Abstract

The digital transformation in education has brought significant changes to communication, learning, and public engagement patterns, including in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). As traditional Islamic educational institutions, pesantren face the challenge of maintaining classical values while responding to modern demands through digital convergence. This study aims to explore how pesantren utilize digital technology as a bridge between Islamic tradition and the demands of modern society, fostering broader public engagement. The research method used is a qualitative approach with case studies of several pesantren that have integrated digital media into education, da'wah, and institutional management. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation analysis. The results show that digital convergence not only expands access to information and pesantren communication networks but also strengthens their public image through social media, websites, and online learning platforms. However, challenges arise related to human resource readiness, digital literacy, and the risk of degradation of traditional values. This study's contribution lies in presenting a model for integrating pesantren traditions with relevant digital technology to strengthen the role of Islamic education in responding to the needs of the modern era, while also affirming the pesantren's identity as centers of knowledge, morality, and social engagement.

Abstract

This study investigates the paradox between spiritual devotion (khidmah) and professional work ethics within the performance management system of educators at Pondok Pesantren Nurul Fatta. The modernization of Islamic educational governance has shifted the meaning of khidmah from a form of sincere spiritual service toward a professional responsibility emphasizing accountability and measurable performance. The study aims to analyze the transformation of khidmah’s meaning, identify tensions between spiritual and professional motivations among educators, and formulate an integrative performance management model that harmonizes spiritual values with professional standards. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Research subjects included pesantren leaders, educators, and administrative managers. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, and then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal a shift in the meaning of khidmah from spiritual to professional orientation, the emergence of value tension in work motivation, and the need for a management system capable of integrating both orientations. The novelty of this research lies in the development of a Faith-Integrated Performance Appraisal Model, which adapts the principles of Psychological Contract Theory and Dual Motivation Theory to the context of Islamic educational institutions. This study contributes to strengthening value-based performance governance that not only emphasizes organizational efficiency but also preserves the essence of spirituality within educational management practices.

Abstract

This study examines the branding dilemma of a madrasah located in a tourism area, using MA Cahaya Cendikia Bali as the primary case study. The research aims to analyze the forms of identity tension that emerge and the managerial strategies employed to reconcile local Balinese values with Islamic religious identity within a multicultural society. A qualitative descriptive approach was adopted, utilizing interviews, observations, and documentation as the main data sources. The findings indicate that the madrasah faces challenges in maintaining a religious image while simultaneously responding to the socio-cultural openness demanded by a tourism-driven environment. Management efforts such as integrating local values, strengthening social participation, and utilizing digital media have been undertaken; however, their implementation remains inconsistent and largely partial. This study contributes to the development of identity management concepts in Islamic educational institutions by proposing a more adaptive, collaborative, and context-sensitive model of religious–cultural branding aligned with the dynamics of Bali’s tourism context.

Abstract

Social transformation and digital communication have fundamentally reshaped the relationship between Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) and students’ parents (walisantri). This study aims to analyze the patterns of social relations within the Qur’anic Education Center (PPIQ) of Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School, identify the value tensions between adab (moral courtesy) and openness in institutional communication practices, and formulate a value-based management model grounded in ethical communication. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research involved administrators, teachers, and representatives of walisantri as participants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model with source triangulation to ensure validity. The findings reveal a transitional pattern of social relations that balances moral authority with social participation. The novelty of this study lies in the development of a value-based management model that integrates the principles of adab, openness, and balance as the ethical framework of institutional communication. This model contributes to strengthening pesantren governance that is ethical, transparent, and adaptive to modern social dynamics.

