Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mendeskripsikan kelayakan perangkat pembelajaran IPA berbasis inkuiri berdasarkan hasil penilaian dosen ahli dan guru IPA, dan (2) mengukur keefektifan perangkat pembelajaran IPA berbasis inkuiri dalam meningkatkan critical thinking skills dan scientific attitude siswa SMP. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah research and development (R&D) yang mengadaptasi model penelitian pengembangan Borg & Gall. Subjek uji coba produk terdiri atas 34 siswa kelas VII SMPN 14 Yogyakarta dan 52 siswa SMPN 1 Piyungan. Pengumpulan data menggunakan metode wawancara, observasi, angket, dan tes. Data dikumpulkan melalui pedoman wawancara, lembar observasi, lembar angket, dan soal tes. Data kelayakan perangkat pembelajaran dianalisis dengan menggunakan konversi skor skala 4. Keefektifan perangkat pembelajaran dalam meningkatkan critical thinking skills dan scientific attitude siswa dianalisis dengan multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) dan gain score. Hasil validasi dan uji coba produk menunjukkan bahwa (1) perangkat pembelajaran IPA layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran dan (2) efektif dalam meningkatkan critical thinking skills dan scientific attitude siswa. Kata Kunci: perangkat pembelajaran IPA, inkuiri, critical thinking skills, scientific attitude   AN INQUIRY-BASED NATURAL SCIENCE TEACHING PACKAGE TO IMPROVE STUDENT’S CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS AND SCIENTIFIC ATTITUDE Abstract The objectives of this study are (1) to explain the validity of an inquiry-based natural science teaching package and (2) to measure the effectiveness of an inquiry-based natural science teaching package to improve junior high school student’s critical thinking skills and scientific attitude. The method of this study was research and development (R & D) adapted from the development model by Borg & Gall. The product testing subjects consisted of 34 students of SMPN 14 Yogyakarta and 52 students of SMPN 1 Piyungan. The data collection techniques were interviews, questionnaires, observation, and tests. The data were collected using an interview guide, validation questionnaire sheet, readability questionnaire worksheet, pretestt-posttest questions, project assessment sheet, questionnaires, and an observation sheet.  The validity of the teaching package was analyzed by converting four scales. The effectiveness of the teaching package to improve student’s critical thinking skills and scientific attitude was analyzed through the multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) and gain score. The result of the validation and the product testing indicated that the teaching package (1) can be used in the natural science teaching and (2) can improve students’ critical thinking skills and scientific attitude effectively. Abstract

Biocomposites are composite materials comprising one or more phases derived from a biological origin. Biocomposite with natural matrix developed more rapidly because they are more environmentally safer. The objective of research was to modify natural matrix from lac insect secretion with adding hydrated latex, to study effect of adding hydrated latex to the functional groups and the intrinsic viscosity of lac insect secretion, and to measure mechanical properties of biocomposite from modified lac insect secretion and ramie fiber. A sulfuric acid solution was used as catalyst in hydration of latex and then natural matrix of lac insect secretion was modified by adding hydrated latex. Biocomposite was prepared by mixing rami fiber and modified  lac insect secretion. It was then pressed with hydraulic press at 150 kgf/cm2 and 150oC for 15 minutes. Biocomposites were characterized using tensile tester according to ASTDM D 638-90 Type IV. The adding of catalyst caused the decreasing of intrinsic viscosity of latex. The adding of hydrated latex to natural matrix caused the increasing of intrinsic viscosity and functional group of matrix. The using 30% of catalyst and adding 10% of hydrated latex produced biocomposite with strength at break of 0.982 MPa, elongation at break of 1.189%, and Young modulus of 0.929 MPa.Keywords: biocomposite, hydration, latex, lac insect secretion, ramie fiber. ABSTRAK Biokomposit merupakan material komposit yang tersusun dari satu atau lebih komponennya berasal dari bahan alam. Biokomposit dari matriks alam berkembang lebih pesat karena lebih aman bagi lingkungan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memodifikasi matriks dari sekresi kutu lak dengan penambahan lateks hasil hidrasi, mempelajari pengaruh penambahan lateks hasil hidrasi terhadap gugus fungsi dan viskositas intrinsik matriks, dan untuk mengukur sifat mekanik biokomposit dari matriks hasil modifikasi dengan serat rami. Lateks dihidrasi dengan variasi katalis asam sulfat 10, 20, dan 30% (m/m). Matriks alam dari sekresi kutu lak dimodifikasi dengan penambahan lateks hasil hidrasi sebanyak 5, 10, dan 15% (m/m). Biokomposit dibuat melalui pencampuran sekresi kutu lak hasil modifikasi dengan serat rami dan dipress pada tekanan 150 kgf/cm2 dan suhu 150oC selama 15 menit. Biokomposit dikarakterisasi menggunakan tensile tester sesuai dengan ASTDM D 638-90 tipe IV. Penambahan katalis menurunkan viskositas intrinsik lateks terhidrasi. Penambahan lateks terhidrasi meningkatkan viskositas intrinsik dan gugus fungsi matriks. Biokomposit dari matriks alam sekresi kutu lak termodifikasi lateks terhidrasi dengan penggunaan katalis 30% dan penambahan lateks terhidrasi sebesar 10% mempunyai kuat tarik sebesar 0,982 MPa, elongasi saat putus sebesar 1,189%, dan modulus Young sebesar 0,929 MPa.Kata kunci: biokomposit, hidrasi, lateks, sekresi kutu lak, serat rami.

