Abstract

The training on the use of a web-based library information system at SMP Negeri 1 Klambu is a community service activity aimed at improving the effectiveness of book borrowing and returning services within the school. Previously, the management of book data, members, and transactions was conducted manually, often leading to recording delays, data loss, and reporting difficulties. Through this training, the team introduced a web-based information system designed to help librarians manage data in an integrated, fast, and accurate manner. The method includes initial observation of library conditions, development of a web-based system with core features for book, member, and transaction management, and direct training sessions for library staff and teachers. The results indicated an improvement in the efficiency and orderliness of borrowing and returning services, allowing for faster transactions and better documentation. This program not only enhanced the technological capability of the library staff but also fostered a culture of digital transformation within the school environment. Therefore, the activity provides a valuable contribution to improving educational service quality at SMP Negeri 1 Klambu.

Abstract

Anemia among adolescent girls remains a significant public health problem that affects physical development, cognitive performance, and academic productivity. Limited nutritional knowledge and the underutilization of locally available nutrient-rich foods contribute to the high prevalence of anemia in this population. This community service program aimed to improve students’ knowledge of anemia prevention through interactive nutrition education and a hands-on demonstration of katuk leaf pudding preparation, a local food rich in iron. The implementation consisted of participatory planning, educational lectures, cooking demonstrations, and evaluation of students’ knowledge using pre-test and post-test assessments involving 85 participants. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, normality testing, and paired t-test. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ knowledge after the intervention. The mean knowledge score increased from 9.81 in the pre-test to 15.62 in the post-test. These findings demonstrate that practical, hands-on nutrition education through katuk leaf pudding preparation is highly effective in enhancing students’ understanding of anemia prevention and in promoting the use of local nutritious foods within the school community.

Abstract

The development of a polyculture system combining giant freshwater prawns (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) and tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) offers an opportunity to increase productivity and local food security by optimizing land and water resource use. This study analyzed the weight and length growth data of giant freshwater prawns (weeks 1–4) and tilapia (weeks 1–6) cultivated in a polyculture system in Tenjolaya Village, Sukabumi Regency. The results showed a positive growth trend for both commodities: giant freshwater prawns increased in average weight from 0.00 g (week 1) to 0.13 g (week 4) and length from 0.98 cm → 1.74 cm; tilapia increased in average weight from 16.90 g (week 1) to 49.97 g (week 6) and length from 7.90 to 15.68 cm. The discussion assesses the technical feasibility of polyculture, its implications for feed efficiency and disease, and its contribution to local food security. Recommendations include stocking density management, water quality management, feed management, and adoption schemes for local farmers. This study confirms that shrimp–tilapia polyculture is a promising technical strategy for improving integrated fisheries production and village food security.

Abstract

Fertilizer is a vital component in supporting agricultural productivity; however, low soil fertility and farmers’ dependence on synthetic chemical fertilizers have long-term negative impacts on soil health, the environment, and overall productivity. Therefore, an environmentally friendly and sustainable fertilizer innovation is required. Polychar Plus Granule fertilizer was developed as an alternative based on biochar enriched with macro- and micronutrients, and formulated in granule form for more practical application. Biochar functions as a soil conditioner that improves cation exchange capacity (CEC), maintains soil moisture, and supports the growth of beneficial soil microorganisms. The addition of organic materials and minerals (N, P, and K) enables this fertilizer to not only improve soil structure but also supply plants with balanced nutrition. This community service activity was carried out through training, demonstration of fertilizer formulation, and field mentoring at the partner farm Tefa Rintisan Rumah Organik. The main objectives were to: (a) enhance sustainable soil fertility, (b) reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers, (c) provide appropriate technology based on local resources (activated charcoal, organic waste, rice husk ash, etc.), and (d) increase production economically. The expected outputs include publication in an ISBN-proceeding at the National Seminar on Research and Community Service (NaCosVi) Politeknik Negeri Jember 2025, activity videos uploaded to the P3M Politeknik Negeri Jember YouTube channel, coverage in the Radar Jember online media, and an article published in an accredited community service journal. It is expected that Polychar Plus fertilizer technology can be independently adopted by farmers as an alternative solution to support sustainable agricultural systems.

Abstract

This community service program aims to increase financial literacy and awareness of sharia savings among the people of Tiganderket Village, Karo Regency, North Sumatra through the Islamic Smart Financial Education initiative. This activity was motivated by the low level of understanding of Islamic finance in rural areas, the strong dependence on conventional financial systems, and the growing practice of interest-based lending that is not aligned with Islamic principles. The program applied the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach to encourage active participation of the community in learning processes through interactive lectures, discussions, and evaluation of knowledge before and after the activity. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ understanding of sharia savings, which increased from 35% to 90% after the activity. Furthermore, around 60% of participants expressed interest in opening an account at an Islamic financial institution following the education session. The presence of Islamic banking representatives during the program also strengthened the connection between the community and sharia financial service providers. These findings indicate that participatory and communicative Islamic financial education is effective in improving sharia financial literacy in rural communities and may serve as a sustainable empowerment model for strengthening Islamic economic practices in Indonesia.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve environmental literacy in early childhood through the practice of making organic fertilizer from eggshells at Syahida Islamic Kindergarten in Jember. Jember Regency has a high poultry egg production, resulting in large quantities of eggshell waste that has the potential to pollute the environment if not utilized. This waste contains calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) which is beneficial for plants, so it has the potential to be processed into organic fertilizer. Activities are carried out through an organic approach experiential learning. This activity directly involved children in the washing, drying, pounding, and application of eggshell powder to plants. The results demonstrated an increased understanding of organic waste sorting, recycling concepts, and the use of eggshells as fertilizer. Teachers also gained new insights into creative and easily implemented environmental-based learning methods. Overall, this activity was effective in fostering environmental awareness from an early age while supporting locally-based organic waste management.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to help students better understand communication ethics and reduce the risk of bullying and cyberbullying through a socialization program titled “Typing Wisely, Speaking Politely: Communication Ethics for a Bullying-Free Student Environment at SMA Negeri 1 Cepogo.” The rationale behind this activity is the students’ improper use of digital media and their tendency to communicate disrespectfully such as mocking others, sharing photos without permission, and excessive joking which can lead to bullying. The method used is a combination of qualitative descriptive data and quantitative data from pre-test and post-test results. The activity involved delivering material, interactive discussions, case simulations, short interviews, and comprehension evaluations. The results showed a significant improvement in students' understanding, as indicated by the pre-test score of 80% increasing to 100% in the post-test. Students also demonstrated behavioral changes, such as becoming more aware of the limits of joking, respecting privacy, and understanding the legal risks of digital communication. This activity shows that school-based education can be an effective way to build a culture of ethical, empathetic, and bullying-free communication. These findings highlight the importance of continuous digital literacy programs to foster a safe and harmonious school environment.
