Abstract

The objectives of this study were to assess the risks involved in workshops, to apply the Seiso, Seiton, Seiri, Seiketsu, Shitsuke (5S) concept for workshops development and to develop the fabrication workshop for the Department of Mechanical Engineering Education, Faculty of Engineering, YSU using the 3DS Max simulation application. This study was categorised into Research and Development. The first steps were designing and creating the product using 3DS Max application. The next step was testing the product by implementing it to perform the workshops policy. The results of this study showed the risks consisted of noise, strong light, harmful gases and the mechanical hazards due to falling and moving objects. The implementation of 5S concept, K3 and ergonomics were required to maintain the regularity, efficiency and work discipline, to prevent and to minimize workplace accidents. The development of fabrication workshops using the 3DS Max simulation applicationis is beneficial for implementing the aspects of 5S, K3, ergonomics and provides a reference in redesigning a workshop.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research aims at revealing the impact of the implimentation of ISO 9001:2000 towards the academic service quality (the service quality of lecturers, staffs, technicians, and department orginizer) and the graduates’ quality (GPA and period of study). This evaluation was conducted by using descriptive research method and document analysis to reveal the fact of academic service beforeand after the implementation of ISO 9001:2000. The sample technique was using cluster sampling technique as PTM and PTTB departments were chosen. The target sample was 83 students in the seventh semestser and the dacuments in ISO secretariat from those two deperatments. Data collection techniques were using questionnaire and documentation (syallabus and lesson plan, yusisum data, learning evaluation, attandence list and assessement document). Data analysis method was using quatitive descriptive analysis. The findings showed the mean scores of acedemic sevice quality in PTBB Department had been fulfilling the expectation (3,12) while for PTM can be categorized as moderate level (2.97). The lowest score was found in the area of academic administration service, i.e. 3,02 for PTBB and 2,83 for PTM. Furthermore, it was found that The quality of PTBB graduates improved 0,02 and the period of study for (S1/ Bachelor degree) fluctuated in 5,16 while the GPA of PTM was not stable yet but the students had shorter period of study. By seeing the findings, it can concluded that the implementation of ISO 9001-2000 was able to improve the administration service of academic but it did not guarantee to create qualified acadmic service to support the fulfilment of high GPA and short period of study.Keywords: graduates’ quality, SMM-ISO 9001-2000, quality of academic service

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualitas proses pembelajaran Praktik Pemesinan 3 melalui penerapan self-evaluation. Kualitas pembelajaran tersebut diukur dari aktifitas kemandirian dan prestasi belajar mahasiswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian tindakan kelas. Subjek yang menjadi sasaran penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa yang mengikuti mata kuliah Praktik Pemesinan 3, grup A1 yang bejumlah 14 orang. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan dokumen asesmen prestasi belajar, observasi dan wawancara. Setelah data dikumpulkan kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis deskriptif kuantitatif dan  kualitatif. Hasil penelitian memperoleh temuan model self-evaluation dapat meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran pemesinan 3 yang ditunjukan oleh meningkatnya aktifivitas, kemandirian, perhatian dan prestasi belajar mahasiswa.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe learning process of computer programming course requires the skills of programming flow arrangementand programming logic. The reading materials, exercises, and classroom discussion have not met the learninggoals of this course. Therefore, an additional media needs to be implemented to improve the learning process. Theprogram of macro recording in Microsoft Office can facilitate the students to have exercises and material analysisautonomously beyond the classroom activities.This study belongs to action research. The participants were the sixth semester students of Civil Engineeringand Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University, who joined computer programming course for4 months. This research employed two cycles, which was started by planning, implementation observation andfinally, reflection.The result of the research showed that there was an improvement of the learning achievement from 2.8 into3.29 for computer programming course by utilizing macro recording facility of Microsoft product.Keywords: Recording Macro, Learning Process

Abstract

The objectives of this study are: (1) to identify the subjects that have low scores contributing to the low grade point average (GPA) of the students and (2) to evaluate the reasons for the low academic achievement among the students. This study was conducted from May 2012 until September 2012. It was an evaluation study.The method used in this study was a comparative descriptive, by comparing the students’ GPA and the categories of the students’ achievement based on the Academic Regulations of Yogyakarta State University. In addition, the study also qualitatively compared the subjects in the departments which have low achievement. The population were all active students of Faculty of Engineering, YSU in the academic year of 2011/2012 who have scores of  below B in more than 3 courses. To evaluate the students who had low GPA, it is used purposive random sampling. The method of data collection used documentation, interviews and questionnaires. The data was analysed using qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis. The conclusions of this study were: (1) the subjects of the fields study had a very dominant contribution to low GPA of the students. The percentages of the field of study subjects having low achievement in bachelor and associate degree programmes were  84.2% and 87.7% respectively; (2) The reasons  for low achievement of the students  based on the students ‘point of view were: (a) the learning implementation aspects, especially from the lecturers (unclear teaching and explanation, inappropriate materials, excessive tasks and homework, the assessment process), (b) tight schedule  and (c) the intrinsic factors of the students. The reasons based on lecturers ‘point of view were: (a) the students’ input (low motivation, low quality, laziness), and (b) inadequate learning facilities both in terms of quantity and quality.

