Abstract

One of the main means to enhance student’s learning activities is by implementing technology in their learning activities. Nowadays, many universities in the world had applied this method due to many benefits that its offer. Universitas Terbuka (UT) is one of distance learning institution in Indonesia that had applied this method for its student. Therefore, this research intends to investigate the perceptions of students and tutors in utilizing the features and facilities of Office365 in online tutorial and online practicum. Furthermore, the perceptions of students and tutors that was analyzed include the use of standard applications contained in Moodle and their expectations in utilizing Office365 features and facilities for online tutorials and online practicum. This study employs online survey that consists of 11 items. The perception of student regarding the Office365 features is influenced by age, gender, education, online tutorial training, and online tutorial activities. The students’ responses of Office365 facilities are affected by age, gender, education, employment, training and online tutorial activities. Office365’s features and facilities are most likely to influence the effectiveness of the distance learning process since students have the opportunity to interact with their teachers, peers, and learning materials. Moreover, the Office365 enable student to access the material through this facility. The other benefit is the existence of forum that could be used as discussions means between student and lecturer. Hence we recommend that all online activities should be designed to achieve the optimization of distance learning such as strengthening the online tutorial and online practicum, improving the ICT competence of academic staff and their involvement in online tutorial and online practicum, improving services to all UT’s stakeholders and developing an upgrade of standard application training of Moodle and Office365

Abstract

A lecturer must continue to develop his knowledge in a sustainable manner which is facilitated by the higher education by providing complete, relevant, and up-to-date learning resources. However, before providing learning resources, it is necessary to first analyze the needs of learning resources. This study aims to obtain information about the trends in the types of learning resources required by the Jakarta State University (UNJ) lecturers who support Information and Communication Technology (ICT) -based learning. The study was conducted using a survey method using a questionnaire filled in by 114 lecturers from 7 faculties at UNJ. Lecturers at each faculty tend to choose different types of learning sources, but video and PowerPoint (PPt) are the most needed learning resources. The development of learning resources in tertiary institutions must consider the learning resources needs of lecturers at each faculty, not only as a whole at the university level.

Abstract

This study aims to produce a product design and development in the form of a guidebook to increase the knowledge of Indonesian Workers (TKI) with the aim of Malaysia. The model used in this research is Thiagarajan's research and development (RnD). Data collection techniques using questionnaires, observation and pre-posttest. Data obtained through needs analysis by providing a pretest, observation, and questionnaires. Expert validation with a questionnaire instrument to assess the manual prototype by the media expert, material expert, and TKI. Quantitative data were obtained from the results of the pretest and posttest to Indonesian migrant workers and questionnaires for media validation and responses from migrant workers. The qualitative data analysis used a pre-experimental design with one group pretest-postest design. The results of the research resulted in a design and guidebook product that had proven its effectiveness in increasing the knowledge of TKI

Abstract

The objectives of this study were (1) to measure the transformation of mobile learning devices in elementary schools in multi grade classes, (2) to examine the visibility of the development of Podcast devices for Indonesian language learning in multi grade elementary schools and (3) to assess the probability of using video technology tools on demand (VOD) on Indonesian language learning in elementary schools in multi grade classes. The method used is ethnographic study with triangulation of data in the form of interviews, the results of observations and technology assessment for Indonesian language learning in multi grade-based elementary schools using Mobile devices. The results of this study are (1) Mobile learning devices, especially television can be used for multi grade learning, (2) podcast device development also has the opportunity to be further developed, and (3) tools for learning are more related to the process of developing mobile devices in schools basic. Conclusions from this study, the development of Mobile devices for Indonesian Language in Elementary Schools needs to be done, taking into account the visibility of the learning device. It is recommended to the stakeholders to optimize the Indonesian Language device for multi grade class.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether lecturers perceived as the best or worst based on their nonverbal communication behaviors are influenced by students’ cultural backgrounds. Employing an ex post facto design, the independent variable was the type of lecturers’ nonverbal communication behavior, categorized into the Best Lecturer and the Worst Lecturer. The dependent variable was students’ perceptions of lecturers’ nonverbal communication behavior, with students’ ethnic backgrounds (Javanese, East Nusa Tenggara, and Madurese) serving as the moderating variable. The participants were students from four study programs. Data were collected using the Nonverbal Immediacy Measure (NIM) questionnaire, with 203 valid responses analyzed. A mean difference test was used to examine perceptual differences, and the Kruskal–Wallis One-Way ANOVA was employed to test the hypotheses. The results indicate that there is no significant difference in students’ perceptions of lecturers’ nonverbal communication behavior between the best and worst lecturers across different cultural backgrounds.

