Abstract

This research aims to investigate the role of 24/7 news networks in transforming how the media industry presents, consumes, and interacts with news. To achieve this goal, the study conducts a literature review on the development and evolution of 24/7 news networks and their impact on society. The analysis results show that 24/7 news networks have significantly changed the media landscape. Firstly, their ability to deliver news instantly and in real-time has shifted traditional news reporting models that relied on print editions or scheduled broadcasts. Second, the adoption of multimedia formats in 24/7 news network platforms has enhanced interactivity and reader engagement in the news process. However, the media industry faces challenges in dealing with this phenomenon. The demand to provide non-stop news puts pressure on journalists and editors to remain relevant and accurate in delivering information. Additionally, the emergence of social news platforms has brought new issues related to the validity and credibility of news. This article also highlights the social impact of 24/7 news networks. Easy access to news anytime and anywhere has influenced how society consumes news and interacts with information. Moreover, ethical questions arise on how to manage the information overload presented by 24/7 news networks without compromising the reliability of sources.

Abstract

Undergraduate internship is the first access of students in the world of work that is why it is worth investigating what student-interns' experiences are. In this regard, the researchers delved into the alignment of the internship tasks given to Bachelor of Arts in Communication seniors in one prime state university toward their career trajectories anchored on CMO number 35, series of 2017 as required by the Commission on Higher Education in the Philippines, and the hurdles that they experienced in their internship deployment. By employing Qualitative Content Analysis of diary entries of thirty-two (32) interns from March 14, 2022, to May 13, 2022, in thirty-one (31) host offices, the following themes surfaced. The career trajectories are expressed in "MMMAPS" which stands for Media practitioner, Multimedia designer, Marketing assistant, administrative assistant, public information officer, and Social science researcher, while the hurdles are pegged as "WorST" which means Work-related, Student-related, and Task-related hurdles. There were loopholes in the deployment of the interns. Consequently, implications for practice are extrapolated to fully target the listed goals for students when they graduate.

Abstract

The study uncovered that educational institutions cannot exclusively rely on their international ranking achievements to maintain their legitimacy. Universities must prioritize strategic communication to enhance their competitive position in the global education market. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, encompassing in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with a cohort of 37 first-year students attending a private institution. The study revealed that students' decision-making process in selecting a private university was intricate and involved multiple aspects. In addition to rankings, students also considered variables such as parental influence, networking possibilities, and the level of facilities and support services provided by the university. Consequently, colleges should prioritize not only their rankings but also other marketing tactics to recruit students. Although university rankings like QS and Times Higher Education significantly influence the perception of institutions in terms of quality and prestige, it is advisable to adopt a more balanced approach. Access to information via digital platforms, such as websites and social media, has played a critical role in demonstrating the program's and university's reliability. Public relations initiatives, however, have focused on highlighting the excellence of education and the societal obligations of universities in the fiercely competitive higher education sector.

Abstract

This study endeavors to explore the determinants behind the prevalence of selfie culture in the light of self-presentation strategies. It applied Erving Goffman's (1959) Self-Presentation theory to scrutinize the pattern of selfie culture among university students in Bangladesh. Following a qualitative methodology, semi-structured interviews were conducted among 20 participants as a purposive sample age range from 20 to 25 years old. The results demonstrate that the participants tend to invest considerable attention to take selfies, afterward use filters to maximize the "best version" of the self, and eventually post them in the digital world. Their desire to represent the "best version" of themselves and gain the attention of others reflect the narcissist traits of the participants. Also, their level of self-esteem increases when they feel confident and see their "retouched image" after using photographic filters.

Abstract

The relevance of multimodal features of campaign posters in disseminating intended information to the Nigerian electorate during elections is the focus of this research. The study examines six selected political campaign posters of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 General Elections conducted in Nigeria. The posters, technically designed, are analysed with a view to highlighting their visual and linguistic components. The analysis is also intended to determine their effectiveness in persuading the electorate to vote for the candidate. The posters are chosen because they symbolically express the candidate's and his party's identity and ideology. The study adopts the social semiotic theory of Kress and van Leeuwen (2006) to analyse data sourced from Facebook and WhatsApp. The data are synthesised based on insights from the adopted theory. The paper reveals that Bola Ahmed Tinubu can disseminate information and project his political ideology on the minds of the electorate through visual and non-visual messages contained in the posters. The study concludes that the campaign posters of Bola Ahmed Tinubu contributed to influencing the decision of some Nigerian electorate to vote for him in the 2023 General Elections. The study recommends that future researchers can investigate the relevance of campaign posters in disseminating intended messages to the electorate in other elections conducted in Nigeria.

Elections are one of the times when Indonesian democracy runs because the people themselves will choose a pair of president and vice president candidates along with the existing legislature. Voters need to have enough information about the candidates in order to choose the best among them, especially novice voters. Novice voters need to have good digital literacy in facing the upcoming 2024 elections. The 2024 election itself is mostly from young people who are novice voters. The purpose of this study is to determine the digital literacy readiness of novice voters in 2024 elections. In addition, it will also be known what factors influence this readiness and the impact of the readiness of novice voters on their participation in the election later. This study uses a quantitative approach with descriptive methods. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires as primary data and literature studies as secondary data. The results and conclusions obtained in this study are that the majority of novice voters use social media as an information platform about the 2024 elections with varying levels of trust in the information. Most of the respondents chose not to share the information obtained related to the verification of uncertain news.

Abstract

The development of technology has brought about various transformations in the lines of people's lives, one of which is in political contestation. A political contestation in Indonesia has just passed namely the 2024 General Election. The Indonesian people elected 4 Legislative Members and 1 Pair of Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates in that election. There were three candidate pairs in the 2024 presidential election. Candidate Pair Prabowo-Gibran, Candidate Pair Anies-Muhaimin and Candidate Pair Ganjar-Mahfud. In the campaign process, something was interesting, namely that the discourse battle had shifted to a non-discourse battle. One is politainment, which the candidate pairs presents to the public on social media. Politainment itself refers to the equivalent of the words politics and entertainment. This is interesting because political contestation is very close to the battle of ideas and discourse in the campaign process. However, in the 2024 presidential election, this has shifted. Therefore, this is interesting to examine further. This study uses a qualitative approach to dig deeper into politainment in the 2024 Presidential Election political campaign. The data will be selected using purposive sampling techniques, and then the data that has been obtained will be analyzed using qualitative thematic analysis techniques. This study found that politainment is used by presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs to wrap messages in political campaigns

The technique of sampling in this study was purposive sampling. Analyze the data with Chi Square. The statistical test results obtained P value = 0.000 means P value < α (0.05). The results indicate that there is a relationship between therapeutic communication and the level of anxiety of primigravida mothers in the face of childbirth.