Abstract

This research was about the development of learning source in chemistry education. The aims of this research are: (1) to arrange and to develop student's working sheet on chemistry science aspect for SMP/MTs based on the education unit level curriculum (KTSP) using quality criteria and (2) to evaluate quality the student's working sheet on chemistry science aspect based on the education unit level curriculum as required by science teachers of SMP and chemistry teachers of SMA. This research included two steps: arranging and developing student's working sheet on chemistry science aspects and evaluating quality of student's working sheet. The sheet was developed based on competency standard of chemistry science aspect at grade seven and eight including (1) substance classification, (2) substance state and changes and the properties in physical and chemistry changes, (3) matter particles, (4) the usefulness of chemical material in life, and (5) addictive and psychotropical. The sheet quality was evaluated by 2 SMP science teachers and 3 SMA chemistry teachers, and then the scores were compared with ideal score. The quality criteria of the sheet were interpreted from 10 aspects. The quality of student's working sheet on chemistry science aspect for topics (1) substance classification, (2) substance state and changes and the properties in physical and chemistry changes, (3) matter particles, (4) the usefulness chemical material in life and (5) addictive and psychotropical is very good with score 98.2; 98.8; 98.4; 102.4, and 102.2 respectively or 81.8%; 82.3%; 82%, 85.3% and 85.2%.

Abstract

The study aims at developing the valid Contextual Teaching-Learning (CTL) Approach-based audio visual learning media in order to improve the learning motivation and the critical thinking skills significantly and also at identifying the effectiveness level of the Contextual Teaching-Learning (CTL) Approach-based audio visual learning media in improving the students’ learning motivation and critical thinking skills. Therefore, autoatically the nature of the study is research and development. During the conduct of the study, the data were gathered by using the random sampling technique. Then, the data gathering instruments that had been implemented were the media assessment questionnaire, the observation, the motivation questionnaire and the critical thinking skills test. The results of the study show that the Contextual Teaching-Learning (CTL) Approach-based audio-visual learning media that has been developed by using the Borg & Gall model is considered valid. The students’ learning motivation has increased as having been confirmed by the fact that the students are more enthusiastic, more interested and happier in attending to the learning process. Furthermore, the results of the students’ critical thinking skills test in the experimental group show that 25 students have met the passing grade while the remaining 6 students have not met the passing grade. On the other hand, the results of the students’ critical thinking skills test in the control group show that 20 students have met the passing grade while the remaining 12 students have not met the passing grade. In other words, these findings show that the learning process through the use of the Contextual Teaching-Learning (CTL) Approach-based audio-visual learning media is able to improve the students’ learning motivation and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

In this research, preparation of natural matrix from modified flea secretion (SKL) by the addition of adipic acid as matrix in biocomposites of ramie fiber have been carried out. This research was initiated by dissolving the chunks of flea secretion using ethanol with ratio 1:2 and heated at temperature 50oC. Flea secretion has modified by the addition of adipic acid in various concentration 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%. Viscometry technique with viscometer ostwald was used for characterizing intrinsic viscosityof natural matrix. The optimum value of intrinsic viscosity were reached at concentration 5% of adipic acid that has 77,08 mg/l viscosity. Biocomposites were made by mixing ramie fibers and natural matrix SKL which have been modified by the addition of adipic acid with optimum concentration at 60:40ratio of fibers: matrix. Biocomposites were evaluated for mechanical properties with ASTM D638 type IV standard. Biocomposite sampel was formed specimens and tested with tensile tester. Biocomposite from ramie fibers and natural matrix SKL modified by adipic acid has a tensile strength 15,14 MPa and elastic modulus was 1519,15 MPa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri kain poliester yang terdeposit senyawa HDTMS (P-HDTMS) terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25924. Larutan HDTMS dibuat dengan melarutkan senyawa HDTMS dalam etanol 4%. Larutan HDTMS kemudian didepositkan pada sampel kain Poliester. Uji aktivitas antibakteri P-HDTMS dilakukan melalui metode difusi dengan mengukur diameter zona bening di sekitar sampel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa senyawa HDTMS telah terdeposit pada kain poliester. Hasil uji zona bening menunjukkan bahwa P-HDTMS memiliki diameter zona bening sebesar 9.25 mm pada waktu inkubasi selama 60 jam. Dengan demikian P-HDTMS mempunyai aktivitas antibakteri dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25924.This research aims to determine the antibacterial activity of polyesterwhich was deposited by hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDTMS) against bacteria Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25924.The HDTMS solution was made by dissolving the HDTMS compound in 4% ethanol. The HDTMS solution was then deposited on a polyester fabric sample. The antibacterial activity test of P-HDTMS was conducted with diffusion method by measuring the diameter of clear zone around the sample.The results of this researchshowed that HDTMS compound has been deposited on polyester fabrics. The clear zone test results showed that P-HDTMS has diameter of clear zone of 9.25 mm at incubation time of 60 hours. Thus, P-HDTMS has an antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureusATCC 25924.

