Abstract

This study is based on the development and evaluation of the Google Course-kit in teaching selected basic technology concepts in the Ilorin metropolis. The study adopted a design and development model type. The population consists of educational technology experts, computer science experts, and basic technology teachers, which were randomly selected to participate. The instrument for data collection was an adapted questionnaire. Descriptive and Inferential statistics were used to answer the research question and test the stated hypotheses with the aid of Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) version 20.0 at a 0.05 level of significance. The findings indicated that postgraduate students had a positive perception of the utilization and ease of use of mobile technologies for learning. No significant difference exists in the postgraduate students’ perception of the utilization of mobile technologies for learning based on gender and the field of study. The study concluded that the teaching aids or materials such as Google kits work as a powerful tool in and outside the four walls of the classroom and can be used to enhance the teaching of basic technology in Nigeria, more particularly, Ilorin metropolis. Google kit is appreciated by the teachers and they are ready to use it in the classroom to provide the opportunity for learners to visualize materials that are not readily available in the school and to show the actual meaning of the lesson content.

Abstract

The reading performance of Grade Seven Students at Palapas National High school is low as reflected in the Pre Reading-Assessment conducted last May 2019. 48 students out of 136 were considered under frustration level. This study focused on the effectiveness of remedial reading to the students with learning disabilities in reading at Palapas National High School. It aimed to promote positive discipline in developing a love for Reading used in the conduct of remedial reading. It covered 48 students from Grade Seven as the respondents. They were composed of 29 males and 19 females. The research investigated the reading level of the respondents and the significant difference after the intervention. This study is a pretest and posttest experimental design. The total enumeration method was utilized, where all the grade seven were measured individually in terms of their reading skills to determine who among them was categorized under nonreader, frustration level, instructional, and independent.  The findings indicated an increase from the results of the pretest to the posttest. The result of the posttest based on computed mean which is 30.1 as their reading level was found significantly higher than the pretest result which is 21.5. It is recommended that the conduct of remedial reading classes should be implemented consistently for the students to develop positive discipline in developing a love for reading, supported by varied instructional materials and appropriate teaching strategies.

Abstract

Virtual Classrooms (VCs) are digital platforms that create an atmosphere by integrating internet technologies in which instructors, students. Questionnaires were administered to 298 lecturers. Findings indicated that irrespective of gender, lecturers’ perceived proficiency towards the use of VCs do not vary, while lecturers’ perceived proficiency are influenced by their years of teaching experience with a statistical value of t (298) = 4.86, p = .000) in favor of less experienced lecturers’. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to see whether the use of youtube videos could have a good impact on the English literacy of junior high school students. Although several studies research the same thing, the main novelties in this study are that this study has a positive impact on the spirit of teaching English teachers, which is different from the research conducted by Handayani entitled Utilization of youtube During the Covid 19 Pandemic for Learning Media English in Improving Vocabulary and Student Understanding, in this study youtube was only focused on the positive impact felt by students and was not explained about the increase in teacher teaching enthusiasm. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method by observing, interviewing, and explaining facts, and studying the results contained in the research results. The results of this study indicate that the use of youtube during online learning has a positive impact and increases the English literacy skills of junior high school students. In conclusion, students' English literacy skills can be improved by utilizing youtube videos during online learning. The impact that is felt after using youtube during online learning is the increase in students' English literacy and the teachers are more enthusiastic during the online learning period.

Abstract

The purpose of this study: (i) determine the effect of blended learning on the students’ academic performance; (ii) determine the effect of gender on students’ performance taught using blended learning.  The study used a quasi-experimental method (30 students), employing a pre-test, post-test design. There are two sets of objective questions in the performance test. The Kuder-Richardson (KR-20) calculation provided a reliability coefficient of 0.75 for the multiple-choice test, while the Split-half reliability statistic yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.76 for the complete test replies.  Research questions were answered using the mean and standard deviation while paired sample t-test was used to test hypothesis 1 and independent sample t-test was used to test hypothesis 2.  The results of the study revealed a significant difference in the blended learning group's pretest and posttest performance (df=29; t=30.10; p0.05) in favor of the posttest performance. The performance of male and female students exposed to Blended learning did not differ significantly.  The study found that when students in institutes of education are exposed to blended learning teaching methodologies, their performance improves. This research has significant implications for educational technology teaching practices. It was suggested that professors in institutions of education be encouraged to use blended learning as an instructional technique.

Abstract

The competence of students in Indonesia is still in a low rank based on their problem-solving and reasoning abilities. The pandemic condition forces distance learning to hinder the improvement of students' abilities if there is no innovation in learning that can help students to always be motivated in learning. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using TikTok as a learning media innovation to train computational thinking skills, especially in the distance learning process. The research method uses a quantitative approach with the target of 9th-grade junior high school students. The results of the study showed that the post-test average of students was 89.3%, increasing 32.2% from the pre-test results which only reached 57.1%. This shows that short videos uploaded through TikTok can be an effective and innovative learning media.
