Abstract

This community service program was conducted to enhance the competencies of elementary school teachers in utilizing the innovative teaching aid Digital Image Creator for Optical Microscope (DIGICOM) to strengthen science learning. The program was motivated by the limited availability of digital microscopes in schools and the low ability of teachers to adapt optical learning technologies. The main objective was to train teachers from the Imam Bonjol Teacher Working Group (KKG) in Banjarnegara Regency to modify conventional optical microscopes into digital microscopes integrated with imaging systems. The training was carried out online through a series of activities including lectures, discussions, camera adapter design workshops, DIGICOM implementation, and mentoring with follow-up evaluations. A total of 51 teachers actively participated in the practice sessions and group projects. The results showed a significant improvement in teachers’ conceptual understanding, technical skills, and motivation to implement DIGICOM in science learning. More than 85% of participants were able to operate the modified tool successfully and apply it in their schools. These findings demonstrate that the implementation of DIGICOM is an effective educational innovation to improve the quality of science learning in elementary schools and strengthen teachers’ digital literacy in science education.

Abstract

Based on communication with one of the teachers at SMA N 1 Cepiring, information was obtained that the teachers needed updated information regarding the implementation of Class Action Research (CAR) and wrote down the results in scientific articles. Most teachers still experience difficulties in writing scientific articles which in turn have an impact on hampering the career paths and ranks of teachers. The low percentage of publication of teacher's scientific work is partly due to the fact that teachers still do not know the procedures for writing scientific papers according to academic standards. In line with these matters, this community service activity aims to provide information about CAR and scientific article writing. The method used in this activity is in the form of training and technical guidance with material covering CAR reviews, tips for writing CAR-based articles, how to access journal websites, mentoring activities in writing articles, and guidelines for submitting articles to scientific journals/magazines. After participating in this activity, teachers' motivation in professional competence and self-development in academic qualifications, especially problems in CAR up to publication can increase.

Abstract

The large amount of leaf litter in the partner environment of SMP Negeri 24 Semarang City as one of the prospective Adiwiyata schools will in the long term become a problem that requires more innovative and scientific solutions and handling. On the other hand, the problem of increasing wood utilization requires a more serious solution. The solution offered by the implementing team to this problem is through processing leaf waste into composite material which is expected to be a substitute for wood which can be applied as a sound absorber in the partner environment of SMP Negeri 24 Semarang. Leaf waste and silica together with polyurethane (PU) polymer are molded at a certain pressure and temperature for a certain time to obtain a material with the most optimum mechanical strength. This activity has been carried out well, the partners involved (in this case students and teachers) have succeeded in making composites from leaf waste which is abundant in the school environment. This composite will later be applied as a damper in one of the rooms at SMP 24 Semarang.

Abstract

Elementary school teachers in Gunungpati District, Semarang, still experience difficulties in: (1) implementing learning that can prepare students to face the minimum competency assessment (AKM), (2) compiling instruments that can be used to train students to face AKM, namely literacy and numeracy. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out training activities for teachers in the KKG, in order to prepare them to familiarize their students with knowing and taking literacy and numeracy tests. The aim of this service activity is to provide training for teachers through KKG activities with a facilitation-based Action Learning model. The specific aim is to assist elementary school teachers in improving their pedagogical competence in the areas of learning and evaluation. The problem solving method that has been agreed upon by partners is the implementation of programmed training. The solution method design refers to the facilitation-based Action Learning model. Action learning is defined as a process in which a group of people come together regularly, help each other to learn, and share experiences. This training requires a tutor who acts as a facilitator, and continues with the mentoring phase. Before carrying out the training, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was held with several elementary school principals and the head of the Dewi Kunthi KKG, Gunungpati District, Semarang. The results of the FGD are used to design training scenarios for each activity and training materials. The success of the training was marked by the increasing ability of teachers in designing science and science lessons and preparing AKM questions, namely literacy and numeracy.

Abstract

The essential 21st-century skills, including collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking, are valuable when combined with computational thinking (CT) skills. Teachers at Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur (SIKL) need to be capable of implementing CT in their teaching. Since CT is relatively new to the learning environment at SIKL, the implementation of CT in science education needs to be strengthened, particularly for science teachers at SIKL. The issue to be addressed is empowering teachers to implement CT in science teaching at SIKL. The partner’s problem-solving method is based on a facilitation-based Action Learning model. This facilitation-based action learning is divided into three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The activities include programmed workshops and discussions to understand CT, its importance as a fundamental skill across subjects in today’s and future digital era, and the need for SIKL teachers to acquire foundational CT skills. In addition to workshops and discussions, support was provided in the form of workshops for practicing CT integration and evaluating it within science education. This activity involved 30 SIKL teachers from various levels and subject areas. Before the training, only 45% of participants understood CT concepts, and only a few had applied CT, but afterward, 80% of teachers were able to integrate CT into their teaching. Intensive support in planning, implementing, and evaluating CT-based learning had a significant positive impact. Despite challenges due to the participants' diverse educational backgrounds, the facilitation-based Action Learning method proved effective in addressing these differences and enhancing active participation. This initiative is expected to serve as a starting point for broader CT implementation within SIKL.

Abstract

There are three main elements of activities assessed in assigning credit points to teachers. First is education, second is learning and third is continuous professional development. Education and learning are activities that are usually carried out by a teacher. However, not many teachers are still doing sustainable professional development. One of them is in scientific publications. For this reason, a service was carried out regarding training in writing scientific papers to increase the acquisition of credit scores for Banjarnegara Regency MGMP Science teachers. The training methods applied include planning, implementing training and mentoring and monitoring. Based on the service carried out, it was found that the length of time teaching did not show a positive relationship with writing ability and quantity of publications. Through this service, teachers already have the motivation to start writing even though there have been no published results from this service activity.

Abstract

Climate change and environmental degradation pose serious threats to ecosystem sustainability, particularly in forest-village areas that are vulnerable to ecological disasters. Peron Village is one such forest village with potential commodities such as coffee, aren, rubber, and avocado. However, it also faces the risks of landslides and negative interactions with wild animals. To address these challenges, the PPK Ormawa HIMA IPA dan Lingkungan UNNES, implemented the Agrosiaga Program, which was designed through a Training of Trainer (ToT) approach combined with conservation planting activities. The program included biodiversity education, wildlife handling training, and the planting of tabebuya and avocado seedlings as buffer plants on sloping areas. The results indicated an improvement in community knowledge and awareness of environmental conservation, along with a paradigm shift in perceiving wildlife that was previously considered a threat. Therefore, the Agrosiaga  can be regarded as a model of forest-village empowerment that integrates ecological, social, and economic aspects in a synergistic manner and has the potential to be replicated in other villages facing similar challenges.
