Abstract

Kata kunci: Filsafat, kenegaraan, pakeliran   The philosophy of statehood in the narrative of pakeliran art   Abstract This article examines the philosophy of statehood reflected in the narrative of pakeliran art performed by the puppeteer Ki Panut Darmoko using a qualitative approach. A hermeneutic method is applied to interpret the philosophical meanings found in janturan narratives, dialogues, and symbolic elements of the performance, while cultural theory serves as the analytical framework to reveal values of civic and national education rooted in Javanese local wisdom. The data consist of pakeliran texts and performance documentation, which are analyzed interpretatively and systematically. The findings show that pakeliran art contains values of state philosophy that contribute to the development of nationalist and patriotic attitudes, leadership, social responsibility, and moral character. These values are conveyed through character portrayal, narrative structure, and cultural symbols that represent the Javanese worldview. The study confirms that pakeliran art functions not only as entertainment but also as an effective and contextual medium for civic education. Therefore, a state philosophy grounded in traditional cultural values should be introduced and transmitted to younger generations to support cultural preservation and character building. Abstract

Learning batik can enhance students' critical thinking skills, but many students still struggle to describe, analyze, and solve problems effectively, which hinders the achievement of learning objectives. This study aims to improve the learning process and critical thinking of students through the OIDDE learning model that focuses on batik content. This study uses classroom action research, the Kemmis and McTaggart model. The study was conducted starting with pre-action, cycle I, and cycle II. Each cycle includes the planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 32 students. Data were collected through interviews, observations, questionnaires, tests, and documentation, and analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods supported by quantitative data. The results of the study showed that (1) the learning process was carried out according to the syntax of the OIDDE learning model, there were improvements made in cycle II based on reflections from cycle I, and (2) students' critical thinking increased significantly, from 28.1% in the pre-action stage to 65.6% in cycle I, and 83.75% in cycle II. These results indicate that the OIDDE model is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills in learning batik material.

Abstract

The phenomenon of speech delay in early childhood in Indonesia is increasingly prevalent, with estimates ranging from 5% to 8% among preschool-aged children, according to the Indonesian Pediatric Society (IDAI). One environmental factor under scrutiny is children's exposure to non-dialogue animated films, which are widely broadcast on Indonesian television, such as Larva, Shaun the Sheep, and Masha and the Bear. These shows rely heavily on visual storytelling and character expressions without spoken dialogue, raising concerns about their impact on children's language development. This study aims to analyze how children aged 3 to 8 interpret non-dialogue animated films through a visual semiotic lens. Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory is employed to examine the denotative and connotative meanings of visual signs, while Charles Sanders Peirce’s model is used to classify signs into icons, indices, and symbols. Using a qualitative descriptive method, this study analyzes visual texts and observes children's interpretive responses. The findings indicate that although children can grasp basic narrative messages through visual cues, the absence of verbal language input may hinder vocabulary growth and expressive language development, particularly in the absence of adult interaction. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the relationship between non-verbal media consumption and the risk of speech delay in early childhood in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study investigates how cinematography, informed by the female gaze, functions as a medium for articulating women's trauma in the context of domestic violence, as exemplified by the short film WATI. The research utilizes a practice-based methodology, positioning the film creation process as the primary data source. The analysis centers on key still photographs, applying a descriptive-reflective approach to examine framing, lighting, blocking, and body gestures. Findings reveal that extended close-ups and asymmetrical framing foreground Wati’s body as a locus of internal experience, while low-key and underlighting accentuate the psychological dimensions of trauma. Restrictive domestic compositions and passive gestures, such as silent submission, subtly communicate resistance. The faint smile in the after-credit scene operates as a mask of trauma, inviting viewers to engage with the character’s internal wounds. Collectively, WATI advances the discourse on the female gaze by rejecting objectification and presenting the female body as a site of tension among wounds, resignation, and defiance.

Abstract

Dance learning in high schools is dominated by conventional methods of memorizing movements, while critical thinking and art appreciation aspects are less considered. This study aims to analyze the needs and design a prototype of an interactive learning video based on Indonesian traditional dance to improve students' critical thinking skills and dance appreciation. Using Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model in the initial stage (Analyze and Design). Data were collected through observation, teacher interviews, student questionnaires, and a pretest administered to 36 grade 10 students in public high schools in Jakarta. The needs analysis revealed that teachers primarily used PowerPoint, resulting in students being passive and struggling to understand the meaning of dance symbols. The student questionnaire confirmed that most preferred visual and interactive learning media to help understand cultural symbols in dance. The pretest results also showed that students had low initial abilities in interpreting the meanings of movements, symbols, and aesthetic elements of dance. Based on these findings, an interactive learning video was designed to serve as the primary contextual and interactive learning medium, integrating critical thinking and appreciation skills in dance education for high schools.
