Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using the interactive quiz application Quizizz on the engagement of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 42, Lubuklinggau City, in the learning process. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. Forty students were divided into an experimental group and a control group. The research instruments consisted of a student engagement questionnaire covering behavioral, emotional, and cognitive aspects, as well as an observation sheet. Data were collected through pre- and post-tests, then analyzed using an independent t-test. The results showed a significant increase in student engagement in the experimental group after using the Quizizz application. The average student engagement score in the experimental group increased from 68.45 to 85.30, with an N-Gain of 0.53 (medium-high category), while the control group only experienced an N-Gain increase of 0.16 (low category). The t-test results showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between student engagement using the Quizizz app and students using conventional learning methods. Thus, the use of the Quizizz interactive quiz app significantly increased elementary school students' engagement in the learning process.

Abstract

This research aims to develop valid, practical, and effective physical object-based learning media to improve students' conceptual understanding of abstract material. The research method used was Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Validation was conducted by material and media experts, while practicality and effectiveness were tested through limited trials with teachers and students. The results showed that the physical object-based learning media was categorized as highly valid, with an average score of 92%. This included aspects of material suitability, conceptual accuracy, visual appeal, and safety of use. The practicality test showed excellent results, with scores of 90% from teachers and 88% from students, indicating that the media was easy to use, engaging, and suited to the characteristics of the learners. Furthermore, effectiveness tests using pretests and posttests demonstrated a significant increase in students' conceptual understanding, with the average score increasing from 58 to 83. The research findings demonstrate that physical object-based learning media can help students understand abstract concepts concretely through direct learning experiences. Thus, the developed media can be implemented as a more interactive, contextual learning alternative that meets the demands of 21st-century learning.

Abstract

This study examines the Islamicate acculturation in the motifs of Kerinci Incung Batik as a form of cultural transformation in the Sungai Penuh community. Incung Batik is a traditional batik from Kerinci that uses the Incung script—a pre-Islamic ancient script—as its primary motif. Employing a historical approach with the historical method consisting of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, this study traces how Islamic values became acculturated with local culture in Incung Batik motifs. The findings show that Islamic acculturation in Incung Batik does not involve the erasure of old cultural elements but rather their integration and symbolic reinterpretation. Evidence of acculturation is seen in motifs that combine Incung script with Islamic elements such as Incung calligraphy and the icon of the Great Mosque of Pondok Tinggi. This cultural transformation occurred evolutionarily, wherein the Incung script—originally used for sacred and magical writings (spells, curses)—was later revitalized as batik motifs carrying Islamic messages. This study concludes that Incung Batik is concrete evidence of harmonious Islamic acculturation in Kerinci, where pre-Islamic identity is not eliminated but enriched with Islamic values. The implications of this research are significant for understanding cultural acculturation in the Indonesian archipelago and for efforts to preserve cultural heritage based on local wisdom.

Abstract

This study examines the development of the use of Janur Kuning leaves in the wedding traditions of the people of Lubuk Aman Village, Lubuklinggau City, South Sumatra, in the modern era. The study aims to analyze the changes in the use of Janur Kunin leaves from natural materials such as young coconut leaves to imitation materials and to identify efforts to preserve cultural values in local traditional wedding traditions. The study used a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation. The results show that the use of yellow coconut leaves has undergone a transformation from a sacred symbol made from natural materials with collective meaning to a decorative ornament made from imitation materials that emphasizes aesthetics and economic efficiency. This change is influenced by the limited availability of young coconut trees in urban areas, increasing manufacturing costs, the influence of social media, and the weakening transmission of traditional knowledge between generations. Nevertheless, some indigenous communities and local cultural figures still strive to maintain the symbolic value of yellow coconut leaves through various forms of cultural adaptation. This research is expected to contribute to the development of local historical studies on the dynamics of wedding traditions in South Sumatra.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate and develop an ethnovideographic production procedure as a culturally and socially conservation-based learning medium, using the Chinese-Indonesian community of Kampung Pecinan, Semarang, as the object of study. The study is motivated by the need of Social Studies Education students for contextual learning experiences grounded in the reality of local cultural diversity, as well as by the limited methodological literature that systematically integrates ethnographic principles with audio-visual production standards within Indonesia's multicultural education context. This research employed a qualitative field-research approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation studies, with credibility ensured through source and method triangulation. The findings formulate a ten-stage ethnovideographic production procedure: (1) preliminary study, (2) formulation of research background and problems, (3) literature review, (4) preparation of interview and observation guides, (5) data collection and documentation, (6) data reduction and display, (7) conclusion drawing/verification, (8) script development, (9) picture and sound editing, and (10) preview and finalization. These ten stages successfully bridge ethnographic scholarly inquiry with cinematic conventions, producing an audio-visual work with both academic substance and pedagogical appeal. The study recommends that this procedure be adopted as an alternative model for producing audio-visual learning media on local cultural diversity, and identifies further research opportunities in testing the product's effectiveness in strengthening students' multicultural attitudes.
