Abstract

This study examines the strategic use of euphemisms in news headlines regarding the Gaza conflict published by The Jakarta Post. Euphemism functions as a linguistic tool that mitigates the impact of sensitive or politically charged topics, shaping public perception and discourse. Using Allan and Burridge theory (1991) framework, the research categorizes euphemistic expressions found in 39 headlines and identifies prevalent strategies such as one-for-one substitution, technical jargon, understatement, and circumlocution.

Abstract

This study examines the role of listening in the pedagogical practices of Christian Religious Education (CRE) teachers with an emphasis on the function and strategy of listening as a holistic and relational approach. Through observation of narrative literature on various educational literature, this study identified four main functions of listening, namely: building trust relationships, upholding equality, being a means of assessment, and as a relational pedagogical tool. In addition, four main strategies were found that can be applied by CRE teachers, namely: listening in three stages (pre, during, and post), metacognitive and critical strategy, a holistic approach, and listening attentively. This study also revealed the contradiction between the function of listening as an evaluative versus relational tool, as well as research related to the quantitative influence of listening on student learning outcomes. These results indicate the importance of listening as a form of professional ethics, an expression of love, and a means to explore spiritual meaning in the relationship between teachers and students. This study recommends strengthening CRE teacher training in developing listening competencies as an integral part of transformative teaching.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of inclusive education at the elementary school level from a teacher’s perspective, especially English language instruction. The analysis focus on four key indicators: the availability of instructional materials, the preparedness of human resources, institutional support, and parental involvement. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, using semi-structured interviews with a second-grade English language teacher at SD Laboratorium, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo, an inclusive elementary school located in Gorontalo, Indonesia. Findings reveal that while learning materials for students with special educational needs are available, they still require further adaptation and creativity on the part of the teacher. Regarding human resources, the teacher has received basic training in inclusive education but continues to face challenges, including the limited availability of special education support staff. Institutional support is evident through training programs and inclusive policies, although budget constraints remain a significant obstacle. Parental involvement is very active, contributing positively to the continuity of learning at home. This study emphasizes the importance of collaborative efforts among teachers, schools, government, and parents in constructing an effective inclusive education environment, particularly in the context of English language learning for students with special needs.

Abstract

This study aims to provide empirical evidence on the effect of corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure on firm value, with profitability as a moderating variable. The object of this study is energy sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the 2021–2023 period. This research is grounded in signaling theory as the main theoretical framework and is supported by contingency theory to explain the moderating role of profitability in the relationship between CSR disclosure and firm value. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling method, resulting in 22 companies with a total of 66 observations over a three-year period. The analytical technique employed is Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA). The findings reveal that CSR disclosure has a positive effect on firm value, and that profitability strengthens the effect of CSR disclosure on firm value.

Abstract

The phenomenon of inclusive art for artists with disabilities, especially neurodivergent, has been gaining more attention in Indonesia. One of the art studios that supports neurodivergent artists is Tab Space, which provides a place and facilities for artists to work. However, until now, Tab Space has faced problems in providing adequate facilities, especially in terms of personal work areas for artists and also storage of large-scale works, given the limited space in the studio. This study uses a design thinking approach with the stages of empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and testing to design a solution that can overcome this problem. The results of this study are in the form of a proposal for a compact multipurpose working desk design that can provide a personal work area for neurodivergent artists, also provide a place to store large-scale works, while meeting functional needs and space efficiency. The benefits of this study are to provide design solutions that support the sustainability of neurodivergent artists' creativity, increase their comfort and productivity, and strengthen the inclusive arts ecosystem in Indonesia.

