Abstract

This study aims to implement the Independent Curriculum in learning at Gideon Kalabahi Christian School. The method used is a qualitative research approach with a descriptive qualitative approach and is set at Gideon Kalabahi Christian Elementary School. The subjects in this study were teachers of grades IA, IB, IVA, and IVB, and students. Data collection methods used interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis used descriptive qualitative data analysis. The data collection techniques used were interviews, observation, and documentation. Meanwhile, the data analysis techniques used were data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results of this study can be concluded that the implementation of the Independent Curriculum-based learning at Gideon Kalabahi Christian Elementary School has followed the stages in accordance with the Independent Curriculum concept. Although there were obstacles such as the lack of student or teacher handbooks, the results showed that teachers used learning resources relevant to the learning.

Abstract

Education in elementary schools today no longer focuses solely on memorization but needs to lead to a deeper understanding of concepts. This aligns with the spirit of the Independent Curriculum, which emphasizes meaningful learning for students. This study examines the validity of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) as a key strategy in elementary schools, critically analyzing it through a constructivist epistemology lens. Using a literature review method, this research examines the suitability of the PBL structure to students' cognitive development. The results indicate that Problem-Based Learning (PBL) aligns with the thinking styles of elementary school students at the concrete operational stage, as learning begins with real-life problems relevant to their lives (Piaget), while group interactions stimulate the construction of social knowledge (Vygotsky). Furthermore, this study highlights the urgency of integrating Flipped Learning as a technological scaffold to effectively utilize face-to-face time for higher-order thinking activities. It can be concluded that PBL can be an appropriate approach to help students achieve deeper understanding in learning.

Abstract

Teachers play a strategic role in the implementation of educational management, both through their instructional duties in the classroom and their participation in school organisations. This journal examines the contribution of teachers from these two perspectives, emphasising the reciprocal relationship between pedagogical competence and managerial capacity. Teachers are not only actors in learning, but also agents of change, academic leaders, managers of organisational culture, and implementers of educational policy. Through theoretical analysis and literature review, this journal shows that improving the quality of education is greatly influenced by the balance and collaboration between teachers' roles in the school context. This journal also provides an in-depth understanding of the challenges and strategies for strengthening the role of teachers in modern educational management.

Abstract

This study is a literature review that examines the use of audio-visual media in Social Studies learning at the elementary school level. The purpose of this research is to analyze the role of audio-visual media in attracting students’ attention, supporting understanding of learning materials, and improving learning outcomes. The method used is a literature study by collecting data from journals, books, and relevant scientific sources published in recent years. The data analyzed consist of secondary data using a descriptive qualitative approach. The findings show that audio-visual media can increase students’ interest and learning motivation, facilitate understanding of abstract concepts, and have a positive impact on students’ learning outcomes. Audio-visual media also create more concrete and meaningful learning experiences through visual and auditory presentation. However, several obstacles were identified, including limited facilities, technical problems, and teachers’ low ability in operating the media. Therefore, institutional support and teacher training are needed to optimize the use of audio-visual media in Social Studies learning.

Abstract

This research starts from the idea that film as an art form, naturally cannot be separated from moral values ​​with the aim of assessing a person's quality. The film Sang Pencerah tells the story of Kiai Haji Ahmad Dahlan's struggle in spreading the idea of ​​Islamic renewal in Indonesia, making it an interesting object to analyze. This research uses a semiotic analysis method, with a descriptive qualitative approach, so as to be able to understand social phenomena in depth. Primary data sources are original information in the form of films, while secondary data sources include literature that supports and is relevant to the research topic. The analysis in this research is related to the message and moral values ​​in the film Sang Pencerah. The results of the research show that the film Sang Pencerah effectively uses visual meanings such as updating the direction of the Qibla with a compass which represents rationality and correction, the use of a blackboard symbolizing modern education and liberation from ignorance, caring for street children and the poor as a form of mutual respect and love, and the accusation of infidel kiai which reinforces that truth and progress often come at the price of resistance. These findings highlight how the film Sang Pencerah not only narrates history, but also semiotically builds understanding and moral values ​​that are relevant for society.

