Abstract

The research’s aim to design class VII mathematics activity designs and determine the validity of STEAM mitigation-based activity designs to improve creative thinking skills. The method used in this research was research and development (R&D). The design development process in this activity adopts a 4D development model which consists of 4 stages, namely Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The result is an activity design that can be used as a guide for teachers and students. This design then went through validation stages, namely design validation and practicality test questionnaire validation involving 5 validators, namely, 2 mathematics education lecturers, 1 SEAQIM person, and 2 mathematics teachers. The novelty of this study is the application of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) development model which focuses on activity-based mitigation in mathematics learning to improve students' creative thinking abilities. This research produces activity designs that are validated by experts in the field of mathematics education and teaching practice, ensuring that the designs are not only theoretical but also practical and ready for use in the classroom. This approach offers a new way to make mathematics learning more relevant and interesting for students, while emphasizing the importance of creative thinking in real contexts.

Abstract

Mathematical connection ability is one of the important mathematical skills for students to connect mathematical concepts with various contexts inside and outside mathematics. The purpose of this study was to describe the mathematical connection ability of students in class VIII B SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Batu based on high, medium, and low categories in solving mathematical problems. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type that will present the results of the analysis in the form of facts or conditions of the mathematical connection ability of students in class VIII SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Batu in solving mathematical problems. The data collection techniques used are documents, paired tests, and paired interviews so that this research will reveal how students solve math problems given in pairs. Data analysis techniques used include data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the analysis of this study found that high category subjects met 58.5%, medium category subjects met 41.6%, and low category subjects met 25% of the indicators of mathematical connection ability in solving mathematical problems. This study recommends further study of students' mathematical connection ability in solving mathematical problems both individually and collaboratively based on factors that influence students' mathematical abilities.

Abstract

This research aims at bibliometric analysis so that data can be obtained that can be used as a reference regarding the diversity of ethnomathematics in geometric concepts that have been explored through research to be developed in mathematics learning. The novelty obtained from this research is that it is able to provide an overview and reveal the trend position of ethnomathematics research on geometry material in Jember. The benefit obtained can be used as a reference for learning process activities carried out at school. This research uses bibliometric visualization and bibliometric analysis to provide  a  structural  overview  of  the field of  qualitative  research. Bibliometrics uses the Publish or Perish (PoP) and VOSviewer applications to obtain a research trend database. The research results show that the concept of geometry is found in several publications related to ethnomathematics in Jember. Applications of concepts related to this research are triangles, symmetry, parallel lines, straight lines, curved lines, and applied to batik motifs.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the results of the analysis of the ability of mathematical reasoning in understanding the building material of flat side spaces reviewed from the learning style of high school students. The study participants consisted of four students who were randomly selected at some high school in Java Island. The instruments used are mathematical reasoning skills tests, learning style lifts, and interviews. Based on the results of the study, it was found that students' ability to reason mathematically varied according to the interests of each student's learning style. Students with an auditorium learning style tend to have high reasoning skills, they are superior in indicators presenting mathematical statements, giving reasons or evidence against the truthfulness of answers or declarations, drawing conclusions/making generalizations. Therefore, for future researchers to study further with a larger number of participants, and the research is done offline so the results are more valid.

Abstract

This study is an ex post facto research aimed at determining the influence of m|athem|atic|al resilience |and le|arning environment on the m|athem|atics le|arning outcomes of students |at SMP Negeri 29 S|am|arind|a for the |ac|ademic ye|ar 2023/2024. In this study, there |are two independent v|ari|ables, n|amely m|athem|atic|al resilience |and le|arning environment, |and one dependent v|ari|able, which is m|athem|atics le|arning outcomes. The popul|ation of this study consists of |all eight-gr|ade students |at SMP Negeri 29 S|am|arind|a for the |ac|ademic ye|ar 2023/2024. S|ampling w|as done using |a prob|ability s|ampling technique with |a tot|al s|ample size of 163 students. The rese|arch instruments used were questionn|aires for m|athem|atic|al resilience |and le|arning environment, |and |a le|arning outcomes test. The d|at|a |an|alysis used in this study includes descriptive statistics and inferential statistics in the form of multiple linear regression analysis. The results of the descriptive analysis show that the average score for the mathematical resilience questionnaire falls within the moderate category with a percentage of 36.2%. The average score for the learning environment questionnaire also falls within the moderate category with a percentage of 37.4%. Additionally, the average mathematics learning outcomes are in the moderate category with a percentage of 41.4%. The results of inferential analysis indicate that mathematical resilience and learning environment have an influence on the mathematics learning outcomes of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 29 Samarinda for the academic year 2023/2024.