Abstract

Developer's expertise and user participation are two critical factors of successful School Information System (SIS). Many researchers focus on user-initiated and professional SIS, while this study observes a campus-initiated SIS which involves undergraduate developers and volunteer users. We qualify the system using the System Usability Scale (SUS) and observation. The final prototype reaches an acceptable level of SUS and the outcomes among students whose GPA above 3.0 are not much different, but we recommend to find students with good grades in the supporting courses. The volunteer users come from 2 public and two private schools in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. We also examined user participation and found they were good and even excellent, although each developer may have a different standard of perceiving user participation. This study also reveals user inconsistency and interface issues were still become problematic, as changes cause the project to be overdue.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini antara lain untuk mengetahui: (1) Kualitas Acacia Nilotica L. (daun oncit) sebagai pewarna kain sutera ditinjau dari ketahanan luntur berdasarkan pada perubahan warna akibat pencucian, (2) Kualitas Acacia Nilotica L. (daun oncit) sebagai pewarna kain sutera ditinjau dari penodaan pada kain putih akibat gosokan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif. Kualitas Acacia Nilotica L. (daun oncit) yang dimaksudkan dalam penelitian ini adalah ketahanan luntur warna kain sutera yang dicelup dengan zat warna Acacia Nilotica L. (daun oncit), menggunakan konsentrasi fiksator tunjung yang berbeda, yaitu 1gr/l, 2gr/l, 3gr/l. Sampel uji yang digunakan adalah kain sutera T 54 diambil secara random atau secara acak diagonal sesuai dengan SII nomer 0728 tahun 1983. Tingkat ketahanan luntur warna kain sutera yang dicelup dengan zat warna Acacia Nilotica L. (daun oncit) diketahui berdasarkan perubahan warna yang diukur menggunakan alat gray scale dan penodaan pada kain putih diukur menggunakan staining scale. Data hasil pengukuran dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) kualitas Acacia Nilotica L. (daun oncit) sebagai pewarna kain sutera menggunakan fiksator tunjung 1 gram, 2 gram, dan 3 gram ditinjau dari ketahanan luntur berdasarkan pada perubahan warna akibat pencucian termasuk kategori 3-4 atau cukup baik artinya kain sutera sedikit luntur bila dicuci,(2) kualitas Acacia Nilotica L. (daun oncit) sebagai pewarna kain sutera menggunakan fiksator tunjung 1 gram, 2 gram, dan 3 gram ditinjau dari penodaan pada kain putih akibat gosokan termasuk pada kategori 4-5 atau baik, artinya kain sutera tidak menodai kain putih.

Abstract

The rapid development of construction industry is fostering the construction service companies to hire sufficient and competent professional cost estimators who are mainly graduated from universities. This study aims to examine the students’ interest in contraction cost estimating and the effect of using real-object media and PowerPoints media in learning achievement of cost estimation. The method of this study was quasi-experimental conducted with a 2 x 2 factorial design using 40 samples. The instruments consisted of learning outcomes assesment and students’ interest testing with reliability coefficients of 0.92 and 0.81 respectively. The hypothesis was tested through variance analysis and Tukey test techniques. The research findings showed that there are interactions between the implementation of real object media and the students’ interests. For the students with high level of interest to learn, the implemetation of real object media did not give significant differences compared to the use of PowerPoints media. In the other hand, for the students with relatively low level of interest to learn, the real-object media is more effective than PowerPoints media. This finding is very useful for lecturers to improve learning achievement in cost estimation learning thus the graduates have the competence and expertise in the construction service industry.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah membuat robot untuk mengetahui koordinat pada perubahan permukaan dasar sungai. Penelitian ini menggabungkan berbagai disiplin ilmu seperti mekanik, elektronik, informatika dan disiplin ilmu lainnya. Salah satu aplikasi robot pada bidang teknologi adalah sebagai penentu koordinat pada perubahan permukaan dasar sungai sebagai media pembelajaran mata kuliah hidrolika. Dengan mengetahui perubahan dasar sungai setiap saat, maka dapat digunakan untuk memprediksi berbagai macam perubahan pada sungai tersebut seperti terjadinya erosi, pendangkalan, perubahan aliran dan lain sebagainya. Penelitian yang disampaikan adalah eksperimen yang dimulai dengan merancang sebuah aplikasi robot penentu koordinat pada perubahan permukaan dasar sungai yang selanjutnya hasil rancangan tersebut digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran pada mata kuliah hidrolika.Hasil penelitian yang dilakukan adalah bahwa model media yang dirancang dapat bekerja dengan baik dan dapat menentukan koordinat X,Y dan Z yang diatur melalui keypad dan komputer PC yang dikomunikasikan melalui Bluetooth. Waktu yang digunakan untuk mengukur satu kali lebar permukaan sungai 78 cm adalah  85,25 detik dengan prosedur operasi yang sangat mudah.
