Abstract

The post-truth era has given rise to new social pressures that exacerbate academic burnout among students through unrealistic productivity standards and social comparisons on social media. This study analyzes the hadith “Inn al-Dīna Yusrun” (HR. Bukhari No. 39) using the Ma’anil Hadith (hadith hermeneutics) approach to explore its relevance as a spiritual-psychological solution. Using a qualitative-library research method, this study applies three approaches: linguistic, socio-historical (asbabul wurud), and contemporary-psychological. The research results reveal three main findings. First, a linguistic analysis of the three key terms yusrun (ease as the essence of religion), yushādda (self-imposed pressure, equivalent to maladaptive perfectionism and overcommitment), and ghalabahu (the certainty of defeat, equivalent to burnout) forms a prophetic statement regarding the mechanisms of burnout. Second, an examination of the asbabul wurud reveals parallels between the Companions’ tendency toward excessive worship (ghuluw) and the academic pressures faced by today’s students. Third, from a hermeneutical perspective, this hadith holds multidimensional relevance: theological (legitimizing the rejection of absolute productivity), psychological (a framework for self-care), and sociocultural (a critique of “hustle culture” and the “post-truth” era). This study concludes that Islam provides spiritual legitimacy for resting and maintaining one’s limits as an implementation of the principles of yusrun and sunnatullah.
