Abstract

Anemia remains one of the major nutritional problems commonly affecting adolescent girls, with a relatively high prevalence in many countries, including Indonesia. This condition is primarily caused by inadequate iron intake and low adherence to Iron-Folic Acid (IFA) or iron tablet supplementation programs. Limited knowledge and low interest among adolescents in nutrition-related information contribute to poor preventive behaviors. Traditional educational methods, such as lectures, tend to be one-way and less engaging for this age group. In contrast, audiovisual media are considered more effective because they combine visual and auditory elements that make health messages easier to understand and remember. This study aims to review the effectiveness of audiovisual media in preventing anemia among adolescent girls based on recent research findings. This study employed a literature review method by searching articles from Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and PubMed databases using the keywords “audiovisual education,” “anemia prevention,” and “adolescent girls.” The review process was conducted systematically through four main stages: organization, synthesis, identification, and advanced analysis. Articles were selected based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, including publication year (2020–2025), participants aged 13–19 years, and a focus on the effectiveness of audiovisual media in anemia prevention. Five eligible articles were thematically analyzed to draw conclusions regarding the impact of audiovisual media on adolescents’ knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors toward anemia. The review findings indicated that the use of audiovisual media consistently improved adolescents’ knowledge, attitudes, and motivation in anemia prevention. Several studies reported an increased in adherence to iron supplementation following audiovisual-based educational interventions. This medium was also perceived as more engaging and easier to comprehend compared to conventional approaches. Audiovisual media serve as an effective, engaging, and interactive educational tool to enhance knowledge and promote preventive behaviors against anemia among adolescent girls.

Abstract

Depression is a mental health disorder that is more commonly experienced in adulthood. At this stage, individuals begin to experience various changes, both physically and in terms of their social roles, interpersonal relationships, and lifestyle patterns. These changes can affect emotional balance and increase the risk of depression. One non-pharmacological intervention that can help overcome depression is Tai Chi. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Tai Chi on depression levels in adults in the community. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design in the form of a one-group pretest-posttest design without a control. The sample consisted of 30 respondents selected using accidental sampling and meeting the inclusion criteria of being aged 18–59 years with mild to moderate depression. The instrument used was the PHQ-9 questionnaire with a validity score of 0.508–0.907. The intervention consisted of Tai Chi exercises comprising eight movements, performed three times a week for 30 minutes independently at home. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test to see if there was a difference in depression levels before and after the intervention. Before the intervention, the majority of respondents experienced mild depression, while after the intervention, the majority of respondents showed no symptoms of depression. The Wilcoxon test showed a Z value of -4.899 with p = 0.001. Tai Chi exercises have a significant effect in reducing depression levels in adults in the community. Tai Chi exercises can be used as an alternative non-pharmacological intervention to improve the mental health of adults in the community.

Abstract

The leadership style adopted by nurse managers in community health centers plays a crucial role in determining the performance of health cadres. Effective leaders can increase team motivation, engagement, and productivity, leading to the success of community-level health programs. Therefore, it is important to analyze the relationship between nurse managers' leadership style and the performance of health cadres in community health centers. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the leadership style of managing nurses and the performance of health cadres at Community Health Center X, Sukabumi City. This study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The respondents were 50 health cadres at Community Health Center X. Leadership style was measured using the Leadership Style Questionnaire (LSQ), while health cadre performance was measured using the Job Performance Scale. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman test to examine the relationship between the two variables. Among the 50 health cadres, those supervised under a transformational leadership style showed the highest performance, with 64.3% rated as high performers. Cadres under transactional leadership mostly achieved moderate performance (50%), while cadres under laissez-faire leadership had the lowest performance, with 62.5% rated low and none rated high. A significant positive relationship was found between leadership style and cadre performance (r = 0.423; p = 0.003). This study concludes that transformational leadership style has a significant influence on improving the performance of health cadres at Community Health Center X.

