Abstract

To determine the effectiveness of nutrition education provided by Posyandu cadres in improving the nutritional knowledge of mothers of young children. Methods. The study was conducted in the working area of the Ambacang Community Health Centre, Padang City, West Sumatra, from March to May 2025. A structured questionnaire consisting of demographic data and 20 questions regarding basic knowledge of toddler nutrition (complementary feeding, balanced diet, and toddler feeding frequency) was used to collect data. The results of the paired t-test statistical test showed a significant difference in the average knowledge scores of mothers before and after education (p = 0.000). The univariate analysis in this study showed that most mothers under five had a low level of nutritional knowledge, which was 56%. Conclusions. This study confirms that nutrition education from Posyndu cadre plays a strategic role in improving nutritional literacy of mother of toddlers through a systematic and interactive educational approach. The practical implication of this study is that the results can be used as a basis for community health centres, health offices, and policy makers to strengthen cadre empowerment programmes as the spearhead of community nutrition education.

Abstract

Complete basic immunization is a key public health intervention to prevent infectious diseases in children. However, coverage remains suboptimal in parts of Indonesia, including Padang. One factor influencing this is family economic status, which can impact access, awareness, and compliance with immunization programs. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between family economic status and complete basic immunization coverage among children aged 12–24 months in the Ambacang Health Center working area, Padang. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional design was used. The sample included 50 mothers with children aged 12–23 months, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and immunization records, and analyzed using the Chi-square test. Results: Of the respondents, 58% came from low-income families, while 42% were from middle-to-upper economic backgrounds. The coverage of complete basic immunization was 66%. Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between family economic status and immunization coverage (p = 0.021). Children from higher-income families were more likely to be fully immunized. Implications: These findings underscore the need for public health programs to consider socioeconomic factors when planning interventions. Targeted education and improved access to immunization services are especially needed for low-income communities. Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between family economic status and complete basic immunization coverage, highlighting the importance of equity-based approaches in immunization programs.

Abstract

Complete basic immunization is a key preventive measure to reduce morbidity and mortality in toddlers from vaccine-preventable diseases (PD3I). However, coverage in several regions still falls short of national targets. Objective: This study aims to identify factors influencing the achievement of complete basic immunization among toddlers at Posyandu Balita RW III, Anduring Subdistrict, Padang City. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional design was used, involving 75 toddlers aged 12–23 months selected purposively. Data were collected through structured interviews with mothers and observation of child health (KIA) books. The chi-square test was used to analyze the relationship between independent variables (maternal knowledge, education, employment, family support, and access to health services) and immunization status. Results: There were significant associations between: Maternal knowledge (p=0.002), Maternal education (p=0.015), Family support (p=0.005), Access to health services (p=0.008) and complete basic immunization. However, maternal occupation did not show a significant relationship (p=0.234). Implications: The findings highlight the need for public health programs to prioritize maternal education, family involvement, and improved access to health facilities to increase immunization coverage. Conclusion: Maternal knowledge, education, family support, and access to health services are key factors influencing immunization success. These should be considered in planning and implementing effective immunization strategies.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health issue in Indonesia. Treatment adherence among TB patients is essential and influenced not only by medical conditions but also psychological, social, and environmental factors. This study aimed to identify factors affecting treatment adherence in TB patients at Dr. Yos Sudarso Hospital, Padang. A quantitative, cross-sectional design was used, involving 50 purposively selected patients. Data were collected through structured questionnaires covering demographics, TB knowledge, family support, patient-health worker relationships, drug side effects, and medication adherence levels. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were conducted to determine significant influencing factors. Results showed that most respondents (60%) were aged 26–45 years, had secondary education, and 70% adhered to treatment. Multivariate analysis revealed that good patient knowledge about TB (OR = 4.10; p = 0.018) and strong family support (OR = 3.25; p = 0.032) were significantly associated with better adherence. Drug side effects were noted as a key barrier to consistent medication use. In conclusion, TB treatment adherence at Dr. Yos Sudarso Hospital is shaped not only by individual patient factors but also by family support, treatment experiences, and interactions with healthcare providers. Improving adherence requires continuous, tailored education based on patient literacy levels, involving families as treatment companions, and effectively managing side effects.

Abstract

High consumption of fast food among adolescents is a serious concern because it has the potential to increase the risk of obesity. Lifestyle changes, lack of physical activity, and easy access to fast food exacerbate this situation. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to ascertain how fast food eating habits relate to the prevalence of adolescent obesity. Methods: The study employed a cross-sectional methodology and an analytical quantitative design.  75 teenagers between the ages of 15 and 18 who were chosen by purposive sampling at a single Padang City high school made up the sample.  Body mass index (BMI) measurements and questionnaires on dietary patterns were used to gather data. Results: The chi-square test analysis revealed a significant correlation (p < 0.05) between the incidence of obesity and the frequency of fast food consumption.  Teenagers who eat fast food three times a week are more likely to become obese than those who don't. Implications: the implication of this study is the need for educational interventions on healthy eating among adolescents, as well as the involvement of schools and families in controlling access to fast food. Conclusion: In conclusion, fast food consumption habits and obesity are significantly correlated, so prevention from school age is an important step in reducing the risk of long-term obesity.

Abstract

Stunting is one of the most common causes of death in children with a history of breastfeeding. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of stunting prevention efforts in children History of Breastfeeding. The systematic literature review (SLR) method was used to collect and analyse research findings related to risk factors, intervention effectiveness, and best practices. The SLR was conducted in the PubMed, ProQuest, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases from 2019 to 2023. Ten articles met all inclusion criteria and were analysed in depth. A combination of exclusive breastfeeding, maternal nutrition education, growth monitoring, complementary feeding, supplementation for pregnant women, and community empowerment approaches has been proven to be most effective in reducing stunting. There was a significant difference in pregnant women's efforts to prevent stunting before and after receiving information, and the average previous score increased to 72 after receiving the information. The findings of this study confirm that the effective of stunted prevention programmes is greatly influenced by the availability of adequate inputs (funding, human resources, anthropometric equipment) and optimal implementation processes (monitoring, education, cross-sector coordination).

Abstract

Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is a cornerstone global health target, reaffirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations' pledge to achieve it by 2030. Despite Indonesia's sustained national initiatives, structural barriers persist, including membership gaps, subnational disparities, and elevated out-of-pocket expenditures. This qualitative descriptive study investigates the SUCSES Innovation (Supporting Universal Health Coverage So Express and Sustainable)—a decentralized, village-level model designed to accelerate UHC progress. Conducted at the BPJS Kesehatan Bukittinggi Branch from January 2023 to December 2024, the research engaged purposively selected key informants: branch managers, local government officials, village leaders, and program implementers. Data collection encompassed in-depth interviews, reviews of policy/administrative documents, and membership record analyses. Thematic analysis identified governance mechanisms, implementation strategies, and outcome pathways, yielding four interconnected themes: (1) institutionalizing UHC targets via integration into village certification frameworks; (2) bolstering subnational governance and accountability; (3) enabling community micro-targeting through data-driven outreach; and (4) achieving quantifiable gains in coverage and financial performance. SUCSES implementation yielded ~135,000 new registrations, elevated coverage from 87% to 97%, generated IDR 68 billion in additional revenue, and transformed Agam Regency from zero to 50 certified UHC villages. These results position SUCSES as a scalable, context-adapted governance innovation for decentralized health systems. Recommendations urge wider institutional adoption and alignment of UHC indicators with local development plans to advance Indonesia's 2030 universal coverage ambition.
