Abstract

Chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases are leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The management of these conditions is often complex and requires ongoing monitoring and adherence to treatment plans. Mobile health (mHealth) applications have emerged as a promising tool for improving chronic disease management, providing patients with real-time monitoring, medication reminders, and lifestyle recommendations. This systematic review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of mHealth applications in managing chronic diseases, examining their impact on patient outcomes, engagement, and healthcare costs. A comprehensive search of electronic databases was conducted, and studies assessing the use of mHealth applications for chronic disease management were included. Data were analyzed for clinical outcomes, user satisfaction, and adherence rates. The findings suggest that mHealth applications can significantly improve patient engagement, enhance self-management behaviors, and lead to better health outcomes in chronic disease management. However, the effectiveness varies across different conditions, with more robust evidence for conditions like diabetes and hypertension. Challenges such as data privacy concerns, technology access issues, and patient adherence remain barriers to widespread adoption. In conclusion, mHealth applications have a valuable role in chronic disease management, but further research is needed to optimize their use and address existing challenges.

Abstract

Chronic malnutrition remains a significant public health concern in malaria-endemic regions and may substantially influence the pharmacological response to antimalarial therapy in children. Although both malnutrition and malaria have been extensively studied independently, their combined effects on drug pharmacokinetics and treatment outcomes are still not well understood. This gap is largely due to the limited integration of pharmacokinetic, clinical, and nutritional evidence, with only a few studies examining their interaction in shaping antimalarial responses. Therefore, this study aims to systematically map and synthesize existing evidence on how chronic malnutrition affects antimalarial pharmacokinetics and therapeutic outcomes in pediatric populations, while also identifying key research gaps. This scoping review followed PRISMA-ScR guidelines, with a systematic search conducted in PubMed and Scopus that initially identified 1,105 records, of which 56 studies met the inclusion criteria after screening. Data were synthesized narratively to evaluate pharmacokinetic alterations and treatment outcomes, and bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer was performed to map research trends. The findings indicate that chronic malnutrition significantly alters key pharmacokinetic parameters of antimalarial drugs, including absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of telemedicine has revolutionized healthcare delivery, particularly in rural areas where access to healthcare services is often limited. This study explores the impact of telemedicine on improving healthcare access in rural communities, aiming to evaluate how virtual healthcare platforms can overcome geographical barriers and enhance patient outcomes. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative interviews with healthcare professionals and patients in rural settings, along with quantitative surveys to assess healthcare accessibility, satisfaction, and perceived effectiveness. The findings reveal that telemedicine significantly improves access to healthcare by reducing travel time, minimizing wait times for appointments, and offering continuous care, which is crucial for managing chronic conditions. Furthermore, patients expressed high satisfaction with the convenience and affordability of virtual consultations. However, challenges such as limited internet connectivity, technological literacy, and concerns about the quality of care were noted. In conclusion, telemedicine holds great potential in expanding healthcare access in rural communities, but it requires tailored strategies to address infrastructure gaps and ensure equitable access to all individuals. Future research should focus on the long-term outcomes and scalability of telemedicine initiatives in diverse rural settings.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence–assisted clinical decision support systems are increasingly integrated into smart healthcare environments, offering new opportunities to enhance patient safety and care quality while transforming nursing practice. Persistent challenges such as medical errors, delayed clinical responses, and variability in care highlight the need for effective decision support tools. This study aims to examine the impact of artificial intelligence-assisted systems on patient safety, care quality, and nursing decision-making processes. A mixed-methods design was employed, combining quantitative analysis of clinical indicators with qualitative insights from nurses across multiple hospital units. Data were collected from 120 nurses and corresponding patient records before and after system implementation, supported by surveys and interviews. Findings reveal significant reductions in medication errors and adverse events, alongside improvements in response time, care quality, and nurse decision confidence. Inferential analysis confirms that system usability and training significantly influence outcomes, while experience level moderates system effectiveness. The study concludes that artificial intelligence–assisted decision support enhances clinical performance by complementing nursing expertise and enabling data-driven decision-making. Effective integration depends on user readiness, organizational support, and alignment with clinical workflows, highlighting the need for human-centered implementation strategies in smart healthcare systems.

Abstract

Lead is a known heavy metal from human history to date for various uses, abuses and toxicities. Lead poisoning has been recognized as one of the most serious environmental health issues worldwide, especially children living in developing countries. Lead can damage or affect the organs of the body, among others, the nervous system, kidneys, reproductive system, and heart, as well as disturbances in the brain so that intellectual and mental disorders in the brain. This study aims to see the effect of lead on the number of neurons in the hippocampus in mice experimental animals. The mice used amounted to 10 tails and divided into two for the control group and the treatment group. The control group, each of which was 5 tails, was then given unbleached drinking water while the treatment group was given drinking water mixed with acetate with concentration of 1000ppm for 17 days in adlibitum. The observations were taken from each of the 5 fields of view on each preparation with a magnification of 40x. The calculation of the number of neuron cells is then analyzed descriptive statistics and different test. The result showed that control group with mean ± SD were 127,6 ± 7,9, and for treatment group that was 80,0 ± 20,9. T independent test result showed p = 0,001 (p <0,05) which means that there was a significant difference between control and treatment group. The conclusion of this research is the existence of neuron cell damage in mice that get treatment. By showing the number of neurons less than the control mice. Suggestion to develop this research hence need to continue research to find neuro protector compound specially from lead work in brain.

