Abstract

Introduction: Osteoporosis is a bone metabolic disorder due to decreased of bone matrix and minerals. Oxidative stress refered as an elevation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the cells causing structural damages and functional loss, is contributed in the process of osteoporosis, but its association still in controversy. Herewith we report the comparison of the plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, one of oxidative stress markers among osteoporotic postmenopausal women and without osteoporosis. Methods: An observational analytic study with cross-sectional approach among 40 postmenopausal women, grouped into two groups, osteoporosis (n=20) and non-osteoporosis (n=20) based on bone mineral density (BMD) score. The plasma MDA levels were measured from venous blood using ELISA. The difference between plasma MDA levels among both groups was analyzed using an independent T-test. Results: The characteristics of demography and clinic among both groups are relatively similar. However, there is a difference in the body weight and BMI. Furthermore, there is no significant differences of MDA levels between the two groups (292,03±61,02ng/ml for group with osteoporosis, and 315,25±73,86ng/ml for non-osteoporosis, p=0,286). Conclusions: There is no significant difference in plasma MDA levels among osteoporosis and non-osteoporosis postmenopausal women.

Abstract

Background Each year 2.1 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer, being the most common type of cancer found and cancer-related cause of death in women worldwide. In Indonesia, especially in Middle Java, more than 80% women diagnosed were already in the late stage. Physiological changes in pregnancy contributes to the delay in diagnosis in pregnant women and pregnancy also resulted in a more complicated approach of therapy. Regarding only few studies were done involving pregnancy with breast cancer, the aim of the study is to provide further knowledge associated with it.Methods Medical records of pregnant women with breast cancer in year 2014-2018 at Dr. Kariadi General Hospital were studied. Results Based on the 3 cases be studied, patients were referred from class B and C hospitals outside of Semarang city showing stage III (33.33%) and IV (66.67%) breast cancers. Two-third of the patients underwent mastectomy previously and one of them also underwent chemotherapy program prior her pregnancy. Comorbidities varied between patients and therapies were adjusted individually and multidisciplinary. Two of the cases went through transperitoneal caesarean section for delivery and one patient with twin pregnancy died by complications and intrauterine foetal death was also determined. Conclusion Overall, all patients were > 35 years old and the breast cancers were diagnosed at late stage. Complications by comorbidities such as anaemia, severe malnutrition, and infection, were found. Two pregnancies which were already in third trimester was terminated and a case of maternal mortality was found. Keywords Breast cancer, pregnancy

Abstract

Background: Diabetic retinopathy is one of the second highest complications of microangiopathy in Indonesia due to diabetes mellitus in the form of damage to retina of the eye and can cause blindness in adults. The management of diabetic retinopathy is done by operative measure, one of which vitrectomy. However, this procedure can lead to an increase in the value of intraocular pressure after surgery. In this study, analysis of differences in intraocular pressure values before and after vitrectomy was carried out in patients with diabetic retinopathy.Research Purpose: To know, compare, and analyze the intraocular pressure values before and after vitrectomy in patients with diabetic retinopathy.Method: The study design was an analytic observation with a study design cross-sectional. Sampling using method consecutive sampling obtained from medical record of 45 diabetic retinopathy patients who underwent vitrectomy at the RSND for the period July-December 2019. After the data was collected, the data were analyzed using the difference Wilcoxon rank test.Result: A total of 45 diabetic retinopathy patients underwent vitrectomy from medical records were dominated by 24 people aged >69 years and 26 female patients. The mean values of intraocular pressure before and one week after vitrectomy were 20.32 + 2.57 mmHg and 23.89 + 9.24 mmHg. The results showed that there was a higher intraocular pressure value after vitrectomy than before vitrectomy in diabetic retinopathy patients (p=0.021) or p,0.05

Abstract

Background: Dental caries is a multifactorial illness caused by bacteria. Lactobacillus acidophilus is one of the bacteria causing caries, where it continues the caries process. That is why the antibacterial agent is needed. A cherry (Muntingia calabura) is fruit having many benefits for health, which one of them is as an antibacterial agent. It contains flavonoid, tannin, alkaloid, and terpenoid, which can function as the antibacterial agent.  Aim :The study aimed to determine the influence of cherry (Muntingia Calabura) extract in preventing the growth of L.acidophilus. Method: True experimental laboratory with a post-test only control group design and 24 samples. Cherries were extracted by using maceration. Then, the phytochemical test was conducted to discover antibacterial substances. The antibacterial test was done by using the dilution method to know Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). Results: Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) could not be seen, and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) showed that all concentration 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, and 50% and positive control were able to kill a bacterium L. acidophilus. Conclusions: There is an influence of cherry extract on the grow

Abstract

Background : There have not been many cases of COVID-19 infection in pregnant women before, during and after gavebirth, so knowledge about COVID-19 infection in pregnancy and the fetus is still limited. This research is expected to provide basic data for further studies and provide new knowledge, especially regarding maternal health related to COVID-19, considering that currently COVID-19 is a new type of virus and is currently a pandemic. Objectives : This study aimed to to determine the effect of educational videos about maternal health related to COVID-19 on the level of knowledge of Medical Students. Methods : This research was a pre-experimental research design design using the form of a "One Group Pretest-Postest only" design (without a control group). Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon Test. Results: The results shows that from 38 respondents after being given education through video media, it was found that 36 (95%) of respondents had increased knowledge, 2 (5%) had fixed knowledge, and there were no respondents whose knowledge had decreased, so there was a significant difference in knowledge before and after being given education through video. Conclusion: The study result showed that there is a significant difference in knowledge about maternal related to COVID19 before and after being given education via video and it can be concluded that there is an effect of educational videos on Maternal Health related to COVID19. Keywords :  Educational Video, Maternal, COVID-19, Knowledge.

Abstract

Background: Semarang city contributes to reducing the number of missing TB cases by using Wajib Notifikasi TB (WiFi TB) application program, which began to be used simultaneously in 2018. WiFi TB application is an application to record and report every TB case found by health facilities, and it is part of Directly Observed Treatment Short-course (DOTS) strategy in monitoring, recording, and reporting component. Aim: Knowing the association between knowledge and the readiness of health workers in implementing WiFi TB program. Methods: The research design used in this study was analytic observational with a cross sectional approach. The qualitative method was also used in this study to know the evaluation about the implementation of WiFi TB program from the subjects. The sample size of this study were 27 subjects using purposive sampling method from each of the 10 Primary Clinics in Semarang city that included inclusion criteria. Data were collected by recording the results of answers to questionnaires and interviews. Fisher exact was used to test the hypothesis. Results: Most of the health workers from each of the 10 Primary Clinics in Semarang city had good readiness in implementing WiFi TB program. The results of this study showed a significant association between knowledge (p = 0,030) and the readiness of health workers in implementing WiFi TB program. Conclusion: There was an association between knowledge and the readiness of health workers in implementing WiFi TB program.Key Words: Tuberculosis, WiFi TB, readiness, knowledge
