Abstract

Symbolic discrimination in the workplace represents a form of structural violence often overlooked by criminal law and human rights protection mechanisms. One manifestation of this discrimination is the stigmatization of religious expressions manifested through attire, such as the wearing of ankle-high trousers (cingkrang), frequently associated with particular religious groups. Although such expressions do not violate legal norms or professional ethics, they often become the basis for social exclusion, professional marginalization, and ideological labeling that harm individuals within professional settings. This article analyzes the forms of victimization experienced by individuals expressing religious identities through a victimological lens and within the framework of symbolic discrimination. Utilizing a normative-juridical approach, this study examines constitutional guarantees of religious freedom, protections against discriminatory treatment as outlined in Law No. 39 of 1999 on Human Rights, and international instruments such as ILO Convention No. 111. Additionally, it explores the relevance of provisions within the Indonesian Penal Code (KUHP) that could potentially be used to protect victims of symbolic discrimination. The findings reveal that discrimination against religious symbols creates unjust power relations and causes psychosocial harm to victims—harm that is often beyond the reach of conventional criminal law. Thus, this study advocates for an expansion of victimological perspectives within criminal law policies to address non-physical yet systemically harmful acts against individual dignity in professional settings.

Abstract

Education should be an effective tool to shape individuals capable of developing civilization. Education is defined as a conscious and planned effort to create a learning environment and learning process so that students can actively develop their potential, including spiritual strength, self-control, personality, intelligence, good morals, and skills needed for themselves and society (SISDIKNAS Law No. 20 of 2003). In Buddhism, education is seen as a process rooted in practice (sikkha), where individuals learn, practice, study, develop, and achieve enlightenment. This includes moral discipline (síla), concentration (samadhi), and knowledge or wisdom (pañña). Education in the context of Buddhism is an ongoing effort to improve oneself and become a wise human being. Buddhism, as a religion and philosophy rooted in the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama or Buddha, carries a number of values that can be integrated in the context of contemporary education, namely Compassion (Metta), Wisdom (Panna), Simplicity (Apicchat), Empathy (Karuna). The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with research participants consisting of various stakeholders in the educational environment including schools that have implemented Buddhist values.  By understanding the concept of Buddhism, ethics, implementation methods, and relevance through this approach, this research can provide a strong basis to explore the impact of implementing Buddhist values in contemporary education and identify potential improvements in the education system. It is important to understand the relevance of Buddhism in the complex contemporary educational environment. How Buddhist values can contribute to the formation of wiser, ethical and harmonious individuals in the modern educational context. In this regard, Buddhism can provide a perspective that helps students cope with challenges more calmly and empathetically.

Abstract

Objective – This research aims to analyse effect of organizational culture, compensation and personality traits on employee performance in Tangerang private university using innovative work behaviour as intervening variables. Design/methodology/approach – This research uses quantitative approach with the unit of analysis 306 lecturer working in 11 private universities in Tangerang. Cross-sectional and one-shot data collection was carried out through distribution of google form questionnaires. The proposed model includes 10 hypotheses tested using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Findings – Majority of respondents are male, aged < 30 year, master degree, married, average monthly income > IDR 5-10 million, work experience > 1-5 year, and expert assistant. The result shows that compensation, personality traits and innovative work behaviour has positive and significant effect on employee performance, but organizational culture does not have an effect on employee performance. Innovative work behaviour shows a full mediation effect of organizational culture on employee performance.  Theoretical Implications – This research could enrich the body of knowledge about organizational culture, compensation, personality traits, innovative work behaviour and employee performance. Unlike the results of previous studies, this study shows that organizational culture has no effect on employee performance of private university lectures. Managerial Implications – Improvement of employee performance could be improved through 1) University leaders explain in detail about vision and mission of the university, 2) Maintaining fair compensation based on work performance, 3) Lectures keep high motivation to give best effort, 4) Maintaining innovative work behaviour to find new teaching and research methods.  Originality/value – Research about effect of organizational culture, compensation and personality traits on employee performance mediated by innovative work behaviour in private university are still very limited.