Abstract

The management of multicentric breast cancer (MBC) has traditionally relied on total mastectomy to ensure comprehensive local control. However, the use of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has transformed this approach by frequently achieving significant tumor downstaging or even a pathological complete response (pCR). This has spurred a critical re-evaluation of surgical strategies, moving from a standard, one-size-fits-all mastectomy to a more personalized approach. To evaluate the effectiveness of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in downstaging multicentric breast cancer and to assess the feasibility of breast-conserving surgery compared to total mastectomy, based on pathological response and tumor characteristics. This literature review provides a comparative analysis of standard mastectomy versus a mastectomy on demand strategy for MBC patients following NAC. The review synthesizes findings from existing observational and retrospective studies to highlight key differences in oncological outcomes, cosmetic results, and patient quality of life. It also critically evaluates the current literature to identify major research gaps and areas for future investigation. The literature review draws upon a diverse selection of peer-reviewed international journals, including Clinical Breast Cancer, BMC Cancer, NPJ Breast Cancer, Annals of Surgical Oncology, and British Journal of Surgery. A total of 26 references were cited, with approximately 20 forming the core foundation for comparative analysis between standard mastectomy and mastectomy-on-demand strategies following neoadjuvant chemotherapy in multicentric breast cancer (MBC). References span from 2022 to 2025, reflecting reliance on recent and clinically pertinent sources. Studies were critically appraised using a narrative synthesis approach, emphasizing thematic relevance to oncological outcomes, cosmetic considerations, patient quality of life, and clinical decision-making. The review identifies key differences in surgical strategies, evaluates the role of post-NAC imaging and pathological assessment, and underscores gaps in standardized patient selection protocols and prospective clinical trials. A standard mastectomy, while a cornerstone for local control, is increasingly recognized as a maximalist approach that may be unnecessarily extensive for some patients, leading to significant psychosocial and physical morbidity. In contrast, the mastectomy-on-demand strategy leverages a favorable response to NAC to allow for less radical, aesthetically-sparing procedures. The primary challenge for this approach is the need for highly accurate post-NAC imaging and pathological assessment to ensure oncological safety and clear surgical margins. The literature reveals a notable lack of large-scale prospective trials and standardized protocols to guide patient selection for this personalized strategy. The evolving management of MBC reflects a fundamental shift towards a patient-centered approach that balances local disease control with quality of life.

Abstract

The transformation of primary health care services in Indonesia, which began in August 2023, emphasizes improving access, quality, and coverage of health services for all life cycles, including through home visits conducted by Posyandu cadres. However, the implementation of home visits often encounters obstacles, such as lack of knowledge of cadres and limited resources. This study evaluates good practices in implementing home visits by cadres through a multi-party collaboration scheme in the transformation of primary health care services in South Tapanuli. This study employed an action research design to evaluate the implementation of home visits by Posyandu cadres through multi-party collaboration in South Tapanuli. A total of 1,095 families (4,293 community members) across six villages were included in the study using total sampling, ensuring all families in the target villages participated. Data were collected by cadres during home visits using standard forms and included health indicators for pregnant women, postpartum mothers, infants, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. Collected data were entered into a system and analyzed using descriptive statistics to map coverage gaps and identify unmet health service needs. This study was conducted in six villages in South Tapanuli and covered 1,095 families with a total of 4,293 community members over a three-month period (June-August 2024). The results show a mapping of significant health problems in various population groups, such as missing services for pregnant women (incomplete antenatal care of 89.29%), postpartum mothers (not taking vitamin A of 16.67%), infants aged 0-6 months (not doing complete neonatal visits of 32.08%), infants aged 6-72 months (not immunized of 68.16%), adolescents (not doing non-communicable disease screening of 96.91%), and adult and elderly age groups not doing hypertension screening of 77.1% and not doing diabetes screening of 87.9%. This multi-party collaboration has proven effective in identifying and mapping health problems that need to be followed up to reduce the health burden in South Tapanuli.

Abstract

Abstract

The prevalence of obesity has continued to increase every year. The WHO reports that in 2022, more than 160 million children and adolescents aged 5-19 years will be obese. Obesity has become a growing public health concern in low- and middle-income countries such as Indonesia due to changes in diet, sedentary lifestyles, and weak food control policies. This study aims to analyze the factors that contribute to obesity in adolescents, including genetic factors, gender, dietary Advanced Glycation End products intake (dAGE intake), eating frequency, water consumption, physical activity, and sleep duration. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 50 students selected using a total population sampling technique. The research instruments included a 24-hour food recall, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). All instruments demonstrated acceptable psychometric properties, with significance values below 0.05 and Cronbach’s alpha coefficients exceeding 0.70. Statistical analysis showed that physical activity (p = 0.027) and sleep duration (p = 0.006) were significantly associated with obesity. Other factors, including genetics, gender, dAGE intake, eating frequency, and water consumption, were not significantly associated with obesity. Sleep duration was identified as the most influential factor (Exp(B) = 0.103). Factors such as physical activity and sleep duration were associated with obesity. Adolescents need to focus on increasing physical activity, adopting healthy eating habits, and regulating optimal sleep duration as early obesity prevention measures.
