Abstract

Dengue fever (DHF) is still a major public health problem in tropical areas, including Indonesia, due to high morbidity rates and environmental factors that support mosquito breeding. This study aimed to analyze the role of health education in increasing awareness and behavior of dengue prevention in communities in remote areas in the working area of Puskesmas Kota Padang, Rejang Lebong Regency, Bengkulu Province. Using a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design, 90 respondents were purposively selected and assessed for changes in knowledge and behavior before and after the intervention. The intervention included health education on dengue prevention, with a focus on the 3M Plus method: drain, cover, recycle, and use larvicide. The results showed a significant increase in the proportion of respondents with good prevention behavior, increasing from 15.6% at pretest to 91.1% at posttest (p-value = 0.000). This indicates that health education significantly improved community knowledge and encouraged positive behavior change in dengue prevention. However, sustained community involvement and support from the government are required to sustain this improvement. These findings emphasize the importance of structured health education programs in reducing dengue transmission and suggest further research to explore long-term behavioral adherence and integration with public health policies

Abstract

Background. In the world of healthcare, healthcare workers play an important role in ensuring the quality of service for patients. One of the main challenges faced by healthcare workers is the shift work pattern implemented in hospitals to ensure 24-hour service. This study aims to further explore the relationship between shift work patterns and mental health of healthcare workers in hospitals, as well as identify mitigation measures that can be implemented to improve the well-being of health workers. Methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted among health workers who worked in hospitals with a shift work system. Data were analysed using the chi-square statistical test and logistic regression. Results. The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between the shift patterns and the mental health condition of the health worker. Health workers with irregular shift patterns had higher levels of high anxiety (66.7%), moderate depression (58.3%), and sleep disturbance (83.3%) compared to those working in regular shifts. The significant p value (0.05) indicates that shift patterns are statistically associated with mental health. Conclusions. Irregular shift work can negatively impact the health of health worker, including an increased risk of anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between lifestyle and the incidence of hypertension in health workers and provide evidence-based recommendations that can be used in efforts to prevent and manage hypertension among medical personnel. Methods. This cross-sectional study involved 200 health workers working in hospitals and health care centres, with samples selected using purposive sampling technique based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire covering aspects of lifestyle, such as diet, physical activity, smoking habits, alcohol consumption, stress levels, and sleep quality. The data were analysed statistically using the chi-square test and logistic regression. Results. The results showed that unhealthy diet was the main risk factor, with 70% of health workers with poor diet having hypertension. Smoking habit showed a very strong association with hypertension (p=0.000), with 80% of smokers identified as having this condition. A total of 85% of individuals who consumed alcohol had hypertension, and 80% had poor sleep quality, which was significantly associated with high workloads and unhealthy lifestyles. Conclusion. This study confirms that although health workers have a good understanding of the hypertension risk factors, excessive workloads, unhealthy lifestyle, and low sleep quality remain major obstacles in the prevention of the development and management of the disease.

Abstract

Type II Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic condition caused by impaired carbohydrate metabolism, which leads to insufficient insulin production. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of tailored nutritional interventions in improving the nutritional status and blood glucose control of patients. Using a descriptive design case study approach to explore the implementation of nutrition management in nursing care in type II diabetes mellitus patients with nutritional deficit problems. The study shows that that most respondents were between the ages of 51-60 years who were predominantly female indicating that lifestyle and hormonal factors may contribute to a higher risk of diabetes complications in women. Therefore, the importance of a comprehensive approach to nutrition management, tailored to the specific metabolic needs of patients, and underscores the important role of nurses in promoting integrated nutrition care.
