Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of the Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) Strategy to improve Reading Comprehension of the recount text. Using a quasi-experimental design, this study involved 76 students from MTsN 3 Kediri. The experimental group consisted of 38 students from class VIII-G who were treated using the QAR strategy, while the other 38 students from class VIII-D were in the control group with the Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) strategy. Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to compare the effectiveness of the two strategies. The study results revealed that the Mean score for the experimental group was 75.79, whereas the control group scored 71.71 on average. The ANCOVA analysis indicated a significant value of 0.000, lower than the threshold of 0.05, suggesting that the QAR strategy was more successful in improving reading comprehension compared to the SSR strategy. Students taught using the QAR Strategy outperformed those taught using the SSR Strategy in comprehending recount texts.

Abstract

Writing in English is not easy that students need to be assisted. However, stumbling upon errors in writing is common among students that the value of error correction must be taken into account. Error analysis is a process used to identify the learning objectives attained by students in creating an inter language system. This study set out to determine the primary cause of the errors that seventh-grade students made when writing descriptive essays. Al-Khresheh’s (2010) theory was used in finding interlingual errors and Richard’s (1974) theory for intralingual errors. When writing descriptively, students make a variety of intralingual and interlingual mistakes. Interlingual error so includes literal translation, mother tongue interference, and transfer error. On the other hand, intralingual errors include oversimplification, disregard for rule limitations, partial rule application, and incorrect concept hypothesis. The results demonstrate that intralingual error—specifically, incomplete rule applications—and interlingual error—specifically, literal translation and interference from the mother tongue—are the primary causes of errors. In this instance, teachers must help students better grasp the laws of the target language when they are composing texts. More research on student writing errors should take into account the gender and genre of content being studied.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of Pixton.com in improving English writing skills among eighth-grade students. Using a quasi-experimental design, the research compares an experimental group that used Pixton.com with a control group that used conventional teaching methods. The focus was on students' ability to write storyboards about daily routines. The study involved two classes of eighth-grade students at MTs UW, selected based on teacher recommendations, with data collected through pre-test and post-test assessments. The results, analyzed using SPSS 25, revealed that the experimental group outperformed the control group, demonstrating a significant improvement in writing skills. The ANCOVA test further confirmed this significant difference, showing that Pixton.com had a positive impact on students' writing performance. The study also found that Pixton.com increased students’ motivation, creativity, and engagement in the writing process. Based on these findings, the study concludes that Pixton.com is an effective digital tool for enhancing students’ writing abilities and fostering a more interactive and engaging learning environment. Recommendations for English teachers include incorporating Pixton.com in writing lessons to improve language proficiency. Further research is suggested to investigate its broader applications in other educational contexts.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out whether there were differences between classes taught by the STAD method and conventional methods. The research design used a quasi-experimental static group comparison, where there was no pre-test but only a post-test which was carried out at the end of the study. This research conducted at SMK Negeri Gudo. The population in this study amounted to 300 students divided into 10 classes and the number of samples taken was 2 classes. The experimental class is class X TKJ1 and the control class is class X TKJ 2. The total sample is 63 students with 31 students in the experimental group and 32 students in the control group. Both classes were taught for 4 meetings with the STAD method in the experimental class and the conventional method in the control class. The results showed that there were differences post-test result in the experimental class and the control class. Where the experimental group obtained an average value of 73.03 and the control group of 61.16.In testing the research hypothesis, the Mann-WhitneyU nonparametric test was used. The Mann-WhitneyU test results show the Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) of .008 (<α = 0.05). It states that Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected, indicating that "There is a significant difference in academic achievement for listening skills between the students taught using STAD and the students taught using non-STAD teaching method”.
