Abstract

Counseling is a professional activity involving the relationship between a counselor with an individual or a group of individuals. Like an interpersonal relationship in general, in the process of counseling occurs the process of interaction and communication between individuals with other individuals (counselors-counselee). Mastery of communication skills is a basic prerequisite for counselors to be able to use various counseling skills effectively and efficiently. It should be understood that almost all of the counseling skills involve the counselor’s communication skills. A good understanding of communication skills should be based on an in-depth study and understanding of communication philosophy. Mastery of communication skills will facilitate the counselor in using various counseling skills that have been formulated by experts as assets to provide successful assistance services for the counselee.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of cognitive behavior therapy counseling group in reducing vocational high school student’s doubts in making career decision. The research design uses pretest-posttest control group design. There are two types of instruments used, that is treatment materials and measuring instruments. The treatment instrument consisted of a manual cognitive behavior group counseling guide for the counselor, while the measuring instrument consist a scale of career decision making that had validity R values above 0.320 and reliability of 0.855 and student’s self-reflection sheets. Data analysis using Two-Independent-Sample Test-Mann-Whitney U. Statistical analysis show that the value of zcount> ztable is -3,315 then H0 is rejected. This is show that cognitive behavioral therapy group counseling is effective to reduce vocational high school student’s doubts in making career decision.

Abstract

This is an experimental study which describes the effectiveness of group counseling treatment in increasing student’s confidence. The subject of this study is IX grade students of Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 1 Paciran, Lamongan, East Java. The subject which can be said as sample of the study were collected using purposive sampling. They were divided into two groups namely experiment group and control group. Both group was given different treatment and the result of those treatments were examined using Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. The result shows that group counseling treatment can improve student’s confidence.

Abstract

Nowadays a lot of counselor labeling their counselee which caused counselor’s lack of multicultural insights. Labeling may have a poor impact on the counselor’s decision in selecting counseling intervention strategies. The multicultural insights of counselors must be enhanced by building an ideal character in themselves. This ideal character is concerned with the understanding and behavior of counselors to respond the condition of heterogeneous counselees and how high the curiosity, interest and motivation of counselors to constantly add multicultural insights that they have. The noble values contained within Semar can be attributed to how the ideal character of multicultural counselors. This study aims to explain the ideal character of multicultural counselor taken from the noble value of Semar as well as linking the character with multicultural competence of counselor. This research uses qualitative approach of library research type. The ideal characteristics of multicultural counselors that can be formulated include: (1) religious; (2) neutral; (3) tolerance; (4) sincere; (5) discipline; (6) social care; (7) friendly; (8) fair; (9) honest; (10) supple; (11) democratic; and (12) curiosity.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the condition of teenage girl’s self-confidence and body image and to identify the relationship between teenage girl's body image with self confidence. This descriptive and correlation study using 77 teenage girls as sample. Sampling technique used stratified random sampling technique. The research used instrument Zila & Ifdil Kepercayaan Diri Inventori and Zila & Ifdil Body Images Inventory. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis technique and correlational analysis. The findings reveal that teenager girl's self confidence is generally in the medium category, teenage girl's body image is generally in the neutral category, and there is a significant relationship between teenage girl's body image and their self confidence. Teenage girl’s body images and their self confidence are important to be increased and developed by counselor, for their better life towards Indonesian golden generation.

Abstract

School Counselor or Counselor have to perform professional guidance and counseling services, such as developing guidance and counseling materials from various sources including international, national, and local sources. The purpose of this study is to obtain the guidance and counseling materials contained in the Serat Wedhatama which contains the teachings about morals and virtuous as a source of local teaching. This qualitative research using ethnographic model and explorative content analysis procedures, with a content analysis procedure. Results show that the teachings contained inside Serat Wedhatama are the values and teachings of virtuous morals that can be used as guidance and counseling materials, and can be packaged in the composition of information services and library display.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the junior high school students with Samin cultural background’s meaning of life of that comes from: creative values, experiential values and attitudinal values. This study follows the steps of survey types in a descriptive quantitative approach. The instruments used are developed in inventory. Data were analyzed by using descriptive analysis technique and SPSS 20.0 for Windows in order to determine the frequency, percentage, standard deviation, skewness. Results show that junior high school students with Samin cultural background was able to find the meaning of life through three sources of value, which experiential values reach the highest percentage (45%) followed by attitudinal value (29%), and the creative value (26%). In particular, these results illustrate that the fulfillment of meaning of life of junior high school students with a cultural background of Samin is in accordance with the Samin culture which prioritizes appreciation of the values of life before acting and responding to something.

Abstract

In order to have a clear career direction and career goals, vocational high school students have to think rationally. They need a strategy to realize the desired career dream. This study focuses on how the implementation of career guidance and counseling as well as analysis of Strength Weakness Opportunity Threat (SWOT) on the implementation of career guidance and counseling and strategies undertaken by Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Syuhada Banjarmasin. The research method used is case study with data mining technique through observation, interview and documentation. The participants were 32 students, two school counselor, one headmaster and one deputy headmaster. The results show that: (1) the implementation of career guidance and counseling in Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Syuhada Banjarmasin is very supportive for a quality career; (2) SWOT analysis is helpful in conducting quality career guidance and counseling services; (3) school counselor’s strategies are effective and efficient. Suggestions aimed at school counselor in order to compile and implement programs based on SWOT analysis, so they can implement a quality career guidance and counseling service.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of self-instruction techniques to improve student’s oral communication skills in the learning process. This study was an experimental study using a single case experimental with A-B designs. The subject was three students from tenth grade senior high school which had a problem with their oral communication during the learning process. Oral communication skills data were collected using Oral Communication Skills Observational Instruments. Data analysis techniques used were statistical analysis with percentage technique, and split-middle technique also clinical analysis technique which declared by significant other. The results show that after carrying out the self-instruction, subject’s oral communicating skills in the classroom learning process increases.