Abstract

The coating of nanosized Chitosan/TiO2 composit on cotton fabrics substrate and its performance for dye of Rhodamine B was studied. Nanosized Chitosan/TiO2 composit coated on cotton fabrics was done by dip-coating method through pad-dry-cure technic. Cotton fabric thats was coated by nanosized Chitosan/TiO2 composit was characterized by SEM, XRD, and FTIR. Photodegradation Performance test of cotton fabric coated Nanosized Chitosan/TiO2 composit for dye of Rhodamine B was done under UV ray and sun ray.  It was concluded that was cotton fabric coated nanosized Chitosan/TiO2 can decompose dye of Rhodamine B with UV ray more effective than sun ray. Abstract

This study was aimed at developing and describing the feasibility of analytical thinking and science process skill instrument for Senior High School chemistry in the material of reaction rates. The study was conducted in five senior high schools in Yogyakarta. The instrument development used the 4-D model including defining, designing, developing, and disseminating. Analytical Thinking and Science Process Skill (ATSPS) instrument was validated by expert judgement and chemistry teachers. The data obtained were analyzed using the descriptive, qualitative, and quantitative methods. Findings show that evaluation of the the developed ATSPS instrument has a validity index of 0.95. Product evaluation of the instrument done by the Senior High School chemistry teachers obtained a score of 530 within the good category. The percentage of teachers’ responses to the chemistry assessment instrument is 88.33%. Therefore, ATSPS instrument is feasible to be used for measuring the knowledge and skills of the Senior High School students integrativelyINSTRUMEN PENILAIAN KEMAMPUAN BERPIKIR ANALITIS DAN KETERAMPILAN PROSES SAINS KIMIAPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan dan mengetahui kelayakan instrumen penilaian kemampuan berpikir analitis dan keterampilan proses sains kimia peserta didik SMA/MA pada materi laju reaksi. Penelitian dilakukan di lima SMA/MA di Kota Yogyakarta. Pengembangan instrumen menggunakan model 4-D (Four-D Model) yang meliputi tahap pendefinisian, perancangan, pengembangan, dan penyebaran produk. Instrumen Analytical Thinking and Science Process Skill (ATSPS) yang telah dikembangkan divalidasi oleh expert judgement dan guru kimia. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa instrumen ATSPS yang telah dikembangkan memiliki rata-rata indeks validitas isi sebesar 0,95. Berdasarkan hasil penilaian produk yang telah dilakukan oleh guru kimia SMA/MA diperoleh skor sebesar 530 dengan kategori sangat baik. Persentase respons guru terhadap instrumen penilaian kimia sebesar 88,33%. Oleh karena itu, instrumen penilaian kemampuan berpikir analitis dan keterampilan proses sains kimia layak digunakan untuk mengukur kompetensi pengetahuan dan keterampilan peserta didik SMA/MA secara terintegrasi

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui: (1) perbedaan aktivitas belajar dan pemahaman konsep peserta didik yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan strategi guided note taking dengan yang tidak mengikuti pembelajaran dengan strategi guided note taking apabila pengetahuan awal dikendalikan; (2) sumbangan penerapan strategi guided note taking terhadap aktivitas belajar dan pemahaman konsep; (3) respon peserta didik terhadap strategi guided note taking. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuasi eksperimen dengan desain posstest-only. Instrumen yang digunakan meliputi lembar observasi, tes pemahaman konsep dan angket respon. Analisis data menggunakan uji MANCOVA dan nilai partial eta-squared. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) terdapat perbedaan aktivitas belajar dan pemahaman konsep antara peserta didik yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan strategi guided note taking dengan yang tidak mengikuti pembelajaran dengan strategi guided note taking apabila pengetahuan awal dikendalikan; (2) sumbangan strategi guided note taking terhadap aktivitas belajar dan pemahaman konsep adalah 24%; (3) respon peserta didik terhadap strategi guided note taking sangat baik.
