Abstract

The particular study aimed to know the utilization of media in guidance and counseling service provided by school counselor. Quantitative approach was used in the study. The research instrument was questionnaire with five alternative answers, such: very often; often; rare; sometime; and never. The result of the study showed the use of media in guidance and counseling service by school counselor ranging from visual media, electronic media; audio visual media; computer media.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of group counseling with cognitive behavior therapy approach using passive music therapy technique to reduce the academic anxiety of students who is writing thesis. The research used quasi-experimental design (pretest, posttest, and follow-up). Group counseling was conducted for five meetings, and follow-up was performed two weeks after the treatment. Research subjects were seven students. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the subjects, that is based on inclusion criteria and level of academic anxiety which is obtained from academic anxiety scale (rxy = 0.536-0.823, coefficient alpha = 0.963). The results showed that group counseling with cognitive behavior therapy approach using passive music therapy technique was significantly effective to reduce the students’ academic anxiety in pretest vs. posttest and pretest vs follow-up, but in posttest vs. follow-up there was a slight increase in academic anxiety. Passive music therapy which is integrated into group counseling with cognitive behavior counseling approach, it is not only able to solve the individual problems but also able to help individuals to analyze their thoughts and behaviors through passive music activities with guided imagery.

Abstract

In recent year, there is a number of news in the mass media on violence in the school, including bullying. The high number of juvenile delinquency is the result of a lack of ability to control emotions in an acceptable way, causing the individual to easily engage the group's influence to perform negative behavior, including bullying behavior. From the above explanation, we interested to examine more deeply how the emotional maturity in adolescents bully in Junior High School 9 Banda Aceh. This study was done through quantitave method by using using the Emotional Maturity scale developed by Katkovsky and Gorlow. The results showed that most of the students had emotional maturity belonging to the low category with the percentage of 80.65%. To that end, parents and teachers have a very important role, in which they must be consistent in educating, being open and dialogical, not authoritarian, or imposing a will to the adolescents.

Abstract

In general, the particular research and development aimed to produce modules for students and guidebook modules for counselor which is acceptable both theoretically and practically. The acceptability is assessed in the terms of format or design, as well as the material content and practice. The developmental procedures adapted from Borg and Gall model, namely: (1) stage I preliminary study and planning, (2) stage II product development, (3) stage III product trial, (4) stage IV product revision, and (5) final product. The product was a Self-Assessment Training Module as a Career Stage Planning of Students in Senior High School and its guidebook. The results of product trials showed that the developed product had a “very good” acceptability score. In conclusion, the product is accepted both theoretically and practically. The acceptability of the product give implications that the using of Self-Assessment Training Module can help the students to recognize, assess, and understand themselves, and then they can plan their careers appropriately. The module can help the school counselor to guide students in self-assessment as the initial stage of career planning.

Abstract

This research and development aims to produce a cybercounseling reality website and a reality cybercounseling guidebook to improve self-disclosure for Vocational High School students which are grateful theoretically and practically. The research and development study steps are: preliminary study, product development, and product test. Product’s guidelines are tested using one group pretest-posttest design. Product test results show that cybercounseling reality website is gratefully theoretically and practically and also effectively to improve Vocational High School students’ self-disclosure.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a training guide of empathy attitude skills as prevention of bullying behavior on junior high school students. The method was a research and development model. The subjects of the research were guidance and counseling experts; educational technology expert; and school counselors. The instrument was the empathy attitude skill scale for students; expert assessment instruments and counselor assessment instruments. Data from the assessment results of guidance and counseling expert; educational technology expert; and three school counselors in three different schools in Malang City showed that the developed products were acceptable and feasible to be used to improve empathy skills as prevention of bullying behavior of junior high school students.

Abstract

The research aimed at identifying the relation between mindfulness and life satisfaction among guidance and counseling students. The research was a correlational study using Kendall’s Tau-b correlation analysis technique. The respondents were 135 students from the Guidance and Counseling Study Program, Faculty of Teachers Training and Education, Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana. The data were gathered using the mindfulness scale and the life satisfaction scale. The results of the research showed that there had been positive and significant relationship between mindfulness and life satisfaction among the students of Guidance and Counseling Study Program, Faculty of Teachers Training and Education, Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana with the correlation coefficient rxy = 0.172 and p 0.007 (p < 0.01). The higher mindfulness score, the higher satisfaction score of life, and vice versa.

Abstract

The study aims at measuring the effectiveness of experiential learning model for improving the multicultural competence of non-Javanese students in the Malang City. The true-experiment type quantitative study is conducted by using the pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects were 20 non-Javanese students in several universities in Malang City that had low multicultural competence. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was implemented in order to compare the score of the students before and after the treatment. In addition, Mann-Whitney U Test was also implemented in order to compare the level of effectiveness statistically between the control group and the experimental group after the provision of the treatment. The results of the study show that the experimental group has significant mean score of multicultural competence in comparison to the control group. The statement implies that the experiential learning model has been effective in improving the multicultural competence of non-Javanese students.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Roda Pelangi game to improve elementary school students’ fairness character. The research method was an experiment with a nonequivalent control group design type. The research instruments were: interview guidelines; observation guidelines; and Fairness Character Measurement Scale. The sample were twelve fourth grade students of Permata Ummat Trenggalek Integrated Islamic Elementary School that was chosen through purposive sampling. The significance score obtained based on data analysis using independent sample t-test was 0.047<0.05. The result showed Roda Pelangi game can improve elementary school students’ fairness character. Based on these results, it recommended: school counselor can use Roda Pelangi game in the guidance and counseling service process, especially to improve elementary school students’ fairness character; further researchers can use Roda Pelangi game to examine other variables and at other school levels using other research designs such as true experiment or guidance and counseling action research.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the differences in self-regulated learning of male and female students in Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Muhammadiyah in Yogyakarta, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This quantitative study using comparative method involving 414 students consisting of 226 male students and 188 female students as sample. The sample selection used Stratified Random Sampling technique. The instrument was the Self-regulated Learning Scale. To identify the differences in self-regulated learning of male and female students, Independent Sample Test were used. The results showed that there were significant differences between self-regulated learning of male and female students at Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Muhammadiyah in Yogyakarta. And, self-regulated learning of female student was higher than male students. The particular study recommended the need for counseling services to improve student self-regulated learning.
