Abstract

In an effort to support literacy and numeracy empowerment programs, the government abolished the National Exam and replaced it with the Minimum Competency Assessment and Character Survey. There are two basic competencies measured in the AKM, namely literacy and numeracy. The numeracy skills of junior high school students are still not satisfactory, special efforts are needed to improve numeracy skills that keep pace with the times. Currently, education has been integrated with technology, both in terms of learning and the use of media. The underlying factor of this study is that there is a significant decrease in the Education Report Card, in the numeracy indicator on algebraic competence. This research aims to produce digibook media on algebra materials to optimize students' numeracy skills. This research was carried out at SMPN 3 Kawali using the R&D (Research and Development) method with the ADDIE model. There are five stages, namely the Analysis stage, the Design stage, the Development stage, the Implementation stage and the Evaluation stage. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews, validation sheets of material and media experts, student response questionnaires and numeracy ability tests. Based on the results of research, development and discussion, validation results were obtained from material experts and media experts that the digibook in this algebra material was declared valid with the category "very feasible to use". The user's response to the digibook on this algebra material is positive with the category of "excellent". Based on the results of research, development and discussion, it can be concluded that this study produces a digibook product that is very suitable for use in learning algebraic materials with an effectiveness quality (effect size) of 2.28350953 > 1.00 in the "strong effect" criterion.

Abstract

Students’ mathematical problem-solving skills and their level of self-confidence are still relatively low, one of the contributing factors being that mathematics learning is still dominated by a teacher-centered approach. One solution to overcome this problem is to implement the Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) learning model. This study aims to compare the average mathematical problem- solving ability of students taught using the MMP model assisted by Articumath Ratio media with those taught through the direct instruction model, as well as to examine the influence of self-confidence on mathematical problem-solving ability. The research employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design. The study population consisted of seventh-grade students of SMP 2 Gebog, with the sample selected using probability sampling through simple random sampling, resulting in two groups: class VII I and class VII F, totaling 62 students. The independent variables in this study were the MMP learning model and Articumath Ratio media, while the dependent variables were students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities and self-confidence. The initial data analysis included tests of normality, homogeneity, and mean similarity, while the final data analysis used tests of normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis testing. The findings revealed that the average mathematical problem-solving ability of students taught with the MMP model assisted by Articumath Ratio was higher compared to those taught with direct instruction. Moreover, self-confidence positively influenced mathematical problem-solving ability by 82.8% among students taught with the MMP model supported by Articumath Ratio.

Abstract

Numeracy is a basic skill needed by learners to solve problems using the concept of numbers. This research is based on low numeracy skills and mathematical beliefs of VIII A SMPN 1 Bojongasih students. This study aims to determine how the development of Scratch-based teaching materials can improve the numeracy skills and mathematical beliefs of students. This research is a development research using the ADDIE model. At the analysis stage, researchers conducted a needs analysis, curriculum analysis, student character analysis, school environment analysis and technology analysis. At the design stage, researchers collected data, made flowcharts, story boards, collected media making materials, prepared teaching materials, designed test instruments, compiled validation sheets, made user response questionnaires and mathematical belief questionnaires. At the Development stage, researchers produce products that have been designed and validate material experts and media experts with validation results in the “very feasible to use” category. At the Implementation stage, teaching materials are applied to sample class students and get a positive response in the “very good” category. At the evaluation stage, teaching materials are applied in learning activities to 32 students. User response to Scratch-based teaching materials is positive with a “very good” category. N-Gain results obtained in the “medium” category. Effect Size (ES) test results obtained in the “Strong Effect” category. The score of the main dimensions of belief about mathematics education, belief about oneself and belief about the social context is in the “High” category. So it can be concluded that Scratch-based teaching materials can improve students' numeracy skills and mathematical beliefs.

