Abstract

As a remedy to the nearly shutting down of education owing to the spreading cases of COVID-19 all across the world, face-to-face classrooms where students could go to school were transitioned into online learning.  As a result, parents are forced to help their children throughout their online learning. This study aims to explore and reveal the various experiences of Senior High School parents during online learning, how the transition from face-to-face learning to online learning affected their daily lives, and how the parents handled these changes. This qualitative study applied the Phenomenological Research design. Moreover, to analyze the data gathered, Thematic Analysis was utilized. The participants of the study were residents of the province of Sultan Kudarat, and parents whose child is enrolled in Sultan Kudarat State University – Laboratory High School, the Philippines. The participants were chosen through the Random sampling technique specifically the lottery method. According to the responses, parents have no choice but to support their children morally despite the differences in schedules inside the household. It was revealed that their children’s online learning serves as a distraction because they are having trouble balancing their time between performing their work and assisting in their children’s online learning. Moreover, the parents’ thoughts regarding e-learning vary depending on their situations. On the other hand, parents still believe that pursuing education in this time of pandemic will help their children to continue absorbing knowledge.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to present an overview of the development of research on academic reading. Data were obtained from POP with Google Scholar database from 2014-2024. A total of 776 articles were examined. We evaluated this database using Vosviewer analysis and categorized the articles. The results show that the development of research related to academic reading has fluctuated over the last 10 years. From hundreds to tens and in 2023 and 2024 the number of articles is only in the single digits.  The most cited article was in 2014 with 330 citations.  Four clusters were found. Ten items make up cluster 1 (academic article, academic reading, academic reading comprehension, academic reading skill, development, metacognitive reading strategy, metacognitive strategy, paper, and reading strategy). Cluster 2 with 8 items (academic achievement, academic performance, academic success, habit, impact, performance, reading habit, relationship). Cluster 3 with 5 items (comprehension, effectiveness, narrative text, reading comprehension, and recount text), and five items make up cluster 4 (academic purpose, academic text, article, practice, and university).  We believe that this way will be more effective in summarizing various research results related to academic reading and will be useful in presenting comprehensive facts as an initial basis for conducting similar research.

Abstract

This study maps and analyzes inequalities in vocational field of expertise choices among Indonesian vocational school students by gender and region. The research employed descriptive quantitative methods, including the Chi-square Test, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Heatmaps, Decision Tree Classifiers, Lasso Regression, and Quartiles. The research data were vocational school data in 39 regions and vocational school students in 2023. Gender differences influenced the choice of area of expertise in vocational schools. There were areas of expertise in the male domain or the female domain. The region categorization did not influence the number of male and female students or the choice of field of expertise. These results were due to a gendered distribution across vocational fields arising from social norms and peer-composition signals rather than from a regional inequality context. This research is poised to significantly influence policies that promote equitable gender representation among students in vocational fields at vocational schools.

Abstract

The increasing popularity of online education has led to a significant shift in the way higher education is delivered. This study aims to explore the impact of online education on higher education by examining its benefits and challenges. A qualitative research approach was employed to collect data from instructors and students who have experienced online education. Semi-structured interviews were used to gather data, which was analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings of the study suggest that online education has a positive impact on higher education in terms of accessibility, flexibility, and convenience. Online education provides opportunities for students to access educational resources from anywhere at any time and at their own pace. It also allows students to balance their academic and personal commitments more effectively. However, challenges such as lack of social interaction, technical issues, and self-discipline were identified as barriers to effective online education. The study highlights the importance of designing online courses that promote interaction, engagement, and collaboration among students and between students and instructors. It also emphasizes the need for providing adequate support and training to instructors to ensure the effective delivery of online education. Overall, the study concludes that online education has the potential to enhance the quality of higher education by providing opportunities for lifelong learning and professional development.

Abstract

This study aims to explore global research trends on information technology integration in pragmatics studies through a bibliometric approach. Data were collected from the Scopus database over the past decade (2015–2024), resulting in 30 documents being analyzed. The analysis included document distribution based on publication type, institutional affiliation, author's country of origin, and keyword mapping using VOSviewer software. The analysis results show that most publications come from the United States, followed by the Russian Federation and the United Kingdom. The most productive institutions are RUDN University and Curtin University. The most dominant document type is scientific journal articles. Based on keyword co-occurrence analysis, three main clusters were identified: (1) technology integration approaches and processes, (2) evidence-based studies in educational and language contexts, and (3) communication applications and learning effectiveness. These findings provide a comprehensive overview of the research landscape in information technology integration in pragmatics and can serve as a strategic reference for academics and practitioners in designing more effective language learning innovations in the digital era.
