Abstract

Elementary school students' mathematical problem-solving ability in solving mathematical word problems is still relatively low. This study aims to develop an open-ended word problem instrument on integers to measure the problem-solving ability of fourth-grade elementary school students that is valid, reliable, and suitable for use as a learning evaluation tool. This study used the Research and Development (R&D) method with a 4-D model that includes the stages of Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The research subjects consisted of 28 fourth-grade elementary school students in one of the schools in Bekasi City. Data collection techniques were carried out through expert validation and limited trials. The results showed that all items obtained valid and very valid categories with a reliability value of 0.80 in the very strong category. The results of the difficulty level test showed that all items were in the moderate category, while the results of the discrimination test were in the good to very good category. In addition, the results of the trial showed that students were able to use various problem-solving strategies in solving open-ended problems according to Polya's problem-solving stages. Thus, the developed open-ended word problem instrument was declared valid, reliable, and suitable for use in measuring elementary school students' mathematical problem-solving abilities.

Abstract

Education is an important factor in improving the quality of human resources, and teachers play a strategic role in determining the success of the learning process. One of the essential competencies that teachers must possess is the ability to develop high-quality lesson planning as a guide for conducting effective and well-directed learning activities. This study aims to analyze teachers' competencies in developing quality lesson plans and identify the factors influencing those competencies. The study employed a qualitative approach using a literature review method. Data were collected from national and international scientific journals, books, and educational policy documents published between 2020 and 2025. The analysis process utilized the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) framework, which includes identification, screening, eligibility assessment, and inclusion stages. The findings indicate that teachers' competencies in lesson planning are influenced by pedagogical competence, curriculum mastery, teaching experience, professional training, and the ability to understand students' characteristics. Teachers with strong lesson-planning competencies are more capable of designing effective, innovative, adaptive, and student-centered learning processes. Conversely, inadequate lesson-planning competence may negatively affect the effectiveness of learning implementation. This study also emphasizes that the quality of lesson planning is not merely determined by the completeness of instructional documents but also by teachers' ability to design contextual learning experiences that align with students' needs and the demands of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

Mathematics is a crucial subject in the elementary school curriculum. However, it is often feared by students due to academic anxiety and low interest in learning. This study aims to explore teachers' contributions in addressing students' anxiety and lack of interest in learning mathematics, particularly among fourth-grade elementary school students, using a comprehensive approach. The study employed a quantitative method, involving 31 fourth-grade elementary school students to assess their levels of anxiety and interest, and 30 teachers who were invited to assess their self-assessments regarding their classroom roles. Data were obtained through a questionnaire using a Likert scale and analyzed using a non-parametric statistical test, namely the Spearman Rank correlation. Findings from the descriptive analysis indicated that most teachers' views on their contributions were in the moderate category (93.3%), and students' anxiety and interest in learning were also predominantly in the moderate category (80.7%). However, the results of the inferential hypothesis test showed a significance value of 0.633, which is higher than the 0.05 level of significance. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between teachers' roles and the levels of anxiety and interest in learning mathematics in fourth-grade elementary school students. This lack of correlation indicates that a single teacher intervention in the classroom is not strong enough to reduce the psychological barriers that have already formed in students. Therefore, a collaborative strategy is needed that involves the entire education system holistically and individually.

Abstract

Digital transformation in education has brought both positive and negative impacts on the teaching profession. Teachers as professional educators are required not only to master pedagogical, social, professional, and personal competencies, but also to apply digital ethics. This study aims to analyze the challenges of professional ethics for Civic Education (PPKn) teachers in the digital era, particularly regarding social media use, student data privacy protection, and online interaction with parents. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation during Teaching Assistance activities. The results show that uncontrolled social media use by teachers can diminish professional authority. Additionally, a low level of understanding regarding student personal data protection was found among teachers. In online communication, teachers also face challenges from parents demanding immediate responses that often exceed the professional boundaries of teachers. This study recommends the importance of drafting a digital code of ethics for teachers, digital literacy training, and increased legal awareness regarding personal data protection.

Abstract

The ability to write effective sentences is an essential competency in Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level; however, field observations reveal that more than 60% of fourth-grade students still produce incoherent sentences that do not conform to standard grammatical rules. This study aimed to: (1) develop the ‘KALIFE’ (Kalimat Efektif/Effective Sentence) digital flipbook as an interactive learning medium for fourth-grade elementary school students; (2) describe the feasibility level of the media based on evaluations by material and media experts; and (3) analyze the effectiveness of the KALIFE media in improving students’ effective sentence writing skills. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects consisted of 15 fourth-grade students of SD NU Tanwirul Qulub, Kudus, selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test and N-Gain analysis. The results showed that the mean score increased from 54.2 (pre-test) to 84.2 (post-test). The paired sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference in students’ writing ability before and after the use of KALIFE media. The N-Gain analysis produced a mean score of 0.6598 (65.97%), categorized as moderate. It is concluded that the KALIFE digital flipbook is both feasible and effective as an interactive learning medium for teaching effective sentence writing to fourth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

