Abstract

This study aims to determine the main factors causing forest encroachment that occurred in the Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK) Education and Training Forest of Sisimeni Sanam. The method used in this study is a non-probability sampling method for two groups of informants, namely general public and the officers of KHDTK Sisimeni Sanam. The sampling technique for general public used the snowball sampling method while for the officers used the purposive sampling method. Data were analyzed using Miles & Huberman model of data analysis which includes data reduction, data presentation and verification. The results showed that there are three dominant factors causing encroachment in KHDTK Sisimeni Sanam, they are economic factors, soil fertility factors and limited land area, and tenure conflict factors. The formulation of the solution to these encroachment problems is to increase cooperation and collaboration with the community in managing land in the area by increasing the number of Forest Farmer Groups (KTH), conducting regular and intense socialization to all community members living in and around the area, assistance and regulate land cropping patterns in the area, conducting complete and clear data collection on the people living in the area, giving appreciation to the people who guard and protect the area, increase the number of security officers or increase the number of community members as security guards in each area, optimizing land management with an agroforestry system, and making village regulations (PerDes) which regulate encroachment in each village

Abstract

Amphibians are an element of the ecosystem and part of the biodiversity that inhabits various habitats, thus becoming one of the groups of animal taxa commonly used as an indicator of environmental conditions. South Central Timor Regency has the potential as a natural habitat for amphibians because:has a temperature that ensures the growth and reproduction of amphibians. However, data on amphibian research is still very limited. This study aims to identify and identify diversity of amphibians of the order anura in the Bu'at-So'e Research Forest Area. The data collection method used in this study is a Visual Encounter Survey combined with a line transect. Data collection is done by making an observation path then repeated 3 times on each path. The data obtained were analyzed using the Shannon Wiener Index, species evenness, species richness, relative abundance, dominance and vegetation analysis. The results of the study found 134 individuals of amphibians consisting of 5 families and 7 species. The results showed that the species diversity index was in the medium category and the evenness, richness and dominance index were in the low category. This condition explains that, at the time the research was conducted, the habitat in the Bu'at-So'e Research Forest area was still guaranteeing the growth and reproduction of amphibians of the order Anura

Abstract

Abstract

Timor deer (Rusa timorensis) is a type of tropical deer originating from Java, which has a fairly wide distribution in Indonesia. Rusa Island is one of the areas in Alor Regency which has a fairly large forest area and can provide a source of food or animal needs so that it becomes a habitat for Timor deer. This study aims to determine the level of population density and distribution of the Timor deer (Rusa timorensis) in the Rusa Island Nature Park. The data collection method used in this research is the concentration count method. Observations were made at a point as a place for animal encounters, then along the observation point the number of deer individuals found was recorded with 2 times of observation, namely morning and afternoon. The data obtained were analyzed using the formula for density or abundance, sex ratio, analysis of vegetation and distribution. The results showed that the number of Timor deer population encounters at the Pulau Rusa TWA was 26 with 11 males and 15 females with a density of 1.17 tails/ha. In terms of sex ratio, the population structure of the deer shows that the ratio of male and female deer is balanced because there are more female deer than males. The distribution of Timor deer (Rusa timorensis) in the area is influenced by vegetation and TWA. Deer Island has a savanna habitat type and several types of plants that can be used as shelter.
