Abstract

Work stress symptoms are a condition where there is a mismatch between a person's condition and work demands, resulting in mental (psychological), physical, and behavioral disorders. Government employees are among those who are vulnerable to experiencing work stress symptoms. Based on preliminary study results, the Probolinggo Regency Health Office is one of the type A offices with a high workload, and several employees have been found to experience symptoms of work stress. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of applying instrumental music-based progressive muscle relaxation techniques on work stress symptoms in employees at the Probolinggo Regency Health Office. The method used in this study was a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent control group design. A total of 50 samples were selected using the proportionate stratified random sampling technique. This study used the Short Version of the New Brief Job Stress Questionnaire (SV-NBJSQ) to measure work stress symptoms in employees. Data was analyzed using the McNemar test because the data were not normally distributed, as shown by the normality test result with a significance value of

Abstract

Health insurance is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Indonesian government. However, coverage among female workers aged 25–29 remains low with significant disparities across regions. This cross-sectional study aims to analyze access to health insurance among female workers aged 25–29 in Indonesia and identify factors contributing to these gaps. The study used secondary data from the 2017 Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (SDKI), involving 8,394 women who met the inclusion criteria, focusing on health insurance ownership status. Descriptive analysis was conducted to assess the distribution of coverage proportions across regions, with bias control performed through data selection and multi-layered validation of the 2017 IDHS data. The main variables included health insurance ownership and respondents' age. Among all respondents, only 30.50% had health insurance, while 69.50% lacked coverage. Higher coverage rates were observed in Aceh, West Java, and West Sulawesi. This study highlights the urgent need for more equitable health insurance distribution particularly in areas with limited access to healthcare coverage. Strengthening healthcare infrastructure, reinforcing health insurance policies, increasing public awareness, and optimizing the National Health Insurance Program (JKN) are essential steps to achieving comprehensive coverage.

Abstract

The high poverty rate in Indonesia can be addressed through the contribution of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), which absorb approximately 57.78% of the workforce in the informal sector. However, this sector faces risks of workplace accidents and occupational diseases that can impact workers' productivity and well-being. Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) account for 42% to 58% of all recorded occupational diseases globally. Preliminary observations identified symptoms of MSDs, such as neck stiffness and back pain, among furniture workers in the informal sector of Tunjungsekar. This study aims to determine the relationship between the risk levels of work posture and individual factors, including age, years of service, body mass index, education level, and physical activity, with MSD complaints among furniture workers. The methodology employed a cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach, involving 34 samples collected through total sampling techniques. The results indicated significant relationships between years of service (p=0.028) and education level (p=0.043) with MSD complaints, while the variables of work posture risk (p=0.437), age (p=0.644), body mass index (p=0.638), and physical activity (p=0.528) did not show significant associations. In conclusion, workers with over 10 years of service and low education levels are at a higher risk of experiencing MSD complaints. Keywords: musculoskeletal disorders, furniture workers, informal sector.

Abstract

Hospitals are required to provide health services under disaster conditions, serving as the front line to help survivors and patients. RSUD Balaraja of Tangerang Regency, the only Type B hospital owned by the Regency Government, is exposed to high potential disaster hazards, including floods, extreme waves, abrasions and tsunamis, as well as moderate risk of earthquakes. This study aims to analyse hospital management in disaster preparedness using a cross-sectional design with quantitative and qualitative approaches through Module 4 of the Hospital Safety Index and a phenomenological approach. The results showed that hospital management was rated as moderately safe in disaster preparedness, but other essential services were at high risk and required immediate improvement. The hospital's preparedness to protect patients and staff during and after disasters is still inadequate, particularly in terms of disaster management coordination, recovery planning and continuity of essential clinical services. Recommendations were made to improve disaster preparedness planning, procedures for agreements with external parties, sufficient budget and staff training. Keywords: disaster safe hospital, occupational safety and health, hospital, hospital management, management disaster.

Abstract

Physical activity is important because it has so many benefits. Even so, there are still many workers who are exposed to the risk of lack of physical activity. For this reason, it is necessary to know what affects the implementation of physical activity in workers. Quantitative design was used with a cross sectional study on 58 Cilegon Public Service Mall workers who met the criteria. As a result, 65.5% of workers are classified as active, 34.5% of workers are inactive and 12% of workers do not carry out any physical activity at all. Level of education (p value = 0.005), perceived benefits (P value = 0.01), friend support (p value = 0.014), body mass index (p value = 0.018), and family support (p value = 0.05) are the components that affect the implementation of physical activity in Cilegon Public Service Mall. Things that can be done to improve the implementation of physical activity include providing physical activity facilities, implementing group exercises, stretching instructions between work, and educating on physical activities. It is hoped that after conducting this research, the physical activity of Cilegon City Public Service Mall workers can be increased. Keywords: physical activities, lack of physical activities, Cilegon public service mall, office workers.

Abstract

Workers in oil and gas production units are at risk of exposure to chemical hazards. One of the ingredients in petroleum is volatile organic compounds (VOC), with examples of ingredients known for their toxicity being benzene, toluene and xylene. This study aims to assess health risks related to exposure to benzene, toluene and xylene of oil refinery workers at PT. X. This study will analyze personal exposure to inhalation routes from benzene, toluene and xylene chemicals using the Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA) method from the Department of Safety and Health, Malaysia. The study results showed that the risk level from benzene was very high, while the risk level from toluene and xylene was at a moderate level. The highest exposure to benzene, toluene and xylene is in distillation units. Based on the results of the study, appropriate controls are needed to overcome exposure to benzene, toluene and xylene. One of the controls that can be done is to improve the ventilation system and tighten the use of personal protective equipment. Keywords: refinery unit, health risk assessment, benzene, toluene, xylene.

Abstract

The International Labour Organization (ILO) reported in 2018 that 2.78 million workers die annually due to occupational accidents and work-related diseases. Approximately 2.4 million (86.3%) of these deaths are caused by work-related illnesses. Dust exposure in the work environment can lead to lung function disorders in workers. This study aims to analyze lung function disorders and their relationship with risk factors among workers in the Stockpile Area of Talang Duku Port, Jambi, in 2024. The research method is cross-sectional, with a sample of 38 workers using research instruments including spirometry, questionnaires, interviews, and observations. Results show that 84.2% of respondents experienced restrictive lung function disorders. There is a significant relationship between the use of PPE (masks) and lung function disorders (p=0.014), but no significant relationship was found with other risk factors. The majority of respondents had attended training (89.5%), had good knowledge (86.8%), normal nutritional status (55.3%), and were active smokers (71.1%). Only 13.2% of respondents always used masks. It is concluded that consistent use of PPE plays an important role in preventing lung function disorders. Efforts are needed to increase awareness and compliance with PPE use, as well as the implementation of a comprehensive occupational health program. Keywords: lung function disorders, stockpile area, PPE, occupational health.
