Abstract

Long-term use of synthetic antidiabetic drugs often causes side effects, prompting the search for safer herbal alternatives. Ageratum conyzoides and Cyperus rotundus are known for their antihyperglycemic properties, but studies on their combination remain limited. To evaluate the antihyperglycemic effect of combined ethanol extracts of A. conyzoides leaves and C. rotundus rhizomes in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Male white rats were divided into nine groups: control, single extract, and combination treatments (100:200 and 150:500 mg/kg BW). Treatments were given orally for 15 days, and blood glucose levels were measured periodically. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test. The combination of A. conyzoides and C. rotundus (150:500 mg/kg BW) significantly reduced blood glucose levels, comparable to glimepiride (p < 0.05 vs. negative control; p > 0.05 vs. positive control). Single extracts showed moderate effects in a dose-dependent manner. The combination of A. conyzoides and C. rotundus extracts exhibited synergistic antihyperglycemic activity, suggesting potential as a safe phytotherapeutic alternative for diabetes management.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is a health problem with a morbidity and mortality rate that ranks among the 10 most common diseases among women. The high incidence of cervical cancer is caused by several factors, such as a lack of knowledge and motivation regarding cervical cancer prevention. This study applies the wish and drive method with a local wisdom approach, which is part of the behavioral change communication approach used in the context of health, especially in primary health care. The aims of this study is to prove the effectiveness of the wish and drive method with a local wisdom approach on the knowledge and motivation of WUS in cervical cancer screening. The research design is a quasi-experiment with a pretest and posttest two-group design. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data analysis using univariate and bivariate analysis: Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. There were 90 women of childbearing age who were divided into an intervention group and a control group. A questionnaire was used to assess women's knowledge and motivation regarding cervical cancer screening is valid and reliable. Statistical analysis results showed that the wish and drive method with a local wisdom approach was effective in increasing the knowledge (p value=0.00) and motivation (p value=0.00) of women of childbearing age in preventing cervical. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that the wish and drive method with a local wisdom approach be used as an alternative nursing intervention to address the problem of women's lack of knowledge and motivation in preventing cervical cancer.

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital technology has influenced the behavior of toddlers, including the increasing use of gadgets from an early age. This study aimed to determine the relationship between parents’ educational level and gadget use among toddlers in Gatak Village, Klaten. This research employed a quantitative method with a correlational cross-sectional design. A total of 69 respondents were selected using purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria of parents with children aged 1–3 years. Data was collected through questionnaires assessing parental education level and the frequency of gadget use by children, the questionnaires had been tested for validity and reliability. The validity test yielded correlation coefficients ranging from 0.726 to 0.876, while the reliability test using Cronbach’s Alpha produced a value of 0.742, indicating that the instrument was both valid and reliable. The results showed that most parents had a high school education (44.9%) and that children’s gadget use was mainly at a low level (47.8%), with a p-value of 0.167, indicating no significant relationship p between parental education level and children’s gadget use. It can be concluded that formal education does not directly influence gadget use intensity among toddlers; instead, parental supervision and digital literacy play more essential roles.

Abstract

Young women with breast cancer experience complex psychosocial challenges resulting from physical, emotional, and social changes during treatment, which significantly affect their quality of life (QoL). Objective to identify and analyze psychosocial aspects influencing the quality of life among young women with breast cancer. This systematic review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Literature searches were conducted across five databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Sage Journals, and Taylor & Francis) for studies published between 2015 and 2025. Inclusion criteria included young women (≤40 years) diagnosed with breast cancer, using quantitative observational designs (cross-sectional or prospective cohort). A total of 11 eligible studies from 5761 articles were included and analyzed narratively. Five major themes influencing QoL were identified: (1) psychological distress (anxiety, depression, and fear of cancer recurrence); (2) sexual dysfunction and negative body image; (3) reproductive and fertility concerns; (4) social support and partner relationships; and (5) long-term QoL decline up to five years post-diagnosis, which is improved with strong social support and adaptive coping strategies. Psychosocial factors have a significant impact on the quality of life of young women with breast cancer. A holistic nursing approach that integrates psychological, social, and family support is essential to enhance emotional well-being and improve the long-term quality of life of these patients.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that remains a major health problem in Indonesia and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The prevalence of hypertension in the elderly continues to increase, making self-management of this disease very crucial. One approach that has been proven effective is self-management, that includes adherence to medication, blood pressure monitoring, diet management, physical activity, and stress management. This study have to analyze the connection among demographic factors and the stage of self-management among elderly hypertensive patients at the Gabus District Health Center. The study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of all elderly hypertensive patients registered at the Gabus District Health Center. Purposive sampling was used, resulting in a total sample of 96 respondents. Data were collected using a questionnaire covering demographic characteristics and self-management components. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to summarize sample characteristics, Chi-square tests to examine relationships between variables, and logistic regression to identify the most dominant factors influencing self-management among elderly hypertensive patients. The outcome showed that age, education, income, in the process of of hypertension, and the presence of complications were substantially associated by the stage of self-management (p < 0.05). by the logistic regression test, income was proven to be the most dominant variable affecting self-management in elderly people by hypertension (OR = 7.082; 95% CI = 1.806-27.769). Health workers need to have appropriate education and support, whilst future researchers can having more effective self-management programs by considering these factors.

