Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Islamic education has increasingly narrowed its orientation toward content mastery, academic achievement, administrative compliance, and competitive demands, leaving the moral, spiritual, social, and human development of students insufficiently addressed. This study aims to reconstruct Islamic education through Ki Hajar Dewantara’s concept of humanizing human beings. It employed a qualitative approach with a library research design. The data were drawn from Ki Hajar Dewantara’s primary works and national and international literature on Islamic education, humanistic education, fitrah, adab, morality, and student-centered learning. The data were examined using directed qualitative content analysis through meaning-unit identification, coding, categorization, contextual interpretation, and conceptual synthesis. The study produced three main findings. First, the humanization crisis in Islamic education is rooted in the reduction of educational purposes, the weakening of educational relationships, the use of technology without adequate ethical orientation, and the persistent dichotomy between religious and general sciences. Second, the principles of student freedom, the among system, the educational trilogy, the nature of the learner, and the demands of the contemporary era position students as dignified human beings with potential, agency, and responsibility. Third, integrating Ki Hajar Dewantara’s thought with the principles of fitrah, adab, morality, and spiritual and social responsibility generates a framework for reconstructing Islamic education across ontological, teleological, pedagogical, relational, epistemological, contextual, and evaluative dimensions. This framework establishes humanizing human beings as a paradigm for developing Islamic education that is humanistic, student-centered, responsive to contemporary change, and firmly grounded in divine values and the common good.

Abstract

Prophetic leadership development in pesantren is often approached through normative value transmission, while praxis-oriented processes linking communication training and organisational experience remain insufficiently examined as an integrated framework. This study aimed to analyse the roles of muhadharah and the Al-Quraniyah Student Organisation (OSAQ) in developing prophetic leadership, the internalisation of shidiq, amanah, tabligh, and fathanah, and the factors supporting and inhibiting this process. A qualitative case study was conducted at Al-Quraniyah Islamic Boarding School, South Bengkulu, from January to March 2026. Ten informants were purposively selected, comprising one pesantren leader, three teacher-supervisors, and six active students. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, direct observations, and document analysis and were thematically analysed using combined deductive–inductive coding. Credibility was strengthened through source and method triangulation, limited member checking, and an audit trail. The findings demonstrate that muhadharah primarily developed confidence, communication competence, forum management, tabligh, and amanah, whereas OSAQ strengthened planning, coordination, deliberation, problem-solving, and decision-making, reflecting amanah, shidiq, and fathanah. These values were internalised through role rotation, direct responsibility, repeated practice, and supervisor evaluation. The process was supported by programme regularity and sustained mentoring but constrained by variations in readiness, low self-confidence among some students, and influences from social and digital environments. This study identifies muhadharah and OSAQ as complementary arenas of practice and conceptualises prophetic leadership as a contextual and experience-based educational process.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of monthly routine recitation and explain its role in strengthening the Islamic ukhuwah in the Sulit Air Sepakat (SAS) migrant community in South Bengkulu. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews with 11 informants consisting of administrators, speakers, active pilgrims, inactive pilgrims, and IPPSA representatives, as well as organizational documentation. The analysis was carried out through the process of coding, category grouping, and theme development, while the validity of the data was maintained through triangulation of sources and techniques, member checking, and discussions with peers. The results of the study showed that recitation was carried out through role sharing, a rotating place system, routine communication, and cross-generational involvement. The strengthening of ukhuwah Islamiyah can be seen in the practice of friendship, eating together, attention to sick or bereaved members, social assistance, and efforts to maintain connection with members who are rarely present. The findings also show the work of social capital through networking, trust, mutual relationships, and mutual help habits. However, the participation of members is still influenced by the distance of residence, work, family busyness, and hesitation after not participating in activities for a long time. This study confirms that routine recitation in nomadic communities not only functions as a space for religious learning, but also as a mechanism for maintaining solidarity, belonging, and social resilience of the community.
