Abstract

Imperfective aspects of Arabic are often expressed with imperfect verbs or fiil mudhari, declaring past, present, and future tenses accompanied by lexical additions. This paper aims to reveal the imperfect aspect of non-temporal tenses in translating the book Ar Raḥīqul Makhtūm. The theory used to mark the non-temporal narration by Hooper (1979) and developed by Hoed (1992). This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The data taken could be better in translating the book Ar-Raḥīqul Makhtūm. The novelty of this study lies in the non-temporal epoch of Arabic, which previous researchers have never studied. The non-temporal clause consists of precedence and background in declarative clauses. The results of this study are that imperfective aspects are often composed using imperfect verbs, which act as a background, and perfect verbs act as a foreground in Arabic. Imperfective aspects are expressed, both through verbs and nouns. These sentences produce single or multiple translations by paying attention to the realization of pronouns that produce complex sentences commensurate with the translation results to understand the discourse.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of mind mapping in the learning process of Arabic speaking skills. This research is qualitative research conducted at the Arabic Language Departement (PBA) at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya with a purposive sample of second-semester student. The results of this study showed, that the process of learning Arabic speaking skills using mind mapping in PBA Sunan Ampel is carried out in two stages. The first stage is making a mind map based on the theme that they have listened. In the second stage, after the students have finished making the main idea in the form of the mind mapping, the students practice Arabic speaking based on themes listened and what has been written in mind mapping. The students were able to describe and present themes verbally properly, completely, and coherently with the help of mind mapping. This mind mapping is in the form of mind ideas which are written in curved lines, colorful, and using symbols coherently starting from the first idea to the end of the theme. With this mind mapping, students can easily tell the theme. But there are a few obstacles experienced by students whose vocabulary is still limited. The solution for students who still lack mastery of their vocabulary is by writing important vocabularies related to the theme being studied in each main idea written in the mind mapping. This way is well in helping them to describe and present the theme.

Abstract

Jaulah fi Rubu'I Asia is a travelogue that presents Muhammad Tsabit's journey to a quarter of the Asian continent. His travel notes describe the culture, wonders, and uniqueness found in the countries he visited. The purpose of this study is to analyze the depiction of the world, especially in India, in the book Jaualah fi Rubu'I Asia which written in Arabic, reveal the author's subjectivity to what he experienced during the trip, and reveal the culture of the author and the culture of the area visited and find out the author's reaction or response to the new locations he encountered. The researcher uses Carl Thompson's travel writing theory to study it, which has three basic concepts: reporting the world, revealing the self, and representing the other. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The data in this study are in the form of quotations of phrases, clauses, or sentences in the book Jualah fi Rubu'I Asia. The data collection technique uses the read-write technique. At the same time, the data analysis technique uses the Miles & Huberman analysis model. The result of this research is that the world reported by the author is expressed through the depiction of culture in various aspects. In describing the culture, the author gives his subjectivity through the assumptions and feelings he expresses. Therefore, the author is classified as a romantic traveler. The author uses a colonial discourse strategy in his writing, where the other is both the inferior and superior party.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of the Arabic sentence, its classifications, and methods of analysis, emphasizing the importance of sentence studies for learners of Arabic in understanding meaning and achieving grammatically accurate reading. The research employs a descriptive library research method by reviewing and describing the definitions and classifications of the Arabic sentence proposed by both classical and contemporary linguists, as well as the analytical approaches presented in relevant scholarly literature. The findings reveal notable differences between classical and modern Arab linguists regarding the definition of the Arabic sentence and its relationship to kalām (utterance). The study also identifies a contemporary classification of the Arabic sentence proposed by Muhammad Ibrahim ʿAbādah, which differs from the traditional classifications found in classical Arabic grammar. Furthermore, the research highlights two principal approaches to Arabic sentence analysis: the philosophical approach, which emphasizes grammatical justification and syntactic reasoning, and the descriptive approach, which focuses on describing sentence structures as they naturally occur without concentrating on the grammatical functions of individual words.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the tendency of pesantren based universities in Arabic language learning which is still dominated by reading skills rather than listening skills. The aim of this research is to reveal the reality of learning Arabic listening skills in pesantren-based universities from the perspective of teaching materials including the distribution of courses, credit weights, lecturers, textbooks, objectives, methods, media, exercises, and obstacles to the use of teaching materials by students. This research is a type of qualitative research with a case study approach which conducted at Kiai Abdullah Faqih University. Direct observation techniques, in-depth interviews and documentation were chosen by researchers in collecting data sourced from stakeholders, lecturers and students. The data obtained was then validated using source triangulation techniques and then analyzed using interactive descriptive techniques. The results of this research show that the reality of learning Arabic listening skills in the Arabic language education study program at Kiai Abdullah Faqih University is still not running optimally. This can be seen from the unavailability of special teaching materials for listening skills, which has given rise to several fundamental problems including continuity, interconnectedness, cultural dimensions, and lecturer turnover.

Abstract

In recent years, educators have increasingly emphasized learner-centered activities that actively engage students in the teaching and learning process. Modern instructional strategies encourage students to seek knowledge independently or collaboratively with their peers, enabling them to retain information more effectively beyond the classroom. Consequently, students' roles have shifted from passive recipients of information to active knowledge seekers, while teachers serve as facilitators and guides who direct students to reliable learning resources. Among these strategies, cooperative learning has been widely recognized for its positive impact on students’ academic achievement, as demonstrated by numerous educational studies. This article discusses the implementation of the cooperative learning approach in intensive reading instruction, examines the role of the teacher in facilitating this process, and evaluates the effectiveness of this method in developing students’ intensive reading skills through selected reading texts.