Abstract

Menstrual disorders are commonly experienced by adolescent girls and may occur due to various factors, including hormonal production, stress levels, nutritional status, daily activities, and early age at menarche. Dysmenorrhea, or menstrual pain, is classified as a type of menstrual disorder. Non-pharmacological or complementary therapies can be provided to help reduce dysmenorrhea.  This research aims to determine the impact of providing interventions in the form of slow stroke back massage, counterpressure massage, and cinnamon aromatherapy for adolescent girls experiencing menstrual pain. The researcher employed a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design, involving adolescent females divided into two groups. The researcher employed a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group, involving female adolescents as the study population and those experiencing dysmenorrhea as the sample. The participants were divided into two groups: an intervention group (n = 10), which received the treatment, and a control group (n = 10), which did not receive any intervention. A non-random sampling technique was used to recruit the participants. To measure pain intensity scores, a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) was used. The collected data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney test. The findings indicate that the intervention administered to the experimental group was effective in reducing pain, as demonstrated by the Mann–Whitney test comparing post-test pain scores between the experimental and control groups (U = 7.0, Z = −3.539, p < 0.001). The median pain score was lower in the experimental group (3; IQR 2–4) than in the control group (4; IQR 3–5). Interventions in the form of slow stroke back massage, counterpressure massage, and cinnamon aromatherapy were proven to be effective in reducing menstrual pain among adolescent girls.

Abstract

Childbirth is an experience that has physical, social, and psychological impacts. One of the psychological changes that occur in pregnant women is the emergence of anxiety. The purpose of this case study is to explain the effect of Al-Qur'an murottal therapy in reducing anxiety levels in mothers giving birth. This study used a quasi-experimental method. The research instrument used the Perinatal Anxiety Screening Scale (PASS) questionnaire to evaluate the pre-test and post-test given intervention. The PASS questionnaire has been proven to be valid (validity value 0,4–0,7) and has very good reliability with Cronbach's Alpha 0,98. The data was analyzed descriptively by comparing anxiety scores before and after therapy and then calculating the percentage reduction in anxiety. The results of the PASS scale before the Al-Qur'an murottal therapy at the first meeting with a score of 35 (severe anxiety), while after the Al-Qur'an murottal therapy at the first meeting for 30 minutes obtained a PASS score of 29 (moderate anxiety). At the second meeting the results of the PASS before the Al-Qur'an murottal therapy with a score of 28 (moderate anxiety), while after the Al-Qur'an murottal therapy with a PASS score of 18 (moderate anxiety). This study provides information on how to reduce non-pharmacological anxiety levels with Al-Quran murottal therapy with Surah Ar-Rahman.

Abstract

Depression significantly impacts multiple aspects of life, including relationships, academic or work performance, and overall well-being. Individuals who have experienced abuse, severe loss, or other stressful events are more susceptible to depression. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of iron and folic acid supplementation on the mental health of adolescents. This research is a quantitative research using pre-experimental design, one-group pre-post test design research type. The sampling method in this study used purposive sampling with a sample size of 30 people. Researchers collected respondent data by gathering them in one room, providing an initial questionnaire. The researcher explained how to take Fe and folic acid tablets to the respondents. Respondents were instructed to write down the date in a table provided by the researcher after taking their iron tablets as scheduled. The researcher and respondents agreed on a meeting date one month later to complete the same questionnaire as the first. The results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test statistical test show that the Asymp.Sig. (2-tailed) value is 0.001, because the significance value of the test results is 0.001 (α <0.05), so the hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the hypothesis (H0) is rejected. So it can be concluded that there is a significant influence on the provision of Iron and Folic Acid supplementation on adolescent mental health. The conclusion of this study is that respondents who adhere to the schedule for taking Fe and Folic Acid tablets have a good impact on mental health.
