Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of angklung extracurricular activities and explore their role in supporting the memory development of children aged 5–6 years at Himawari Kindergarten. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, involving 18 children from Group B, along with teachers and the school principal as participants. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings indicate that angklung activities provide meaningful learning experiences that support children’s memory development, as reflected in their ability to recall tones, rhythmic patterns, and teacher instructions during practice sessions. The activity implementation consisted of three main stages: preparation, core practice, and closing, utilizing learning strategies such as demonstration, repetition, and musical games. Several challenges emerged, including differences in children’s abilities, limited equipment, and fluctuations in focus; however, these were addressed through adaptive and engaging teaching approaches. Overall, angklung extracurricular activities contribute not only to the development of auditory and motor memory but also to the enhancement of children’s discipline, cooperation, and self-confidence <w:LsdException Lock

Abstract

This study aims to improve the reading skills of early childhood reading skills through stimulating activities with fishing game. This study was conducted using classroom action research design, namely the group B in RA Masyitoh Gerjen Sayegan Sleman, Yogyakarta. In the beginning, before the action carried out found that the reading ability of students is still very low, children tend to be passive when participating in learning activities. Most children scored below 2, for a range of values 1-4 means that the child has not developed the ability to read. It is known by observing students during activities in preparation centers, further action is taken by using the media game, namely the fishing game. After conducting fishing game, the ability to read children in group B in RA Masyitoh Gerjen increased. This is evident from the observation that researchers do about upgrading early childhood reading. In the first cycle results obtained 18.18%, 30.76% sikus II and III cycle of 84.61%. It can be concluded that the game Fishing Game can improve children's ability to read the beginning of group B RA Masyitoh Gerjen Seyegan Sleman, Yogyakarta. Keywords: Fishing Game, Stimulation  Reading Ability for Chaildren ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca anak usia dini melalui kegiatan menstimulasi kemampuan membaca dengan fishing game. Abstract

This article explores the urgency of giving the character education to children at an early age. Nowadays, the values of character among teenagers have been lost. The prominent evidence of losing the character values is rampant violence and clashes among students. The problems that led to the decline of the character of children are the crisis of religious values (spirituality), cultural nobility crisis due to a globalization, and the crisis of model from parents and teachers. Therefore, the character education should be applied to children at an early age because early childhood is the golden age that will determine children’s development in the future whether physical, mental, character and intelligence. One of the ways to educate children is through the model approach of families and parents. In addition, teachers also play an important role in educating character to children. This is achieved through teachers’ model like honest, high integrity, discipline and so on. Another way is by singing kids song in the learning process. Singing is an activity that cannot be separated from the life of early childhood. Therefore, teaching and giving character values to children is more effective and easily accepted through singing. Moreover, values or moral of the song will be remembered by the children in a longer time.

Abstract

Children explore shapes in their daily lives. Understanding geometry is needed in children’s daily life and help them to develop their ability in solving problem. However, in Indonesia, learning math in the context of early childhood education merely focuses on learning numbers. Therefore, it is possible that teachers do not have sufficient knowledge in teaching geometry. For this reason, it is important to find out early childhood education teachers’ and prospective teachers’ understanding about geometric shapes. This study used descriptive qualitative approach to answer the research question of how early childhood education teachers and prospective teachers understand geometric shapes. The data were collected using semi-structured interviews then analysed using thematic analysis. Findings showed that early childhood education teachers and prospective teachers have lack of understanding about geometric shapes particularly in their content knowledge of 2-dimensional geometry, how to teach and assess children’s learning in geometry. It is suggested that early childhood education teachers as well as prospective teachers improve their knowledge about geometry. Early childhood education schools and universities are also expected to provide professional development and explore further other areas of mathematics, such as geometry not just focusing on numbers.
