Abstract

This research examines the intricate issues of land grabbing and agrarian conflicts in Indonesia, spotlighting the socio-economic and legal challenges faced by local communities, smallholders, and indigenous peoples. Utilizing a normative legal methodology, the study delves into statutory, conceptual, and futuristic approaches to analyze the phenomenon of land grabbing, which has been exacerbated by global food demand, economic interests, and the expansion of capitalism. The enactment of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the new Criminal Code (KUHP) in Indonesia marks a pivotal development in addressing crimes against land, offering robust legal protection against land dispossession, and ensuring equitable land transactions. The research underscores the dire need for agrarian reform, rooted in the principles of the Basic Agrarian Law (UUPA) and aimed at rectifying the unequal distribution of land. It argues for a balanced approach that harmonizes the interests of society, including marginalized groups, with those of investors to foster sustainable development and social justice. The study highlights the legislative efforts to tackle land-related crimes through the new KUHP, emphasizing the significance of transparency, fairness, and the protection of legal rights in land management. Through a comprehensive analysis, this research contributes to the discourse on sustainable national development, advocating for policy reforms and legal measures to combat land grabbing. It calls for a more democratic policy-making process, involving civil society's active participation, to ensure equitable land distribution and uphold the welfare of smallholders and indigenous peoples.

Abstract

Sustainable development and climate change are two interconnected global issues that demand urgent attention and action. Governments play a central role in navigating these challenges by formulating and implementing effective policies and organizing adequate international frameworks. These policies include initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote the use of renewable energy, and improve the efficient use of natural resources. Through the imposition of policy instruments such as carbon taxes, green energy subsidies, and energy efficiency provisions, the government provides incentives for people and industries to transition to environmentally friendly operating models. In addition, government efforts also include building community resilience to the negative impacts of climate change with adaptation, mitigation, and disaster risk reduction-based approaches. Public education and environmental awareness are recognized as essential factors that encourage citizen participation and responsibility for the environment. In the international arena, cooperation between countries through global conferences and agreements such as the Paris Agreement is an important step to equalize perceptions and share global responsibilities.

Abstract

Wedding ceremonies in Indonesia are a reflection of the country's diverse ethnic groups and religious beliefs. Indonesian weddings are known for their vibrant and colorful traditional attire, with each region having its unique style. The wedding festivities are a sight to behold, with traditional dances, music, and food organized by the groom. The wedding customs and practices vary based on the region, religion, and culture of the couple. Some of the most captivating wedding traditions in Indonesia include the siraman, a pre-wedding ritual where the couple is bathed in a mixture of flowers, herbs, and spices to cleanse and purify them before their marriage; the exchange of gifts or seserahan; and the bride's proposal in Minangkabau weddings. In Javanese weddings, the couple's families meet formally to set a date, decide on the budget, and divvy up tasks between themselves. Indonesian weddings are a unique opportunity to gain insight into various Indonesian cultures and social traditions. The wedding ceremonies in Indonesia are usually a festive, communal event, and the entire neighborhood where the married couple lives is welcome and expected to attend. The wedding ceremonies consist of three events: lamaran, tunangan, and pernikahan. The Nikah is held in a private ceremony or at the venue of the reception, and the most important people to felicitate the wedding are the Imam and two witnesses. The traditional Indonesian menu includes the staple fried rice, stir-fried noodles served with a variety of seafood options such as shrimp, fish, etc., in sweet and sour sauce.

Abstract

Sultana Mudjahed had to deal with a series of events that concern her pride as a woman, her faith, her identity, her community, her government and her past. Everything is in the form of a dramatic fiction written by Malika Mokeddem in her work "The Forbidden Women". Equipped with the viewpoint of the second main character, Vincent Chauvet, a French professor of mathematics who received a kidney donation from an Algerian woman, Mokeddem attempted to build a storyline by explaining the condition of the Algerian mentality. The experience of Algerian society which was once colonized by France plus the nuances of the Arab-Islamic cultural community was displayed in conversations between the main actors.
