Islamic environmental ethics and enriches theological discourse on ecological sustainability.

Abstract

Technological developments in the digital era demand a transformation in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teaching methods to remain relevant, engaging, and applicable for students. This study aims to analyze the implementation of PAI learning strategies and design models in the digital era, focusing on Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) models. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a literature review approach (library research) by analyzing various scientific literatures related to educational technology and PAI learning methodologies. The results show that the integration of digital-based PjBL models (such as creating Islamic educational video projects, Islamic history infographics, or religious social campaigns on social media) can enhance students' creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills. Meanwhile, technology-assisted CTL models (such as contextual case studies through YouTube videos or digital discussion platforms) successfully bridge abstract religious materials with students' daily social realities. In conclusion, the combination of digital-based PjBL and CTL learning designs is proven effective in creating PAI learning that is not only student-centered but also meaningful, contextual, and adaptive to the times.
