Abstract

Teenagers are the changing time in which often do trial and error and also juvenile delinquency. An example of juvenile delinquency is free sex. Teenagers’ knowledge and attitude in preventing HIV/AIDS becomes the factor of teenager to free sex. One of the ways to improve teenager’s knowledge and attitude is doing education about health which is delivered using Talking Stick method. Experiment design used is quasy experimental with non equivalent pre post control group design. Sampling method using systematic random sampling with the total teenagers is 68 which consist of 34 control group and 34 intervention group. The result of analyzing data using Wilcoxon test is p value knowledge = 0,000 and p value attitude = 0,001 whereas the comparison between control group and intervention group using Mann Whitney test is p value knowledge and attitude is 0,000 and α = 0,05 so p value < 0,05. The analysis result show that is knowledge variable before talking stick application 61,8% have enough knowledge. After talking stick application 67,7% have good knowledge. In attitude variable before talking stick application is 67,6% have positive attitude. After talking stick application 100% have positive attitude. The conclusion is there are meaningful effects of Talking Stick to the knowledge and attitude of preventing HIV/AIDS to the teenagers in Puger 1 Junior High School and knowledge and attitude have differented between experiment group and control group. Recommendations are given to nurses is to be able to facilitate consultation about preventing HIV/AIDS to provide early knowledge for teenagers. Abstract

Motoric development in the first two years is important for the children's cognitive function in the future. Mother has to know about the child development stage and early stimulation to optimalize child motoric development. The aim of the research was to assess the relationship between mother's knowledge of early stimulation and motoric development in 6 – 24 months old children. This research was conducted in Mayang sub-district of Jember in January until February 2013 by using the matched case control study. The respondents were 259 children in age of 6 – 24 months and their mother. Children with normal motoric development were included in the control group and children with suspected motoric development delay were included in the case group. Mother from both groups were examined retrospectively about their knowledge of early stimulation. Data were analyzed using Marginal Homogeneity test and Conditional Logistic Regression test. Bivariate analysis showed a significance value (p=0,000) and the Odds Ratio value 4,950. It was concluded that there was a significant relationship between mother's knowledge of early stimulation and motoric development in 6 – 24 months old children and children with low knowledge in early stimulation-mother have a higher risk of suspected motoric development delay. Keywords: child development, early stimulation, mother's knowledge, motoric development.

Abstract

Background: Stress has negative impact for oral health and can cause periodontal disease, because the secretion of cortisol increase when stress occur. The excessive secretion of cortisol assumed to decrease the number of lymphocytes and macrophages in gingiva which play a role on immunity of oral health. Objective: To determine the effect of electrical shock stressor on the number of lymphocytes and macrophages in gingival tissue of Sprague Dawley rats. Methods: Sprague Dawley rats were given electrical shock for 7 days (S1), 14 days (S2), and 28 days (S3). Lymphocytes and macrophages observed on histological preparation in interdental gingiva between first molar and second molar used binocular microscope, 1000x magnification. Result: The results showed that the number of lymphocytes in S1 group (3,67±0,816), S2 (3,83±0,752), and S3 (3,17±0,527), also macrophages in S1 group (0,83±0,752), S2 (1,00±0,894), and S3 (0,67±0,816) were lower than the number of lymphocytes (0,67±0,816) and macrophages (2,00±0,632) in control group. The number of lymphocytes (p = 0,002) and macrophages (p = 0,033 ) had significant difference between groups. Conclusion: The electrical shock stressor decreased the number of lymphocytes and macrophages in gingival tissue of Sprague Dawley rats that could cause the oral cavity risk to periodontal infection.   Keywords: electrical shock stressor, gingiva, lymphocytes, macrophages, stress

Abstract

High work climate and high workload can cause overstress and metabolic heat in the body wich will potentially affect workers hydration status. Industrial workers often carry out physical work in hot working environments with high workload (physical workload) over a long period. Loading and a high work climate can cause overstress and metabolic heat so that workers have the potention dealing with heat stress and dehydration due to excessive sweating issue and it will affect the workers hydration status. This study purpose was to find out the relationship between physical workload and work climate due to workers hydration status unit P2 (wood working 1) WW1 section in PT. KTI Probolinggo. This study used quantitative approach, an observational analytic type with cross sectional design. Based on statistical tests result using Spearman and Chi Square, the factors associated to hydration status were age with a positive linkage direction and drinking water consumption with a negative linkage direction. Unrelated factors were gender (p value = 0.688), nutritional status (p value = 0.333), years of service (p value = 0.626), physical workload (p value = 0.333), and work climate (p value = 0.105). The advice given based on this research is adding more water consumption, adding glasses according to the number of workers and drinking water needs of each worker, providing education of body fluid needs for hot working environments including signs of dehydration and how to prevent it, setting-up diagram poster shows the importance of drinking water consumption in hot working environment. Keywords : Physical Workload, Work Climate, Hydration Status.

Abstract

Background. Endothelial basal membrane of vasculature is composed mainly by type IV collagen. This vascular collagen degradation is the most powerful stimulus for platelet aggregation and thrombosis. This phenomenon is the basic mechanism of the pathogenesis of atherothrombotic diseases. Streptococcus mutans, the main bacterium of dental caries can invade easily into blood circulation, and therefore they have chance to involve in the pathogenesis of vascular destruction and thrombosis. It was assumed that S. mutans caused vascular destruction due to its potency to induce neutrophil proteinase activity to degrade type IV collagen. Objective. This study purposed to proof in vitro that S. mutans could induce and activate neutrophil proteinases leading to degradation tipe IV collagen. Methods.  Collagen degradation was analysed by means of Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate Polyacrylamid Gel Electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and Soluble Biotinylated Assay (SBA). Results. Results showed that S. mutans induced production and activation of neutrophil proteinases leading to type IV collagen degradation into six fragments with the molecular weight were 129; 95; 50; 32; 28; 14 kDa. Conclusion.  S. mutans induced neutrophil proteinase activity leading to degradation of type IV collagen. This study might explain one of mechanisms role of S. mutans in initiation of atherothrombotic diseases.   Key words: Streptococcus mutans; Type IV collagen; Neutrophil

Abstract

Coffee can be classified as a psicostimulant which cause person stay awake. Coffee contains any ingredients such as caffeine.Caffeine could improve the performance of athletes. VO2max is a highest ratio of oxygen consumed during intense physical activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of caffeine consumption on VO2max and exercise recovery pulse. The study used experimental research with Randomized Clinical Trial (RCT) methods. There were 20 volunteers, who were divided into two groups. The control group was given a drink that contains no caffeine while the treatment group was given a drink containing caffeine. Then all volunteers were asked to perform Modified Bruce Treadmill Test procedure until exhaustion occurred then VO2max.The next 4 days were washing out period where the control and treatment groups swap the roles. The results showed the average value of VO2max in the treatment group was 30.69 ml/ kg/min higher than in the control group 25.98 ml/ kg/min, but the duration of pulse recovery in the treatment group was 127 minutes slower than the control group, 121 minutes, indicating to its effects as a stimulant. In conclusion, administration of caffeine increased VO2max, but delayed time of pulse recovery.   Keywords: Modified Bruce Treadmill Test, pulse recovery, caffeine,VO2max
