Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Previous studies have shown the risky behavior that causes women’s vulnerability in markets to STI transmission is sexual intercourse with more than one partner. The present study reveals in depth risky sexual behavior and STI prevention among female merchants based on the behavioral theory of the Health Belief Model.  This study aims to determine the risky sexual behavior and prevention of STIs in female merchants based on the behavioral theory of health belief model. Methods: This study uses mix-methods (quantitative and qualitative methods). Using the quantitative method, this study first found a descriptive picture with a cross-sectional design. Then with the qualitative method, it extracted more in depth the experiences and social contexts experienced by the participants. The research sample was taken from 100 female merchants and in-depth interviews were conducted with 20 of those who had had sexual intercourse with an age range of 18-45 years in Denpasar City. Respondents were selected by purposive sampling. Results: Risky sexual behavior by most of the respondents is by having premarital sexual intercourse. Most of the respondents, which is 60%, in the market perceive such action would not risk getting an STI because of loyalty to their partner. In terms of the seriousness of STIs, they assume it is indeed a serious disease. Nevertheless, to prevent STIs, the respondents assure us that avoiding risky sexual behavior is not truly what matters. The respondents believe they can manage to afford not to engage in risky sexual behavior for the prevention of STIs. Conclusion: Most female merchants believe having risky sexual intercourse will not risk causing them to contract an STI. To overcome this, it is necessary to establish special programs to reduce the number of STIs in the community, especially in low-risk groups such as female merchants.

Abstract

Health and nutrition during pregnancy has a close relationship with child development. Poor nutritional status during pregnancy can have an impact on fetal growth restriction (FGR), low birth weight (LBW) and stunting. Efforts to reduce the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia are carried out through the 1000 days of life program. The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) of Warmadewa University integrates the first 1000 days program in the field of education through the implementation of community-oriented medical education. This study aims to provide an overview of the characteristics of pregnancy and childbirth obtained by the first 1000 days program in the Payangan Sub-District, Bali Province. Abstract

Cervical cancer remains a major public health problem and is one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality among women in Indonesia. Early detection through Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) is an effective and feasible screening method at the primary health care level. However, the coverage of VIA screening among women of reproductive age (WRA) remains low. Knowledge is considered an important predisposing factor that may influence women's motivation to undergo VIA screening. This study aimed to analyze the association between cervical cancer knowledge and motivation to undergo VIA screening among women of reproductive age. This study employed a quantitative analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 105 women of reproductive age were recruited using consecutive sampling at the Payangan Community Health Center, Gianyar Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected using validated and reliable structured questionnaires measuring cervical cancer knowledge and motivation to undergo VIA screening. Univariate analysis was performed to describe respondent characteristics, while bivariate analysis using the chi-square test was applied to examine the association between knowledge and motivation at a significance level of 5%. The results showed that 61.9% of respondents had good knowledge of cervical cancer, while 52.4% demonstrated low motivation to undergo VIA screening. A statistically significant association was found between cervical cancer knowledge and motivation to undergo VIA screening (p = 0.043). Women with higher levels of knowledge tend to have greater motivation to participate in VIA screening. In conclusion, cervical cancer knowledge is significantly associated with motivation to undergo VIA screening among women of reproductive age. These findings suggest that strengthening health education interventions at primary health care facilities is essential to enhance motivation and increase participation in early cervical cancer detection programs.

Abstract

The health-related issues identified indicate that students have not yet developed sufficient skills in managing the School Health Unit (UKS), and existing health education programs have not been implemented optimally. From an educational perspective, students are proficient in only one foreign language, namely English, which may limit their broader communication competencies. Economically, many students’ parents work as traders and tour guides, highlighting the importance of equipping students with basic entrepreneurial and financial management skills from an early age. Socially and culturally, instances of bullying have been reported, while from an environmental perspective, students demonstrate limited understanding of proper organic and non-organic waste management. Based on fields assessment, the priority issues identified include strengthening adolescent health programs and utilizing school land to support food security initiatives. In response, the community service implementation team formulated integrated solutions addressing adolescent health, environmental health, and economic empowerment. In the health sector, the intervention focused on adolescent health education emphasizing reproductive health, balanced nutrition, and clean and healthy living behaviors. To support environmental health, demonstrations on processing organic waste into compost and using it as planting media for vegetables and fruits within the school environment were conducted, aiming to reduce mosquito breeding and prevent dengue transmission. In the economic sector, mental accounting training was provided to improve students’ financial literacy and personal financial management skills. The activities were delivered through presentations and interactive discussions. The results indicate that the program was effective as a promotive and preventive strategy to improve adolescent health and financial awareness.
