Abstract

Heat is a prevalent and serious physical health risk for employees in a range of indoor and outdoor work settings. Heat stress at work alters physiological processes and has a variety of detrimental consequences on people's health and wellbeing. This study aimed to explore the physiological responses and impacts of heat exposure in outdoor workers. This study employed a literature review approach using Google Scholar, Wiley, and Pubmed databases. The results will be described through descriptive narratives and tables. Workers exposed to heat experience increased physiological reactions, including increased body temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure, especially those engaging in intense physical activity outdoors. Heat-related symptoms such as fatigue, excessive sweating, headaches, and muscle cramps can also occur in heat-exposed workers. These increased and altered physiological responses emphasize the importance of implementing preventative measures, such as managing work hours, maintaining hydration, and maintaining good health, to avoid heat-related illnesses and maintain workplace productivity.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the most persistent infectious diseases worldwide, particularly in Indonesia, which ranks second globally in the number of TB cases. This study aimed to determine the effect of community-based TB education conducted by the Penabulu STPI community on the attitudes of Jambi City residents. The research used a quantitative approach with a pre-test and post-test design. Data were collected using questionnaires to measure participants’ attitudes before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses, with the Wilcoxon signed rank test applied to determine significant differences in pre-test and post-test results. The findings revealed that most respondents were adults (85%), predominantly female (89%), and had completed senior high school (54%). Attitudes improved significantly, shifting from 19.2% negative responses before the intervention to 100% positive responses after. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed a statistically significant difference between respondents’ attitude scores before and after the intervention (Z = –8.395, p < 0.001).These results demonstrate that community-based education effectively enhances public awareness and encourages positive attitudes toward TB prevention and treatment, highlighting the essential role of grassroots initiatives in controlling the spread of tuberculosis.

Abstract

Horse oil, traditionally used as a medicinal remedy, contains essential amino acids that contribute to the repair of bones, muscle tissues, and skin, particularly in wound healing. Hydrogel preparations serve as topical wound dressings that provide a cooling effect, reduce inflammation, and support faster wound recovery. The aim of this research was to develop and evaluate the stability of a hydrogel formulated with horse oil (Equus caballus). The study involved heating horse fat at 105°C for two hours using an oven, followed by formulating the extracted oil into a hydrogel with a sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (NaCMC) base. The preparation underwent several tests including organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesion, viscosity, and stability evaluations. Results showed that formulations F1, F2, and F3 satisfied all evaluation criteria and maintained stability without changes in physical characteristics or pH levels.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus constitutes a chronic pathological condition that necessitates continuous therapeutic management throughout a patient’s lifetime and has been widely recognized as a major factor contributing to the deterioration of patients’ physical, psychological, and social well-being, thereby reducing their overall quality of life. Within this context, familial support emerges as a pivotal determinant that not only facilitates patients’ psychosocial adaptation to their illness but also enhances adherence to treatment regimens and coping mechanisms in daily life. Hence, the present study was conducted with the objective of elucidating the relationship between family support and the quality of life among individuals diagnosed with diabetes mellitus who receive treatment at Parongpong Public Health Center. This investigation employed a descriptive correlational research design with a cross-sectional orientation, encompassing a total of 34 respondents who were carefully selected through purposive sampling techniques based on predetermined inclusion criteria. The collected data were subjected to statistical analysis using the Pearson Product Moment correlation test to determine the strength and significance of the association between the studied variables. The findings revealed a statistically significant correlation between family support and quality of life (p = 0.009; r = 0.440), indicating a moderate positive relationship, wherein higher levels of family support corresponded to better perceived quality of life among patients. In light of these findings, it can be inferred that the presence of consistent and meaningful familial involvement contributes substantially to the enhancement of the overall quality of life in diabetes mellitus patients at Parongpong Public Health Center.

