Abstract

One of the problems often faced by students is the low ability to calculate multiplication operations. One of the causes of this condition is still a lack of understanding of the two-digit multiplication concept and the procedure for working on it. In line with this, the existence of this study is expected to overcome the low ability to calculate multiplication operations of students by applying the lattice method. The aim of this study is describe of using the lattice method in overcoming the low ability to calculate multiplication operations. This research is a qualitative study. The stages in this study are divided into several treatments, where each treatment students get treatment from the introduction of the lattice method to use the advanced lattice method. The results of this study show that students are very interested in the new methods they know. They were able to complete independently the multiplication operation after going through four treatments that had been given. At the end of the treatment the average student achieved was 84.30 with a percentage of completeness reaching 96.56% and his numeracy ability increased by 0.81 (high category).

Abstract

This study describes the role of teachers in improving the ability to determine the worth fractions in elementary students by using domino card game media. This type of research is classroom action research. The approach taken is a qualitative approach. The results showed a change in students abilities for the better. In the pre-cycle activities there are still many students who don’t understand the purpose of the worth fractions. After being given dominoes media and sample, capacity building is shown in learning cycle one. Four children from all students have started to be able to determine the worth fractions. This was repeated even experienced an increase in learning cycle two. Nearly three-fourths of the students in 4th grade are able to determine worth fractions, while the rest reach the KKM limit. The conclusion of this study is that dominoes media can be used to improve the ability to determine worth fractions in elementary students.

Abstract

The low learning outcomes of students in VII-A grade of SMP AlIkhwan Salama in Bima City is suspected that one of the causes is that there are still many students who experience difficulties in understanding the mathematical concepts being thought. As well as in delivering subject matter, more teachers apply teaching methods that are monotonous and less varied. As a result students become less active and only accept what is given by the teacher and do the assignment in accordance with what is asked by the teacher. Therefore, teachers need to find better learning methods so that the learning process that is endeavored can improve student learning outcomes, one of which is the EPA method. The purpose of this study is to improve student learning outcomes through the EPA method. This type of research is classroom action research (CAR) which takes place in three cycles. This study uses the EPA method (Exploration, Introduction and Application of concept). Data collection techniques used were tests and observation. Data analysis techniques using qualitative analysis. Based on the results of the study showed an increase in mastery learning from the average value of students in the first cycle of 70,51 with a percantage of 74,28% and the average value in the second cycle of 73,82 with a percentage of 80% and the average value in the third cycle of 80,05 with percentage of 88,57%. So it can be concluded that the application of the EPA (Exploration, Introduction, and Application of concepts)learning method on the subject matter of quadrilateral can improve mathematics learning outcomes of students.

Abstract

The study aims to describe the understanding of group concepts in prospective mathematics teacher with high mathematical abilities. This research is a descriptive qualitative research, with a research subject is a prospective mathematics teacher who have taken group theory courses. The subjects were selected according to the criteria of having high mathematical abilities based on mathematical ability tests, having good communication skills and being able to explain. Data collection was carried out through providing group concept understanding tests followed by interviews. Written tests and interviews were conducted twice for the purposes of triangulating data through time triangulation. Regarding to the discussion section, it can be summarized that subjects with high mathematical abilities can define and show a group fulfilling the traits in detail.

Abstract

Mathematics subjects, often unknowingly, clash the teacher in instilling character education. Not infrequently, in the process of learning mathematics, the teacher gives a bad character investment. Call it in the subtraction of natural numbers. Often teachers use the word 'borrow'. In fact, he never returned the loan. Then the purpose of the research conducted with this classroom action research method is to improve the learning process so that it no longer instills bad character. The researcher uses lego media as a model of the enumerator in instilling the concept of subtracting natural numbers. The results obtained that by using lego media, students can reduce natural numbers without making mistakes in concepts and learning outcomes obtained in classical completeness is 84.6%. Through this learning, even the cultivation of bad characters can be eliminated.

Abstract

Lack of student interest in learning mathematics is a scourge that needs immediate action. In this study, researchers used the media geoboard and rubber bands as a tool to increase interest in learning. The study was conducted with Classroom Action Research which was successfully completed in two cycles. The results of this study are increased student interest in mathematics before taking action only 12 students, after cycles I and II, made 20 students interested in a total of 22 students. Increasing learning outcomes and concept understanding was very good. At the end of the action in the second cycle it was found that all students had understood the concept of calculating area and circumference of rectangular and triangular shapes.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the application of Reciprocal Teaching with role cards to improve student mathematical reasoning abilities on trigonometry material. Mathematical reasoning is thinking about mathematical problems logically to solve a problem and give reasons for a solution. One of the lessons learned to overcome the low mathematical reasoning ability is the learning of Reciprocal Teaching models using role cards. The steps of Reciprocal Teaching activities include question generating, clarifying, predicting, and summarizing. Before the Reciprocal Teaching steps are carried out, students are given a role card to determine the students who become model teachers. This research is a classroom action research. Based on the research that has been done, it is known that the application of the Reciprocal Teaching model increases the mathematical reasoning ability of students in XI grade IPA 2 of SMA Negeri 8 Malang on the Trigonometry with an increase in class average from initial 73 to 60 in cycle I and to 73 in cycle II. In addition, the average percentage increase in students' mathematical reasoning also increased from 60% to 73%.