Abstract

This study began with the importance of developing students' creativity in solving mathematical story problems. The learning process generally focuses on textbooks and solving problems using the formulas available in them, tending to limit students' creative thinking skills. This results in students being less trained in finding various alternative solutions in dealing with contextual problems, especially in the material of sequences and series. The purpose of this study was to complete the measure of creativity of Islamic-Islamic high schools in mathematical narrative resolution based on higher order thinking about thinking. The subjects of this study consisted of five students of Class VIII, whose middle skills were classified. The results showed that there was a relationship between students' creative mathematical skills in solving problems. The analysis of five students working on higher-order thinking skills problems revealed significant variation in their analytical comprehension and creativity. The first and second students demonstrated low levels of analytical comprehension. The third student had a fairly good analytical comprehension, but still showed limitations in creativity. The fourth student demonstrated better development in terms of conceptual understanding, analytical skills, and problem-solving creativity. The fifth student demonstrated the most outstanding ability, not only possessing a high level of conceptual understanding and analytical skills, but also being able to solve problems using creative, efficient, and easily understood strategies.

Abstract

This research is a classroom action research. The results of statistics learning (mean, median and mode) in class VIII A students of SMP PGRI 05 Tirtoyudo show that many still have scores below the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM), especially in completing practice questions, so this research aims to improve the learning outcomes of class VIII A students by using quizizz media. The subjects in this study were class VIII A students at SMP PGRI 05 Tirtoyudo. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was carried out in two cycles. Cycle 1 and cycle 2 went through 4 stages, namely (1) action planning, (2) action implementation, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. The results of the study showed that the mathematics learning outcomes of class VIII A students of SMP PGRI 05 Tirtoyudo increased after using problem-based learning (PBL) methods assisted by quizizz media. This is indicated by an increase in the achievement of the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM). Based on the observation results, an increase in the percentage of learning outcomes from cycle I to cycle II was obtained from 50% to 85% so that mathematics learning at SMP PGRI 05 Tirtoyudo was said to be successful.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the improvement of sixth-grade elementary students’ basic statistical abilities through the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach based on local cultural context. The learning location was purposively selected at Patirtaan Ngawonggo Site, a historical place in Malang Regency that offers a natural atmosphere and authentic learning experiences. This research employed a mixed-method approach with an exploratory case study design, focusing on both the process and outcomes of contextual learning. Qualitative data were collected through observation, field notes, documentation, and reflective interviews, while quantitative data were obtained from students’ pre-test and post-test results on basic statistics. Data analysis utilized two techniques: qualitative descriptive analysis to interpret the contextual learning process, and simple descriptive statistics to compare the mean scores of students’ pre-test and post-test results. The findings revealed that students’ direct engagement in contextual learning within a local cultural environment significantly contributed to the enhancement of their understanding of basic statistical concepts, including mean, median, and mode. The average pre-test score of 58.5 increased to 90 in the post-test, indicating an improvement of 53.85%. In addition to cognitive gains, students also demonstrated higher enthusiasm, focus, and reflective awareness of the relevance of statistics in daily life. Thus, the implementation of the RME approach in the cultural setting of Patirtaan Ngawonggo proved to be effective in meaningfully improving students’ basic statistical skills, while simultaneously strengthening the integration of mathematics learning with local cultural preservation.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' mathematical connection abilities in solving mathematical problems in terms of Adversity Quotient (AQ) levels and gender. Mathematical connection ability is a crucial competency in mathematics learning that enables students to relate mathematical concepts, as well as connect mathematics to other disciplines and real-life situations. Adversity Quotient, categorized into climbers, campers, and quitters, reflects students' persistence in facing challenges, while gender influences students' approaches to problem-solving. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach involving eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Pakel. Data were collected through mathematical problem-solving tests and in-depth interviews. The findings indicate that students with high AQ (climbers), both male and collected through mathematical problem-solving tests and in-depth interviews. The findings indicate that students with high AQ (climbers), both male and female, demonstrate a more comprehensive conceptual understanding and stronger mathematical connection abilities compared to campers and quitters. Additionally, differences in problem-solving approaches were observed between male and female students. These results have important implications for educators in designing instructional strategies that take into account AQ and gender to effectively enhance students' mathematical connection skills.
