Abstract

This study was done in response to Farida’s finding ( Farida, 2015) about the analysis of errors made by the eighth grade students of junior high school in one of the schools in solving mathematical story problems which showed that their mathematical ability was still low. The students’ low ability in solving mathematical story problems was caused by their low ability in understand mathematics. This aim was aimed at describing data on students’ ability in understanding mathematics as the result of the implementation of discourse teaching with Mathematical Bet Line strategy. This study was a quasy experiment with nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of all students of the fourht gradde in one schooll in Kuningan district, Kkuningan regency. The study used mathematical ability test based on indicators developed by Skemp (1976). The statistical analysis used in this study was independent sample t-test. The result showed that the improvement in the students’ mathematical understanding ability of those who learned through discourse teaching with Mathematical Bet Line strategy was better than that of those who learned through Direct Instruction in the topic criterion. Fraction the improvement in mathematical ability was shown by N-gain of 0.67 , falling in the medium criterion.

Abstract

The Indonesian government has currently implemented a hybrid learning program for in-service teachers who want to enroll in the Teacher Profession Education program (locally known as Pendidikan Profesi Guru). This Case study aimed to identify English teachers' perceptions on the challenges and accelerated-learning factors of online learning. 15 English teachers who were the participants of the said program hosted by Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha and 2 English mentors were the participants of the study. The informal interview was the main data collection technique which was transcribed verbatim and content analyzed. The participants of the study perceived 4 challenges of online learning, such as participants' lack of ICT skills, the incompleteness of the uploaded modules, instructors' unfamiliarity with the learning software, and the excessive assignments to be finished in limited time. There were 4 factors considered to accelerate teacher's learning: the mentor factor, the participant factor, the managerial factor, and the facility factor.

Abstract

This research aimed at investigating whether or not there was a significant difference on writing competency of the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Singaraja. This research was experimental research with Pre-test and Post-test Only Control Group Design and used cluster random sampling technique to determine the samples. There were two classes chosen as samples in this study. The two groups were given treatments to obtain the required data. The experimental group was taught by using Blended Learning Strategy and the control group was taught by using conventional technique. The obtained data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. The mean score of experimental group (81.10) was higher than the mean score of control group (78.83). Moreover, the result of inferential analysis showed that there was a significant difference on students’ writing competency between the students who were taught by using Blended Learning Strategy and those who were taught by conventional technique (Sig.(2-tailed) = 0.022, p < 0.05). The alternative hypothesis is accepted in which the students who are taught by using Blended Learning Strategy achieves better than those who are taught by using conventional technique.

Abstract

PBL is one of the constructive learning models. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find out whether PBL was more effective in enhancing academic learning outcomes and creative thinking skills with different classes. This research was began by compiling instruments, carrying out the learning process, analyzing data, and presenting it in the form of reports. The results showed that the average value of student learning achievement was 73.29 in the experimental class and 74.40 in the control class. This average value was then tested by the hypothesis using the right tailed T-test. The right tailed T-test was used to find out whether the learning achievements of students taught with PBL were higher than those taught conventionally were. Through the T-test with the help of SPSS, the results of tcount 0.514 obtained < ttable 1,670. Conclusions from the results of the analysis show that the learning achievement of the experimental class students is smaller or equal to the control class. Data on creative skills were tested by precise nonparametric analysis, the Mann-Whitney test because data was not normally distributed. Through the Mann-Whitney analysis with the assistance of SPSS, it was obtained z values for creative thinking skills 5,608> 1,65 for creative thinking skills data. This means that the creative skills of students taught by PBL were higher than those taught conventionally were.