Abstract

Implementation of the 2013 curriculum in elementary schools is applied using a thematic approach. The provision of teaching materials for teachers is one aspect that must be fulfilled by the government and it is still inadequate. This study aims to develop thematic teaching materials for teacher companion with a webbed model. The procedure for developing teaching materials uses the ADDIE development model which includes five stages, namely: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The thematic model used to design teaching materials is the Spider Web Model or the Webbed Model. The data collected aims to see the feasibility of the product as teaching material and field trials in the learning class. The questionnaire data came from content / material experts, media experts, design experts, colleagues, and 24 students. The data analysis technique is descriptive. The results of the review of the feasibility of development products are as follows: 1) Review of Indonesian language education content / material experts by 95%, review of mathematics education experts by 98%, reviews of learning media experts state the suitability of the media used by development, and reviews of instructional design experts by 85% . Product trials with students and student responses through questionnaires get very good responses. So it can be concluded that the product that has been developed is suitable for use as a teacher companion book in teaching. Suggestions for using this product are that educators develop innovative ideas so that various themes can be developed according to student needs and the availability of a learning environment at school. This teaching material product can be used as an example for educators to develop their own teaching materials.

Abstract

This study analyzes the role of a teacher in managing the class which is described in the film Beyond Blackboard using Sanjaya's (2006) classroom management theory. A qualitative approach is used in this study to describe the observed phenomenon, where data is taken from the film documentation Beyond Blackboard in the form of speech and scenes of Stacey Bess' main role. The data were collected by doing several steps: watching movies, finding information about the teacher's role, and classifying the utterances and scenes that contained the teacher's role. The results of the study revealed that there are seven teacher roles that are applied by Stacey Bess, namely the teacher as a source of information, facilitator, manager, demonstrator, supervisor, motivator, and evaluator. Researchers found that the role most often applied in this film is the role of the teacher as manager. In addition, Stacey is also able to implement and combine these roles well. The teacher's role that is played properly is manifested in the form of Stacey's role in building good relationships with students, minimizing disruption in the learning process, increasing student achievement, and inspiring students to change their negative behavior.

Abstract

WebQuest is a type of inquiry-oriented web-based learning by utilizing existing resources on the Internet. Bernie Dodge and Tom March created WebQuest in 1995 or the end of the twentieth century. The twenty-first century experienced rapid changes in economy and technology. These changes have an impact on the need for skills in the workplace. This article aims to discuss Webquest WebQuest which was created 23 years ago to answer the challenges of twenty-first century learning.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are 1) to develop products from LMS Chamilo that can be used in civic education courses that are suitable for use in learning based on alpha and beta tests. 2) Determine the effectiveness of product use in the citizenship course. The research method used in this research is research and development (R&D). The results of the feasibility of this product are based on the alpha test (alpha test) on the material expert of 3.25 which is included in the "good" category, while for the media expert it is 4.42 which is included in the "very good" category. In the beta test (beta test) of 3.93 which is included in the "good" category. From the results of the due diligence it can be stated that the product developed has met the elements suitable for use in the learning process. There was an increase in the achievement of student cognitive learning outcomes after using chamilo of 10.13. The pretest mean score was 60.13 and posttest 70.26. From the results of this study it can be concluded that learning using chamilo has been effective.