Abstract

Roads are one of the infrastructures that play a very important role in development in a region for economic growth and public welfare, especially in Indonesia. when the construction of road pavements according to their function was introduced. In order to maintain the quality of road services, one of these efforts is to evaluate the condition of damage to the road pavement, namely by reviewing measurements of the condition of the road surface. This condition also applies to the Tambakboyo Highway section, Lamongan Regency, East Java Province, where, like other roads, every year there is traffic growth due to the increasing population, causing the road pavement construction to be damaged. In this study, a study was conducted to calculate road damage using the pavement condition index (PCI) method and to calculate the estimated cost of repairs that need to be done. The results of the analysis of the estimated cost of road repairs based on the budget plan) show that the total cost of the work, including 11% Value Added Tax, reached IDR 5,440,000.00. The largest cost component is found in STA 0+600 – 0+800, which requires quite large repair costs, in accordance with the pavement conditions that require patching.

Abstract

Boys' Love (BL) films serve as an effective medium for increasing tolerance and understanding towards the LGBT community. The current easy access through various digital media platforms is a supporting factor. The proliferation of BL content films has now "influenced" Generation Z, changing their perspective on LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) individuals. In Indonesia, given the socio-cultural context, many fans of BL films view them merely as a form of entertainment with no intention of openly supporting the LGBT community's existence. Interestingly, continuous consumption of BL content can lead to a shift in one's viewpoint. Generation Z's pro and contra perspectives pose a dilemma in society. While LGBT is still considered contrary to norms by most of the global community, tolerance for LGBT individuals is now emerging from Generation Z. The background for Generation Z's acceptance of LGBT stems from technological advancements and the effects of dissemination through social media. The authors will examine this phenomenon using critical discourse analysis and conduct interviews with Generation Z fans of Boys' Love films.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of nutrigenomics and personalized nutrition in the context of public health interventions through a literature review approach. Nutrigenomics is a branch of science that studies the interaction between genes and nutrients, and how individual genetic variations influence responses to certain food intakes. In recent decades, the development of genomic technologies has enabled a deeper understanding of how nutrition can be tailored to an individual's genetic profile to prevent disease and promote optimal health. Through a systematic review of various scientific publications, articles, and recent research reports, this study identifies the potential for integrating nutrigenomics into community nutrition strategies, while analyzing the ethical, social, and practical challenges in its implementation. The results of the study indicate that personalized nutrition based on genetic data has great prospects in improving the effectiveness of public health programs, especially in efforts to prevent non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. However, the widespread implementation of this approach still requires a strong regulatory framework, public education, and multidisciplinary collaboration between nutritionists, geneticists, and policy makers. This study is expected to be the basis for the development of scientific evidence-based nutrition policies and more precise approaches in the future.

Abstract

Policy uncertainty is one of the factors that significantly affects the investment climate in the agribusiness sector, especially in the context of sustainable development. This study aims to explore the relationship between policy uncertainty and investment risk in sustainable agribusiness efforts in Indonesia. Through a literature review method, this study analyzes various scientific sources and policy documents related to regulatory changes, regulatory inconsistencies, and political and economic uncertainty that impact investment decisions in the agribusiness sector. The results of the study indicate that policy uncertainty can increase financial and operational risks for investors, hinder capital flows, and reduce interest in long-term investment in environmentally friendly agribusiness systems. In addition, this uncertainty weakens legal certainty, increases transaction costs, and reduces market efficiency. This study recommends the importance of cross-sector policy harmonization, regulatory transparency, and legal certainty as a foundation for creating a stable agribusiness investment climate that supports sustainable development goals.

Abstract

Indonesia, widely recognized as a maritime country with vast marine potential, has yet to achieve salt self-sufficiency despite its favorable geographical conditions. This study aims to analyze the efficiency of input utilization and economies of scale in salt production in Buleleng Regency, one of the main salt-producing regions in Bali Province. A quantitative approach using an associative method and the Cobb-Douglas production function model was employed to examine the influence of capital, labor, land area, and technology on salt production. The sample consisted of 126 traditional salt farmers selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. The results indicate that all input variables—capital, labor, land area, and technology—have a positive and significant effect on production, both partially and simultaneously. Salt production in Buleleng exhibits increasing returns to scale, suggesting potential for output expansion if inputs are optimized. The efficiency analysis reveals that capital, land area, and geomembrane technology are not yet utilized optimally (Ef > 1), while labor is used excessively (Ef < 1). Additionally, the production process is highly dependent on weather conditions, as all salt farmers can only operate during the dry season. These findings underscore the importance of improving access to technology and enhancing input management efficiency to support increased productivity and national salt self-sufficiency.
