Abstract

Purpose: This study, conducted at Al-Mardhiyyah Al-Islamiyyah Islamic Boarding School, investigates the impact of incorporating nahwu (Arabic syntax) analysis into the traditional reading of Natsar al-Barzanji on students' Arabic reading abilities. Originally part of the "marhabanan" tradition, the reading of Natsar al-Barzanji has been transformed into an educational tool to deepen students' comprehension of Arabic language and nahwu concepts. The objective of this research is to ascertain whether a focused approach to nahwu analysis can effectively enhance students' proficiency in reading Arabic texts. Design/ methods/approach: Employing a descriptive research methodology, the study utilized both qualitative and quantitative data analyses to evaluate the effectiveness of this approach. The quantitative data was collected through assessments measuring students' performance in nahwu analysis and their Arabic reading skills. Findings: Results indicated a significant improvement in Arabic reading abilities among students. The highest score in nahwu analysis was 99, with the lowest at 42, and an average score of 85.66 (standard deviation of 5.59). In Arabic text reading, the highest score recorded was 96, the lowest at 60, with an average of 82.47 (standard deviation of 8.89). The correlation coefficient of 0.66 suggests a meaningful positive impact of nahwu analysis on Arabic reading proficiency. Research implications:  This research demonstrates the beneficial role of integrating linguistic analysis into language education, particularly in enhancing reading abilities. It contributes to the field by highlighting how syntax-focused activities can significantly improve linguistic proficiency. The findings offer valuable insights for educators and curriculum developers in Arabic language education, suggesting that incorporating nahwu analysis can effectively bolster students' comprehension and fluency in Arabic.

Abstract

Purpose: The objective of this research is to define the concept of textual thresholds, as well as their types and functions, before elucidating the most significant external and internal thresholds in Hashem Saleh Manna's Diwan. Design/ methods/approach: This research was conducted using an analytical descriptive method using a content analysis approach with The primary research source is Hashem Saleh Manna's Dīwān (ālġarabaẗ wā al iġtirāb). Findings: This study found that the thresholds of the text are all that surround it, from the title and its color hues to the author's name, sexual indicators, and dedication to the introduction, which opens the door for the reader to dive into the text and reveal its aesthetics. The title is the book's first boundary, allowing the reader to access the text and discover its many dimensions. Hashim Manna's Deewan's beauty is enhanced by the textual threshold, which encourages readers to explore the text's meanings. And the repetitions (questions and exclamations) in these poems in Deewan demonstrate the instability of the psychological state, the poet's numerous queries, his rejection of his reality, which is forced, and his sentiments of alienation and estrangement. The poet helps the addressee feel his dejection (alienation and estrangement) by expressing his emotions. As in other deewan poems, the poet closes his poem with a house where he prays for Muhammad (Pbuh).

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines metathesis in the Quran for morphological changes in its lexicon. Metathesis—reordering phonemes inside words—illuminates the evolution of Arabic and the Quran's exegesis. This study identifies and analyzes Quranic metathesis events to determine their effects on understanding and translation accuracy. Design/ methods/approach: Employing a rigorous qualitative methodology, this study adopts a descriptive analytical approach. It scrutinizes a selection of Quranic words that have undergone metathesis, juxtaposing their original and altered phonemic structures. The inquiry is anchored in primary sources, predominantly the Quranic text, and is further bolstered by an array of exegetical and linguistic scholarly works. Findings: The findings from this investigation reveal that metathesis in the Quran transcends mere linguistic curiosity, bearing significant ramifications for theological discourse and hermeneutic practices. It is observed that these phonemic transformations can subtly, yet substantially, influence the semantic and interpretative dimensions of Quranic verses, notwithstanding the preservation of their intrinsic syntactic integrity in a wider linguistic context. Research implications:  Contributing to the domain of Quranic linguistics, this research underscores the indispensability of linguistic considerations in theological scholarship and Quranic interpretation. It unveils novel perspectives on the intricate interplay between language and meaning within the Quran, highlighting the critical role of nuanced linguistic analysis in the exegesis of sacred texts. Ultimately, the study furnishes profound insights into the symbiotic relationship among language, semantics, and context inherent in the Quran.