Abstract

This study is based on the importance of educational animation media in conveying moral messages and shaping children’s character from an early age, as exemplified by the animated series Nussa and Rara. The purpose of this research is to analyze the representation of bullying in the Nussa and Rara series and evaluate its impact on children’s understanding of bullying, particularly within the learning environment of Madrasah Diniyah Awaliyah Sullamul Khairiyah, Serimbu Village, Landak Regency. This study employs a qualitative approach with phenomenological method. Data were collected through observation of selected episodes related to the theme of bullying, as well as interviews with students as research subjects. Several episodes, including Stop Bullying, Jangan Menuduh, Maaf (Part 1 & 2), and Tolong dan Terima Kasih were chosen as the primary focus since they explicitly depict various forms of bullying and anti-bullying values. The findings reveal that after watching the series, children’s understanding of bullying significantly improved. They began to recognize that mocking, ignoring, and making accusations without evidence are unacceptable behaviors that can harm others emotionally and socially. The series not only represents acts of bullying but also offers solutions by modeling empathy, mutual respect, and the importance of apologizing. Thus, Nussa and Rara proves to be an effective educational medium in supporting character education and promoting early prevention of bullying.

Abstract

Educational leadership plays an important role in improving the quality of education in educational institutions. Educational leaders, especially school principals, are not only responsible for administrative management but also for directing, influencing, and mobilizing all members of the school community to achieve educational goals effectively and efficiently. This article aims to examine the basic concepts of leadership, the characteristics of effective educational leadership, and the implementation of leadership in education to realize educational quality. The method used in this article is a literature review, which involves analyzing various scientific journals, reference books, and other relevant academic sources related to educational leadership. The literature review was conducted to gain a comprehensive understanding of concepts, theories, and findings from previous studies concerning leadership in educational settings. The results of the review indicate that effective educational leadership is characterized by clear vision and mission, the ability to empower teachers and educational staff, effective communication, and the capacity to manage change wisely. Proper leadership implementation can create a conducive learning environment, improve teacher performance, and support the achievement of higher educational quality. Therefore, effective educational leadership is one of the key factors in realizing sustainable educational quality.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the influence of teachers' pedagogical and personal competencies on the learning interest of junior high school students in Pekanbaru City. The study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. There were 35 respondents in this study, selected using non-probability sampling techniques. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software version 22 through several stages, including validity testing, reliability testing, classical assumption testing, multiple linear regression analysis, t-test, F-test, and coefficient of determination test. The results showed that, partially, teachers' pedagogical competence did not have a significant effect on students' interest in learning, while teachers' personal competence had a positive and significant effect on students' interest in learning. However, simultaneously, teachers' pedagogical competence and personal competence had a significant effect on students' interest in learning with a coefficient of determination of 0.496. This indicates that 49.6% of the variation in student learning interest can be explained by these two variables, while the rest is influenced by other factors outside the scope of this study.

Abstract

Using a qualitative approach involving semi-structured interviews with two first-grade elementary school teachers, coupled with participant observation and document analysis, this study demonstrates that strategies such as interactive media and differentiated approaches can improve reading skills by up to 75%, prompting the development of a teacher training module for national implementation. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the various strategies employed by teachers in developing early reading skills in first-grade elementary school students and to assess their effectiveness in improving students' learning motivation, phonics skills, and vocabulary comprehension. This study also aimed to uncover supporting factors and barriers to the implementation of reading learning strategies and develop recommendations for designing curricula and teacher training that are more inclusive and adaptive to basic literacy needs in various educational contexts. This study focused on identifying, analyzing, and evaluating teacher strategies in developing these skills, with an emphasis on their effectiveness in improving student motivation and abilities, and providing recommendations for an inclusive curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to determine and obtain information related to planning, implementation, and supporting and inhibiting factors for learning speaking skills using the storytelling method at SMPN 2 Sambas, especially class VII C.  This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data collection techniques use observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques used are data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The data validity techniques used are source triangulation and member check. The results of the study concluded that:  Planning storytelling as a method of Indonesian language speaking skills for class VII C students at SMPN 2 Sambas in the 2023-2024 academic year: first preparing a teaching module consisting of identifying learning needs and writing learning objectives, second preparing learning strategies, third preparing media and learning tools, third developing teaching materials, and preparing a learning outcome plan. Second,  Implementation of storytelling as a method of Indonesian language speaking skills for class VII C students at SMPN 2 Sambas in the 2023-2024 academic year: the implementation carried out by Indonesian language teachers in learning with the storytelling method is the first by listening when the teacher shows a video, then writing what is obtained from the video, and the last is retelling based on what is listened to and writing the results of the video. Third, Supporting and inhibiting factors for storytelling as a method of Indonesian language speaking skills for class VII C students at SMPN 2 Sambas in the 2023-2024 academic year. supporting factors in learning speaking skills include motivation, student intelligence and adequate school facilities and infrastructure. While the inhibiting factors are introverted individuals, family, and community environment.