Abstract

Urolithiasis is a common urologic disorder characterized by stone formation along the urinary tract, predominantly affecting adult males and showing a high recurrence rate. Despite numerous global studies, data on the Central Sulawesi population remain limited, hindering the development of local management strategies. This study aims to describe the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of patients with urinary tract stones in Central Sulawesi from 2020 to 2024. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted using secondary data from electronic medical records and surgical archives of referral hospitals. A total of 4,078 patients diagnosed with urinary tract stones were analyzed descriptively based on age, sex, diagnosis, and treatment modalities. The mean age was 47.77 ± 14.80 years, and males accounted for 53.4% of cases. Ureteral stones were the most frequent diagnosis (48.4%), followed by renal stones (40.4%) and bladder stones (11.0%). In terms of management, ureterorenoscopy (URS) with DJ stent insertion was most common (20.15%), followed by extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) (10.15%), while 47.29% were managed with medical expulsive therapy (MET). These findings indicate that urolithiasis in Central Sulawesi mainly affects males in productive age, with ureteral stones as the leading type. Minimally invasive procedures, especially URS and ESWL, dominate clinical practice, highlighting the need for strengthened prevention, early detection, and urological service infrastructure.

Abstract

The older adults are a population vulnerable to mental health problems, particularly depression. Exercise-based game is a game-based training activity that involves body movement according to given instructions and is considered effective in improving emotional balance and reducing depressive symptoms in older adults. This study aimed to determine the effect of exercise-based game and education on reducing depression levels among the older adults at the Posyandu Lansia Bugar Mandiri Bangunrejo, Yogyakarta. This experimental study employed a quasi-experimental approach with a pre-test and post-test two group design. The sampling technique used total sampling with 30 participants divided equally into two groups of 15 each. The training program was conducted three times a week for four weeks. The research instrument used the Geriatric Depression Scale, and data were analyzed using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The results showed that both exercise-based game and education significantly reduced depression in the older adults (p = 0.00; p < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.096; p > 0.05). In conclusion, both exercise-based game and education are effective in reducing depression among the older adults, but neither showed a significantly greater effect than the other.

Abstract

Pneumonia is one of the leading causes of death among toddlers in Indonesia. One effective preventive measure is providing exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life. This study aims to determine the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of pneumonia among toddlers at the Padasuka Health Center, Bandung City, in 2024. This research employed an analytical quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach and a total sampling technique involving 200 toddlers recorded as having pneumonia based on medical records and IMCI register books. The results showed that 68.5% of toddlers received exclusive breastfeeding, 76.5% experienced mild pneumonia, and 23.5% had severe pneumonia. The Chi-Square test yielded a p-value of 0.001, indicating a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the severity of pneumonia. Toddlers who did not receive exclusive breastfeeding had a higher risk of developing severe pneumonia compared to those who were exclusively breastfed. In conclusion, exclusive breastfeeding plays an important role in reducing the risk of severe pneumonia among toddlers. It is expected that these findings can serve as a basis for healthcare workers to enhance education for mothers on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Dacryocystitis is an inflammation of the lacrimal sac resulting from nasolacrimal duct obstruction, which interferes with tear drainage and leads to secondary infection. It commonly occurs in children and individuals over 40 years old, characterized by pain, redness, and swelling in the medial canthus area. This study aims to evaluate radiological findings of dacryocystitis in a child using Computed Tomography (CT) Scan as the main diagnostic modality. The descriptive case study involved a six-year-old girl with right eye pain and swelling for seven days before hospitalization. Physical examination revealed swelling, hyperemia, and tenderness in the right lower eyelid. Orbital CT-scan showed a hypodense lesion in the right inferior orbital region extending to the inferior canaliculus and proximal lacrimal sac, with periorbital swelling confirming dacryocystitis. Follow-up imaging demonstrated lesion enlargement, indicating progressive inflammation. The patient received antibiotic and supportive therapy, leading to clinical improvement after treatment. CT-scan examination proved essential in confirming diagnosis, assessing inflammation severity, and guiding appropriate treatment planning.
