Abstract

Chemistry deals with the composition, properties, and uses of matter, the interaction between different matter, and the relationship between matter and energy. The utilization of Information and communication technologies in educational institutions globally has facilitated the streamlining of instructional processes, thereby fostering national stability and economic sustainability. This study investigated teachers’ utilization of ICT resources in teaching chemistry in senior secondary schools based on teachers’ gender, educational qualification, and teaching experience. The study was a descriptive research of a survey type. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 250 chemistry teachers from Kwara state, Nigeria. Five research questions were generated and answered using frequency count, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Three hypotheses were formulated and tested using t-test and ANOVA at 0.05 level of significance. The instrument for data collection is a researcher-designed questionnaire titled Questionnaire on Utilization of ICT Resources (QUICT). Findings revealed that the available ICT resources were rarely utilized among chemistry teachers while most of the chemistry teachers do not utilize ICT resources for teaching chemistry. The study concludes that teachers’ gender, educational qualification, and teaching experience significantly influence the level of utilization of ICT resources in teaching senior school chemistry. The study recommended that the Government should ensure adequate funding to provide ICT resources in senior secondary schools as contained in the national policy on education. Chemistry teachers should endeavor to attend seminars, conferences, and workshops to update themselves on global best practices on the utilization of Information and Communication Technology resources in teaching chemistry.

Abstract

The prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) underscored the importance of tailoring educational interventions to accommodate the diverse needs of autistic students in Nigeria. This study investigated the effectiveness of individual educational programs in meeting the needs of autistic students in Nigeria. The study surveyed autistic children, teachers, and parents in special schools in Ikeja, Apapa, and Kosofe Local Government Areas of Lagos State. It used a mixed-methods approach to evaluate the effectiveness of Individual Education Programs (IEPs) in addressing the unique needs of autistic students in mainstream educational settings. The study analyzed academic performance metrics and social skills proficiency in autistic students. It also explored the experiences of teachers, parents, and autistic students through interviews and focus groups. Despite challenges like lack of resources and collaboration issues, teachers shared success stories and strategies. Parents praised positive efforts between home and school, while autistic students expressed improved learning experiences. The synthesis of quantitative and qualitative data provided a holistic evaluation of IEPs' effectiveness in promoting positive outcomes for autistic students. The findings contribute to the discourse on inclusive education, informing practices to refine IEP design and implementation. The study emphasizes providing meaningful educational support tailored to the diverse needs of autistic students in mainstream settings.

Abstract

Parents' religious inclination has been reported as a major determinant of rearing children. The study examined religion and psychological well-being as determinants of male-child parenting in Kwara State, Nigeria. The research aims to investigate the influence of religion on male child parenting among married adults in Kwara Central and determine its contribution to this issue. Two corresponding research questions and hypotheses guide the study. A descriptive survey of correlation was used. The study was conducted among male-child parents in Kwara Central. The population under scrutiny in this research comprises all wedded adults in Kwara Central with a projected estimate of 965,000 (National Population Commission, 2018). The study involved 384 married adults with male children from three Local Government Areas in Kwara Central, selected using the Kredjcie and Morgan table, specifically from Ilorin West, Ilorin South, and Ilorin East LGAs. The research instrument was a self-designed “Religion as Determinants of Male Child Parenting Scale (RDMCPQ). Experts assessed The RDMCPQ for its content, construct, and content validity. Its reliability was established through pilot testing and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient Statistics (PPMS), with a reliability index of 0.86. The findings show that religion has no significant relationship with male child parenting (F.cal.=5.32, p>0.05). Based on the findings, religion only explains about 11.7% of male child parenting in Kwara Central. The study recommended that married adults emphasise religious practice, especially for their male children. This will assist in enhancing the moral development of the children.
