Abstract

This article presents a comprehensive review of recent literature on consumer preferences for local brands, focusing on 34 empirical studies published between 2018 and 2022. The study identifies key factors influencing consumers’ decisions to favor local brands over global alternatives by employing a systematic literature review method. These factors include cultural identity, emotional connection, and economic considerations, with a particular emphasis on the role of brand management, social identity theory, and consumer behavior in shaping preferences. The review highlights variations in consumer preferences across different geographic and economic contexts, especially in emerging markets, and explores the competition between local and global brands. The findings offer valuable insights for both researchers and practitioners, shedding light on the complex drivers behind local brand preferences and providing guidance for enhancing market competitiveness. This review also underscores the importance of ethnocentrism, nationalism, and strategic brand management in fostering local brand loyalty. Future research directions are suggested to further explore these determinants and their implications in diverse settings.

Abstract

This study investigates how employee skills and workplace diversity influence customer satisfaction, brand awareness, and employee retention in Indonesian restaurants in Taiwan. Using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), the research explores the direct and indirect effects of these variables, with customer satisfaction acting as a crucial mediator. The findings highlight that employee skills significantly enhance customer satisfaction, which directly strengthens brand awareness and customer retention. Likewise, workplace diversity enriches customer experience, improving satisfaction and broadening brand reach. Notably, customer satisfaction mediates the relationships between employee skills, workplace diversity, and retention, underscoring its pivotal role in linking workforce dynamics to business outcomes. This paper contributes to Human Capital Theory and Social Exchange Theory, emphasizing the strategic value of developing employee skills and fostering workplace diversity. Practical implications suggest that restaurant owners should invest in training programs and inclusive workplace policies to enhance customer experience, build brand loyalty, and reduce employee turnover, ultimately driving business success.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of three key infrastructure variables—water facilities, home ownership, and educational infrastructure—on economic growth in East Java, Indonesia, from 2015 to 2018. Using panel data regression analysis, the study explores both short-term and long-term impacts of these variables on economic output, measured by GRDP at constant prices. The fixed effect model results indicate that water infrastructure positively and significantly influences economic growth, while educational infrastructure shows a positive but marginally significant effect. Conversely, home ownership infrastructure has a significant negative impact on GRDP. These findings suggest that while water and educational infrastructure are vital drivers of regional economic development, policies should address inefficiencies related to home ownership to ensure balanced growth. The study underscores the critical role of infrastructure investment in driving economic performance in developing regions

Abstract

This study explores the relationship between Supportive Psychological Climate (SPC), Competitive Psychological Climate (CPC), Job Attitude (JA), and Job Performance (JP) among sales employees in the French fashion industry. Using a sample of 259 respondents, this research investigates the direct effects of both SPC and CPC on JA and JP, while also examining the mediating role of JA between these psychological climates and performance outcomes. The findings reveal that SPC positively influences both JA and JP, while CPC does not significantly impact either variable. Furthermore, JA mediates the relationship between SPC and JP, but no such mediation is observed for CPC. These results highlight the importance of creating a supportive work environment to foster positive employee attitudes and improve performance. This study contributes to the growing literature on organizational climate by demonstrating how different types of psychological climates influence key job outcomes in a highly competitive industry.

Abstract

The hospitality and tourism industry is undergoing rapid transformation driven by technological advancements, evolving consumer behaviours, and external disruptions. This study investigates marketing innovations within the sector, with a particular emphasis on digital transformation, AI-driven personalisation, big data analytics, and emerging technologies such as blockchain and virtual reality. It further examines the impact of global crises, notably the COVID-19 pandemic, on marketing strategies, highlighting shifts in consumer engagement and business resilience. Employing a qualitative literature review, the study synthesises insights from peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings sourced from Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect. Through a narrative synthesis approach, key trends, challenges, and gaps in hospitality marketing research are identified. The findings suggest that although digitalisation and AI contribute to enhanced consumer engagement and improved business performance, significant challenges remain, including concerns around data privacy, resource limitations, and barriers to adoption. This study offers practical implications for businesses seeking to optimise marketing strategies and outlines avenues for future research. Notable limitations include a reliance on secondary data and the need for empirical validation of emerging trends.

Abstract

This study explores the Lom Tribe’s indigenous knowledge in disaster mitigation, emphasizing their early warning systems, sustainable land management, adaptive architecture, and spiritual beliefs. The findings reveal that the Lom Tribe relies on environmental cues such as bird migration, wind patterns, and water levels to predict natural disasters, while their sacred forest conservation and rotational farming techniques help prevent ecological degradation. Additionally, their stilt house architecture reduces flood risks, and spiritual rituals reinforce environmental responsibility and community resilience. Despite these effective strategies, challenges such as modernization, lack of formal documentation, and policy disconnects hinder integration with formal disaster risk management frameworks. This study contributes to the discourse on traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) and community-based disaster risk reduction (CBDRM), advocating for stronger collaboration between indigenous communities, researchers, and policymakers. Future research should explore comparative studies and policy frameworks to formalize indigenous disaster mitigation within national and regional governance systems.