Abstract

Algebra is basic material in mathematics lessons which has an important role and needs to be mastered by students. Therefore, students, especially MTs/SMP students, must understand algebra concepts well. This research aims to determine the types of errors made by students and the factors that cause students to make these errors. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive type. Meanwhile, the research subjects were class VII students at MTs An-Nahdloh Candibinangun. This research took the form of 2 tests, namely an algebraic arithmetic operation test and story questions. The results of the research showed that the types of errors made by students in completing algebraic calculation operation questions were 61.42%, the factors causing errors were students' lack of understanding of the concept of variables and lack of focus on different calculation operations. Meanwhile, the story test questions showed that the types of errors made by students were conclusion errors, namely 28.57%, the factor causing errors was because students found it difficult to capture important information in the questions.

Abstract

This research was a development of the theory of FPB and KPK with the aim of studying the relationship between FPB and KPK on integers referring to the concept of divisibility and focusing on the analysis of theorems related to the relationship between FPB and KPK along with their proofs to validate the truth of the theorem. The objects in this study are FPB and KPK in the scope of the integer number system. This type of research is qualitative research by conducting a literature review process on the concept of FPB and KPK and then developing it to produce a new theorem related to the relationship between FPB and KPK and then proving its truth. The results of this study obtained one theorem related to the relationship between FPB and KPK on integers so that it can add to the knowledge that can be used as additional material in learning Number Theory.

Abstract

This research is a combination of visual and spatial thinking abilities which are very closely related. Visual-spatial thinking abilities involve the ability to understand and manipulate spatial relationships between objects, which includes the ability to visualize objects in space, understand orientation and position, and plan movement or changes in three-dimensional space. This research aims to analyze students' visual-spatial thinking abilities in solving ethnomathematics-based problems. The research subjects were taken from four class IX students, two students with high visual-spatial thinking abilities and two students with low visual-spatial thinking abilities. The research method in this study uses descriptive with a qualitative approach. The instruments used to collect data in this research were test and interview techniques. Furthermore, the data that has been obtained will be analyzed to determine the level of students' visual-spatial thinking abilities, the results of students' question answers will be strengthened by the results of interview answers conducted by researchers with selected subjects. Based on the results of this research, it was found that there were two students with high visual-spatial thinking abilities as indicated by the results of tests and interviews who had met the three indicators of visual ability, and students with low visual-spatial thinking abilities who had not been able to pass several of the ability visual indicators.

Abstract

This research analyzes a continually evolving culture deeply ingrained in every region of Indonesia. Jember Regency, located in East Java, boasts a rich tapestry of cultures encompassing customs, food, language, games, and more. This research uses qualitative. The research focused on batik, specifically analyzing the geometric transformations within Labako batik motifs. These transformations include translation, reflection, rotation, and dilation. A total of eight motifs were identified from four Labako batik cloths, featuring elements like water hyacinth plants, bamboo, tomato and tobacco leaves, winged beans, and coffee and cocoa fruits and leaves. This research seeks to identify geometric concepts within each motif for use as teaching materials, indirectly promoting batik preservation and supporting Labako batik craftsmen. It is also hoped that this research can be used as a reference for future studies.

Abstract

This study aims to identify learning obstacles faced by students on the material of arithmetic operations of algebraic forms through mathematical problem solving. Student learning obstacle in this study were obtained through analyzing the test results of algebraic form calculation operation material through mathematical problem solving questions and interviews with students. The research method used is a qualitative method with a case study approach. The participants of this study involved 6 students in one of the high schools in Bekasi City, West Java Province. The results of this study indicate that some students experience learning obstacle in solving problems of arithmetic operations of algebraic forms through mathematical problem solving. The identified learning obstacle include (1) conceptual ontogenic obstacle, (2) instrumental ontogenic obstacle, (3) psychological ontogenic obstacle, (4) epistemological obstacle, and (5) potential didactic obstacle.
