Abstract

Pronunciation plays a crucial role in effective English oral communication. However, vocational high school students in Islamic boarding school (pesantren) settings often struggle with pronunciation accuracy due to native language interference, limited classroom practice time, and high speaking anxiety. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using the AI-based ELSA Speak application in improving the English pronunciation accuracy of 10th grade students at SMK Islam Terpadu Marifa Tasikmalaya. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed in this study. The research involved 21 10th grade Computer and Network Engineering (TKJ) students selected through saturated sampling (N = 21). Data were collected using oral pronunciation tests administered before and after a five-meeting intervention, assessing both segmental features (vowels and consonants) and suprasegmental features (word stress and intonation). Content validity of the instrument was verified through Aiken’s V, and reliability of the instrument was verified through Cronbach Alpha and Cohen Kappa (Weighted Kappa). The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, a Paired Sample T-test, and Normalized Gain (N-Gain) analysis. The research results revealed a statistically significant increase in the mean pronunciation accuracy score from 57 on the pretest to 73 on the post-test (p < 0,001). The paired sample t-test demonstrated t(20) = -12,573 p < 0,001, leading to rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). Furthermore, the N-Gain score averaged 0,4047 (40,47%), indicating a moderate level of instructional effectiveness. These findings confirm that integrating ELSA Speak into structured classroom activities provides an effective AI-assisted learning environment that enhances phonetic awareness, reduces native language interference, and lowers foreign language anxiety.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of Digital Marketing (X1), Product Quality (X2), and Brand Image (X3) on Purchasing Decisions (Y) and their implications for Consumer Satisfaction (Z) at the Tokotoki Car Spare Parts Online Store on the Shopee Marketplace in the Greater Jakarta area. The research method used is a descriptive survey and an explanatory survey. The sampling technique used was purposive convenient sampling, and the research sample was 375 Tokotoki consumers in the Greater Jakarta area, with a sampling error of 5%. The analytical tool used in this study was the Structure Equity Model (SEM) LISREL analysis. The results of the study indicate that Digital Marketing (X1), Product Quality (X2), Brand Image (X3), Purchase Decision (Y), and Consumer Satisfaction (Z) are in the fairly good category. Simultaneously, the three independent variables have a significant effect on Purchase Decision (Y) of 84.36%. Partially, Product Quality (X2) has the largest influence, namely 47.33%, followed by Brand Image (X3) of 34.96%. Digital Marketing (X1) does not have a direct significant effect. Purchase Decision (Y) has a significant effect on Consumer Satisfaction (Z) of 80.24%. The conclusion of this study is that Product Quality (X2) is the dominant factor in forming Purchase Decision (Y) and Consumer Satisfaction (Z). And Digital Marketing (X1) cannot stand alone to change interactions into Purchase Decision (Y) unless done simultaneously, with the help of other variables such as Product Quality (X2) Brand Image (X3).

Abstract

Data was gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation as part of a qualitative research approach. One fourth-grade student with ASD participated in the study, which focused on language related to fruits and vegetables and lasted five sessions. Three primary strategies were used to apply the Look and Say Method: question-and-answer drills, repetition drills, and repetition by pointing, all of which were backed up with flashcards and actual objects. Results show that the approach successfully enhanced students' word recognition, pronunciation, and memorization skills in English. Instead of using written assessments for evaluation, quizzes, interactive questioning, and oral review were used, which allowed for precise comprehension measurement without putting the student under undue stress. The findings imply that the Look and Say Method is appropriate for kids with special needs, especially those with ASD, since it offers an organized, entertaining, and visually stimulating learning environment. In order to promote inclusive education, this study emphasizes the value of visual aids, repetition, and customized approaches.

Abstract

The aim of this research to investigate students' perceptions of using Wattpad as a medium for extensive reading at MTs. Yusufiah Jakarta. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive case study design. The participants were 12 eighth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. The data were collected through observations and semi-structured interviews and analysed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed that most students had positive perceptions of using Wattpad for extensive reading. They considered Wattpad an interesting reading platform because it offers various story genres that match their interests, which increased their motivation and interest in reading English texts. In addition, Wattpad helped students improve their vocabulary, understand sentence structures, and develop writing skills through exposure to different writing styles. Although some challenges were found, such as unfamiliar vocabulary and distractions caused by the wide selection of stories, the benefits outweighed the difficulties experienced by the students. In conclusion, Wattpad is an effective learning medium to support extensive reading activities and enhance students' reading interest. Therefore, Wattpad can be used as an alternative medium for English language learning, particularly in teaching reading.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of English pronunciation errors made by second-semester students of the English Education Study Program at Panca Sakti University Bekasi and to examine the differences between students’ pronunciation and that of native speakers using PRAAT software. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method. The participants consisted of ten second-semester students of the English Education Study Program at Panca Sakti University Bekasi during the even semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. The data were collected through a pronunciation test, observation, and documentation in the form of students’ voice recordings. The students were asked to pronounce ten English words: beat, sheep, leave, full, hat, man, let, back, safe, and fan. The recordings were analyzed using PRAAT software by examining waveform and spectrogram displays and comparing the students’ pronunciation with that of a native speaker. The findings show that out of 100 English word pronunciations produced by the students, 63 pronunciation errors were identified. The errors mainly involved vowel substitution and consonant substitution. Vowel substitutions included /iː/ → /ɪ/ in beat, sheep, and leave, /ʊ/ → /uː/ in full, and /æ/ → /e/, /ʌ/, or other vowel sounds in several words. Consonant substitutions included /v/ → /f/ in leave and /f/ → /v/ in safe, as well as changes in final consonants in several words. Substitution was the dominant type of pronunciation error, while addition and omission were not clearly identified in the analyzed data. The PRAAT analysis also revealed measurable differences between students’ pronunciation and the native speaker’s pronunciation through waveform, spectrogram, F1, and F2 values, particularly in words involving vowel and consonant substitutions. Therefore, the study concludes that second-semester students still experience difficulties in producing several English vowel and consonant sounds accurately, and PRAAT is useful for objectively identifying and describing pronunciation differences through acoustic analysis.