Abstract

The process of labor is often accompanied by physical discomfort and emotional stress, which can influence its progression and the overall experience of childbirth. Birth ball exercises and spousal support have been identified as effective interventions to alleviate labor-related discomfort and anxiety. However, the combined effect of these interventions remains underexplored, particularly in the Indonesian context. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of combining birth ball exercises and spousal support on labor progression and maternal anxiety during the first stage of labor in Balikpapan. A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach was used, involving 60 first-time mothers who were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (birth ball exercises and spousal support) or a control group (standard care). Data on cervical dilation, contraction frequency, and labor duration were collected, alongside anxiety levels measured by the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). The results indicated that the experimental group experienced faster labor progression and significantly lower anxiety levels compared to the control group. The study concluded that combining birth ball exercises with spousal support can effectively improve labor outcomes and reduce maternal anxiety. These findings suggest the integration of these interventions into routine prenatal care to enhance maternal well-being and labor efficiency.

Abstract

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health threat that significantly impacts the pediatric population, which has unique physiological characteristics and high susceptibility to irrational antibiotic use. This systematic review aims to synthesize scientific evidence on clinical and operational strategies for optimizing antimicrobial use in pediatric infections. A literature search was conducted in major international databases following PRISMA guidelines, with the inclusion of studies evaluating antimicrobial stewardship interventions, diagnostic stewardship, pharmacokinetic/ pharmacodynamic (PK/PD)-based precision dosing, and standardized clinical pathways. Results indicate that an integrated approach consistently reduces antibiotic consumption, improves adherence to clinical guidelines, accelerates time to optimal therapy, and maintains or improves clinical outcomes without increasing mortality. Integration of rapid diagnostic tests and biomarkers supports faster de-escalation of therapy, while model-informed precision dosing improves achievement of therapeutic targets in critically ill populations. Operational factors such as institutional leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, standardized metrics monitoring, and digital technology support have been shown to strengthen program sustainability. Overall, optimizing antimicrobial use in pediatric infections requires a holistic systems approach to improve the quality of therapy while suppressing the development of global resistance.

Abstract

Introduction: Exclusive breastfeeding is a critical intervention for improving infant health, yet its coverage remains suboptimal. The advancement of digital information media has emerged as an effective strategy for modifying breastfeeding mothers' behavior amidst cultural challenges and formula milk promotion. Purpose: This study aims to identify, evaluate, and synthesize scientific evidence regarding the impact of various types of digital information media on breastfeeding practices. Method: This study employed a systematic review design following the PRISMA guidelines. A literature search was conducted across the ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases, covering the period from 2021 to 2025. Results: Findings from various studies indicate that interventions via digital platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, and interactive websites consistently increase exclusive breastfeeding rates. Social media has proven effective in enhancing the knowledge and self-efficacy of millennial mothers. Nevertheless, challenges exist in the form of aggressive formula milk advertisements on social media, which may undermine maternal commitment. Conclusion: Digital media-based education (WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, and the Web) serves as an innovative and effective solution for improving exclusive breastfeeding behaviors among breastfeeding mothers.

Abstract

Company Z is a frozen food processing industry located in Japan that produces imagawayaki cakes, traditional Japanese cakes that have a round shape and are filled with various fillings. In the production process, workers often come into direct contact with various large-capacity machines, raw materials, and work equipment that have potential hazards from a physical, mechanical, and ergonomic perspective. Some potential hazards often found in the production environment in this food industry include slippery floors due to water or oil spills, hot molds and baking machines, hot room temperatures, and the use of sharp tools. This study aims to identify all hazards in each stage of the production process, then map them into risk levels so that appropriate controls can be provided for existing risks. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach that applies the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC) method as an analytical tool to identify potential hazards and assess the risk of work accidents in the food processing industry sector. Thus, the risk percentage results obtained are at extreme risk of 0%, high risk of 66%, medium risk of 27%, and low risk of 7%. There are also 50 risk control suggestions based on the risk control hierarchy, namely 2 elimination, 7 substitution, 12 engineering controls, 15 administrative controls, and 14 use of personal protective equipment.

Abstract

Head and neck cancer (HNC) remains a major cause of cancer-related morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-targeted therapies have improved treatment outcomes, their clinical effectiveness is often limited by drug resistance and adverse effects, highlighting the need for alternative therapeutic candidates. This study evaluated the potential of Moringa oleifera Lam. phytochemicals as prospective EGFR inhibitors using an integrated in silico approach. Molecular docking was performed with AutoDock Vina implemented in PyRx against the EGFR crystal structure (PDB ID: 4HJO). Ligand structures retrieved from PubChem were prepared and optimized using Open Babel prior to docking, while pharmacokinetic properties were predicted using the pkCSM web server. Among the screened compounds, brassicasterol and campesterol exhibited the strongest predicted binding affinity (?8.6 kcal/mol), followed by campestanol (?8.4 kcal/mol) and ergosterol (?8.2 kcal/mol), exceeding the docking scores of both the native ligand (?7.2 kcal/mol) and gefitinib under the same computational conditions. Interaction analysis indicated that ligand binding was primarily stabilized through hydrophobic contacts with key EGFR residues, including LEU694, VAL702, and LEU820. ADMET prediction suggested favorable intestinal absorption, acceptable physicochemical properties, blood–brain barrier permeability, and low predicted mutagenicity, although several phytosterols demonstrated potential CYP3A4 inhibitory activity. These findings provide preliminary computational evidence supporting the potential of selected Moringa oleifera phytosterols as candidate EGFR-targeting compounds. However, the results are based solely on computational predictions and require further validation through in vitro and in vivo studies before therapeutic applications can be inferred.