This field research aims to analyze the integration of the essence of science and Islamic epistemology within a renewal-based curriculum at SMP Al-Irsyad Surakarta. The school possesses a unique historical-ideological character as it adopts the anti-taqlid renewal spirit (tajdid) of Ahmad As-Surkati amid the demands of 21st-century digitalization. Employing a descriptive qualitative method with a field research case study approach, primary data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews with the Principal, Vice Principal for Curriculum Affairs, and science and Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers. Data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, comprising data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that SMP Al-Irsyad Surakarta constructs the essence of science not as a mechanistic secular entity, but as an empirical reading of cosmic verses (ayat kauniyah). Islamic epistemology is actualized through the unification of the burhani method (rational-experimental analysis) and the bayani method (scriptural guidance). The curriculum is realized through integrative teaching material clustering, where general scientific formulas are traced to their theological roots without indiscriminately conflating disciplinary domains. This research provides a practical contribution regarding the operationalization model of science-Islam integration at the junior secondary school level.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how the Pondok Pesantren Tahfidzul Qur’an (PPTQ) Insan Kamil Karanganyar internalizes noble character values into Quran-memorizing students (santri) from the perspective of Islamic axiology. Additionally, this research examines the methods employed by instructors, the behavioral monitoring system, as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors in the field. This study utilizes a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through interviews with the Curriculum Coordinator and Tahfidz Instructors, observations of the students’ behavior, and documentation studies, which were then validated using triangulation techniques. The results indicate that the internalization of moral values at this Islamic boarding school has successfully cultivated ten ideal Muslim character traits within the students. Interestingly, improvements in students’ character are not determined by the quantity of their memorization (ziyadah), but rather by the strength of their memorization quality (mutqin) and their diligence in reviewing it (murajaah), which fosters patience and humility. The character-building process is implemented through the study of three classical etiquette books, a strict daily routine from waking up until sleeping, positive role-modeling from the teachers, and an educational reward-and-punishment system. Students’ behavioral development is monitored daily using daily evaluation sheets (mutabaah) and reported through a semesterly character report card. The primary supporting factors for this program include a comfortable boarding school environment and exemplary behavior from the instructors. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors consist of the students’ dense daily schedule as well as the negative influence of social media and smartphone use during vacations or parent visits.

Abstract

Scholarly discussions have frequently addressed moral cultivation within pesantren settings. Nevertheless, axiological interpretations of santri formation at PPTQ Al Husna Baki have received relatively little attention. This inquiry investigates how value-oriented religious pedagogy shapes santri dispositions and maps the principles embedded in their routine communal activities. A naturalistic single-site design with a descriptive-interpretive orientation was adopted. The information sources comprised a religious-studies instructor, several ustadzah, and female administrators selected according to the relevance of their knowledge. Empirical material was generated from in-depth conversations, direct field engagement, and the examination of institutional records. It was subsequently processed by isolating essential information, organizing recurring patterns, and formulating interpretive inferences. The findings reveal that axiological commitments are enacted through instructional activities, structured routines, exemplary conduct, and consolidation of a pesantren ethos rooted in religious principles. These mechanisms strengthen piety, orderliness, integrity, accountability, self-reliance, and social sensitivity among santri. This inquiry broadens discussions of Islamic educational axiology by demonstrating the formative significance of consistently embedding religious principles in institutional routines and interpersonal practices.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low student learning outcomes in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) classes for Grade II students at MIN 1 South Tapanuli. Many students paid little attention to the teacher during lessons because the teaching methods employed lacked variety, resulting in low student engagement. The study aimed to determine student learning outcomes when using the demonstration method in PJOK classes at MIN 1 South Tapanuli. This was a classroom action research study comprising an initial baseline phase, Cycle I, and Cycle II, with each cycle consisting of two meetings. The subjects were 19 Grade II students. Data collection instruments included observation sheets and tests. Improvements were assessed based on test results and observations conducted by the researcher. During the pre-cycle phase, the average score for Grade II students was 54.2, with a mastery rate of 12.7%. In Cycle I, the average score was 63.1 with a mastery rate of 31.5% at the first meeting, and 70.0 with a mastery rate of 47.4% at the second meeting. In Cycle II, the average score was 74.7 with a mastery rate of 63.1% at the first meeting, and 79.4 with a mastery rate of 84.2% at the second meeting. The results across these cycles demonstrate an increase in average scores and mastery rates, indicating that the use of the demonstration method (supported by audiovisual media) can improve student learning outcomes in Physical Education, Sports, and Health.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has increased the use of online games among elementary school students. However, excessive use may disrupt time management, learning discipline, and academic responsibility, as well as encourage academic procrastination. This study aims to analyze the impact of the online game Free Fire on academic procrastination and identify the relationship between gaming intensity and the learning behavior of upper-grade students at SDN Guntur 2, Demak Regency. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving 21 students from Grades IV, V, and VI who played Free Fire. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, interviews with teachers and parents, and documentation. Data validity was examined using source and technique triangulation, while data analysis involved data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that 80% of students reduced their study time because of playing Free Fire, while 71% tended to postpone completing school assignments. The forms of procrastination identified included delaying homework, studying shortly before examinations, completing assignments near deadlines, difficulty managing time, and reduced concentration during learning activities. Students with high gaming intensity tended to experience greater difficulty balancing study, play, and rest time than students with low gaming intensity. These findings indicate that uncontrolled use of Free Fire is associated with increased academic procrastination. Therefore, parental supervision, teacher guidance, and restrictions on gaming time are necessary to prevent online gaming activities from interfering with students’ academic responsibilities.
