Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the Phenomenon-Based Approach (PBA) compared to the Traditional Approach (TA) in teaching mathematics to Senior High School students at Polonuling National High School, Philippines. Employing a quasi-experimental design, pre-tests and post-tests were administered to measure students' mathematical performance, particularly their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The pretest scores showed no significant difference between the two groups, indicating comparable initial proficiency levels. However, post-test results revealed a statistically significant improvement in the PBA group, highlighting the approach's effectiveness in enhancing conceptual understanding and academic achievement. Statistical analysis confirmed the superior impact of PBA on student learning outcomes. The findings support the integration of PBA into classroom instruction to foster real-world application of mathematics and strengthen 21st-century competencies. The study recommends curriculum enhancement, teacher training, and interdisciplinary collaboration to facilitate effective implementation of the Phenomenon-Based Approach in the Philippine educational context.

Abstract

This study focused on the students’ perceptions of music and its effect on their productivity by using the double-phase, sequential mixed methods approach. The study also aimed to undermine the greatly preferred genre, its influence on prompt academic submissions, its impact on efficient study sessions, its aid in progressive academic tasks, its enhancement on scholastic concentration, the students’ perceptions, and whether there is a significant relationship between the preferred genre and the productivity. Out of the genres given which were country, instrumental, pop, rhythm and blues, and rock, the students highly preferred pop to increase their productivity. The ratings on the effects of listening to music on the student’s productivity in terms of prompt academic submissions and progressive academic tasks have their highest verbal description of “agree” implying that music greatly aids in the completion of academic tasks or requirements. Efficient study sessions and enhanced scholastic concentration received its highest verbal description of “neutral”, meaning medium contribution to not divert their focus while studying. There was no significant relationship found between the preferred genre and the increase in productivity. Overall, the usage of music in the academic productivity of students resonates with music as a way of motivation.

Abstract

This study is to investigate factors that motivate academics to conduct research and research productivity in Lao public universities. A quantitative research method was employed with a self-completed questionnaire was used and distributed to 336 academics in Lao universities, with valid and useable 301 forms were used for the data analysis, 89.58% response rate. The results indicated that recognition, respect, and job tenure were prominently perceived as the most influential extrinsic factors motivating academics to conduct research, whereas scholarly improvement, contributions, and interest were mostly perceived as the most influential intrinsic factors. The results also indicated that research support, culture, faculty size, and social network were perceived as the most contributing factors to academics’ research productivity. This study suggests that incentive policies and support for academics should be created at different levels based on the actual needs. Teachers’ teaching workload should be reduced for more time in conducting research. The universities should see the importance of creating a better research culture, establishing a rewarding mechanism at the faculty level, allocating more research funds, improving research facilities, as well as extending research collaboration with other universities in the country.

Abstract

Psychological flexibility is essential for university students to adapt and succeed in developmental and academic challenges. This study examines the effectiveness of an Islamic guidance and counseling framework based on sufistic tadabbur alam (nature contemplation) in enhancing students’ psychological flexibility. A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed with nine fourth-semester students at Universitas Negeri Surabaya, selected through purposive sampling. The intervention included contemplative activities grounded in Sufi values and nature reflection, with a 60-item flexibility scale developed from the works of Al-Ghazali, Ibn Sina, and Ibn Arabi. Analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test revealed a significant increase in psychological flexibility across cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dimensions. These findings support the integration of spiritual and ecological elements into counseling models to foster resilience and self-awareness. This study contributes to Islamic educational psychology by offering a holistic and spiritually grounded approach to student well-being and personal development.

Abstract

The COVID-19 problem has the potential to change our planet and our global outlook. It could also inform us about how education needs to evolve to better prepare our young students for the future. For the time being, educators all across the world are debating the necessity to rethink how future generations will be educated. This could simply be a disruption that forces us to reconsider how we educate and ask ourselves what should be taught and what we should be preparing our students for. In the future decades, successful people will need to be able to recognize this interconnectedness and traverse across boundaries to leverage their uniqueness and collaborate globally. As educators struggle to find new ways to communicate with students outside of the classroom, now is a good opportunity to consider how these disruptive crises might help us define what learning should include. What adjustments would have to be made in school administrators' preparation if the focus of their training switched to assisting them in more consciously selecting the lenses that guided their school change efforts?

Abstract

This study investigates the availability and utilization of preschool play equipment. A descriptive survey research design was used. The population consists of 151 teachers, covering both private and public schools, according to the 2018/2019 Kwara Public Schools Census Report. The study sample was 108 preschool teachers from private and public schools in Ilorin West, Kwara State. A simple random sampling technique was used. Data collection was carried out using a research instrument entitled “Play Equipment Availability Checklist” (CAPE) and “Play Equipment Utilization Assessment Scale” (RUPE). The face and content validity of the instrument was determined by research supervisors and knowledgeable lecturers in the Department of Early Childhood Education and Basic Education. Restructuring and deletion of irrelevant items is done as necessary. Instrument reliability was determined by the test-retest method and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was used to compare the two sets of scores. Two hypotheses were tested at the 0.05 significance level. The findings show that school play equipment is available, while the utilization rate of preschool play equipment is very low. There were no significant differences in the availability or utilization of preschool play equipment by school type. Based on the research results, it is recommended that the government and the private sector provide play equipment to schools. In addition, the government should encourage the use of play equipment and ensure that teachers incorporate it into their teaching practice.

Abstract

This study examined the Effect of the Multimedia Instructional Approach (MIA) on the English writing performance of pre-service technical teachers in Southwestern Nigeria. The study adopted a quasi-experimental design of the pre-test post-test non-equivalent control group design to compare the performance of students who are exposed to MIA and those that are not. The population for this study consists of the college of education students located in the South-West geo-political zone of Nigeria. Four Colleges of Education were purposively sampled out of the 7 state-owned colleges of education from southwestern Nigeria.  The following research instruments were adopted for the study: English Writing Performance Tests (EWPT) set A; EWPT Set B; and Multimedia Instructional Software Package. The reliability coefficient of the instruments was calculated at a reliability coefficient of 0.82. Mean, standard deviation, and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) were used for data analyses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that MIA was effective for teaching English language writing and there is no significant difference between males and females in the English writing performance of the pre-service technical teachers taught through MIA. This study concluded that MIA for English writing is an important variable because it is better to predict students’ writing performance in the English Language than the conventional method of teaching.