Abstract

The welfare of fishermen in Desa Adat Jimbaran, Badung Regency, remains relatively low due to various interrelated factors, including limited human resources, the continued use of traditional fishing methods, restricted access to capital, poor financial management habits, and the underutilization of modern fishing technology. This study aims to analyze the determinants of fishermen’s income and welfare by focusing on three main variables: working capital, technology, and work experience. Using a quantitative approach with Partial Least Squares (PLS) as the analytical tool, this research was conducted among fishermen in Desa Adat Jimbaran, who face uncertainties in daily catch volumes and income. The findings reveal that working capital and work experience have a positive and significant effect on both income and welfare, while technology has a positive but statistically insignificant effect. Income is also found to be a significant mediating variable between the independent variables and fishermen’s welfare. These results suggest that while capital and experience are essential in enhancing income and living standards, the application of fishing technology has not produced optimal outcomes due to limited skills and high operational costs. Therefore, there is a need for training and improved access to user-friendly technology to strengthen the economic resilience of traditional fishing communities.

Abstract

Translanguaging has become a concept of increasing interest in English as a foreign language (EFL) teaching, especially since this approach challenges the traditional boundaries between first language (L1) and target language (L2) in learning. This study aims to critically examine the main theories underlying translanguaging and evaluate its implementation in EFL classroom practice. Using a literature review method, this study analyzes various empirical studies and theoretical writings related to the application of translanguaging in various educational contexts, especially in EFL environments. The results of the study indicate that translanguaging not only supports students' conceptual understanding but also plays a role in building linguistic identity and increasing learning engagement. However, there are challenges such as teachers' lack of understanding of translanguaging and educational policies that still tend to favor a monolingual approach. This study recommends the need for more in-depth teacher training and flexibility in language policies to support effective translanguaging in EFL classrooms.

Abstract

The Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) method is one of the project scheduling techniques designed to address the uncertainty of activity durations. In this study, PERT is used to analyze the probability of completing the reconstruction project of Jalan Baureno – Kadungrejo, Bojonegoro, which has experienced significant delays from the original schedule. PERT allows for the estimation of project completion time based on three main parameters: optimistic time, most likely time, and pessimistic time. Through this probabilistic approach, the estimated project completion time (expected time), standard deviation, and variance of the project's critical path are calculated. The analysis results show that the use of the PERT method provides important information regarding the possibility of project completion within a certain timeframe and helps in formulating strategies to mitigate the risk of delays. In addition, this method has also proven effective in rescheduling the project based on the level of confidence in its successful completion. The application of PERT in this research provides a realistic picture of the management of complex and dynamic project timelines, and supports more measurable managerial decision-making in construction projects.

Abstract

The capital market serves as an essential platform for investors to earn returns through stock investments. Stock returns are a key indicator for evaluating investment performance and are crucial in investors' decision-making processes. Returns reflect the profit or gain from stock investments and act as a benchmark of a company's performance in the capital market. However, the significant fluctuations in stock returns among textile and garment sub-sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during 2020–2023 indicate instability, potentially undermining investor confidence. This study aims to analyze the effect of profitability (ROA), liquidity (CR), and leverage (DER) on stock returns in textile and garment sub-sector companies on the IDX during the 2020–2023 period. The sample consists of 18 companies selected using a non-probability sampling method. The study adopts a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis. The results reveal that profitability has a positive and significant effect on stock returns, while liquidity and leverage have no significant effect. These findings suggest that a company's ability to generate profits is a key signal considered by investors in evaluating the potential returns of a stock.

Abstract

Song lyrics have become a powerful medium for expressing emotions, shaping identities, and addressing social and cultural themes in contemporary music. This study explores how lyrics function as literary texts with poetic structures and devices such as metaphor, narrative arc, and symbolism. It also examines their role in reflecting and influencing cultural values, linguistic trends, and collective consciousness. Drawing from selected examples across genres, the analysis reveals that lyrics often convey deeper meanings beyond their surface appeal, serving as tools for critique, resistance, and storytelling. As language becomes increasingly simplified in popular music, lyrics continue to adapt while maintaining their cultural relevance. The integration of literary analysis and cultural context demonstrates how lyrics articulate personal experiences and societal concerns, offering listeners a mirror to their realities and aspirations. Additionally, the global reach of English in songwriting highlights issues of identity, hybridity, and cross-cultural communication. By treating lyrics as both artistic and sociocultural expressions, this work emphasizes the enduring significance of words in music and their contribution to understanding contemporary life. The exploration affirms that lyrics are not merely accompanying text but essential components of meaning-making in modern musical compositions.