Abstract

The implementation of the curriculum in Islamic educational institutions plays an important role in shaping the character and Islamic competence of students, especially at the elementary school level. This study aims to describe curriculum implementation strategies in improving students’ Islamic literacy, which includes their ability to read, understand, and practice Islamic teachings through both formal and non-formal learning activities. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings show that curriculum implementation is carried out through the integration of Islamic values into all subjects, the implementation of habituation programs such as daily prayers, shalat dhuha, and Qur’an recitation (tadarus), and the strengthening of extracurricular activities such as Qur’an Reading and Writing (BTQ) and Islamic studies. Teachers serve as role models and facilitators in creating a religious, dynamic, and inclusive learning environment, while support from the principal, school committee, and parents reinforces the effectiveness of these strategies. A well-directed and sustainable curriculum implementation has been proven to contribute to the improvement of students’ Islamic literacy, in terms of understanding religious teachings, Qur’an reading ability, and religious behavior in daily life.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has encouraged educational institutions to adopt digital marketing as a strategic instrument to enhance competitiveness. However, in vocational education based on Islamic boarding schools, the implementation of digital marketing has not been fully supported by adequate management systems and human resource capacity. This study aims to analyze the limitations of management systems in supporting digital marketing and to identify institutional-based optimization efforts. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method at SMK Nurul Jadid. The research subjects include the principal, teachers, and staff involved in digital marketing activities. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, while data analysis was conducted using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that digital marketing activities have been implemented but are not yet systematically managed, human resource capacity remains limited, and institutional strengthening is required to optimize management practices. The novelty of this study lies in its emphasis on institutional aspects of digital marketing management within the context of Islamic boarding school-based education. The implications highlight the importance of system integration, human resource development, and policy support in achieving effective and sustainable digital marketing management.

Abstract

Character education in faith-based educational institutions, particularly Madrasah Aliyah, requires aligned collaboration between families and educational institutions. However, empirical practices indicate a lack of value alignment, resulting in inconsistencies in students’ character formation. This study aims to analyze the role of the hidden curriculum in aligning family–school collaboration and to formulate a collaboration model based on the hidden curriculum. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects include institutional administrators, teachers, parents, and students. Data collection techniques consist of in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, while data analysis follows the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings reveal that the hidden curriculum plays a significant role through role modeling, habituation, informal interaction, and the establishment of a consistent institutional culture, thereby facilitating value alignment across environments. This study produces five collaboration models: integrated role modeling, sustainable habituation, cultural alignment, informal educational interaction, and value continuity. The novelty of this research lies in the formulation of a collaboration model based on latent mechanisms as an alternative to structural approaches. The implications indicate that effective collaboration requires the integration of value-based practices rather than merely formal communication, leading to strengthened and sustainable character internalization.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the lack of synchronization between the mentoring systems of islamic boarding schools and higher education institutions, which affects the sustainability of value internalization during students’ transitional phase. Differences in mentoring orientation, control systems, and the absence of a structured transition management framework indicate gaps in cross-institutional mentoring management. This study aims to identify forms of system misalignment, analyze the implementation of mentoring that remains partial, and formulate a transition management design as an integrative solution. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with participants consisting of students with islamic boarding school backgrounds, mentoring administrators, and academic staff. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, while data analysis used an interactive model. The findings reveal that mentoring is not yet integrated, as indicated by program fragmentation, the absence of an integrated curriculum, and weak coordination and evaluation mechanisms. The novelty of this study lies in the development of transition management as an integrative approach. The implications suggest that a structured transition management design can strengthen value sustainability and improve the effectiveness of student mentoring.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low effectiveness of branding strategies for educational institutions in rural areas, which tend to focus on formal information delivery and have not yet succeeded in building social trust within the community. The study aims to develop a Socio-Trust Branding model as a strategic approach to increasing student enrollment interest. It employs a qualitative descriptive-exploratory approach conducted at Pondok Pesantren Sullam Safina. The research subjects include institutional managers, educators, students’ parents, and surrounding community members. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using an interactive model involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that current branding practices remain partial and have not optimally integrated social trust, informal communication (Word of Mouth), and community engagement. The proposed Socio-Trust Branding model consists of strengthening social trust, activating informal communication, enhancing community embeddedness, and reinforcing interpersonal relationships, which collectively contribute to building positive perceptions and increasing student interest. The novelty of this study lies in integrating social trust, community engagement, and informal communication into a contextual branding model. The implications suggest that branding strategies for rural educational institutions should prioritize social relationships and collective trust to achieve greater effectiveness and sustainability.

Abstract

This study is grounded in the issue of unequal task distribution within the management system of Islamic boarding schools involving university students who simultaneously serve as students, santri, and organizational administrators. These multiple responsibilities often lead to role overload, workload imbalance, and work inefficiency. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of role burden and formulate a capacity-based leadership model for optimizing task distribution. Using a qualitative case study approach at Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings indicate that task distribution remains administrative rather than capacity-based, resulting in unequal workloads, dependence on key individuals, and delays in organizational activities during intensive academic periods. In addition, organizational evaluation remains focused on program outcomes without monitoring workload balance among administrators. The novelty of this study lies in the development of a capacity-based leadership model that emphasizes the alignment between individual capacity, workload distribution, and organizational effectiveness within student-based Islamic boarding school organizations.
