Abstract

Seorang dokter gigi mempunyai risiko terkena dan menularkan infeksi dari pasien ke pasien lainnya (infeksi silang).Infeksi dapat disebabkan oleh kecelakaan seperti tertusuk instrument tajam, tangan yang tidak steril, serta melalui mulutdan saluran pernafasan. Penyakit menular dapat ditularkan melalui darah, saliva, maupun lesi dengan kontak tangan.Kontrol infeksi merupakan cara dokter gigi menghindari bahaya infeksi silang. Penelitian ini ingin mengetahui upayadokter gigi di Kota Makassar dalam pencegahan terhadap bahaya infeksi silang di tempat praktiknya. Penelitian inimerupakan penelitian observasional deskriptif. Populasi dokter gigi umum yang terdaftar sebagai anggota PersatuanDokter Gigi Indonesia (PDGI) cabang Makassar sebanyak 258 orang, jumlah sampel sebanyak 100 orang (laki-laki=19,perempuan=81) diambil secara purposive sampling berdasarkan pendapat Gay dan Diehl dengan antisipasi drop out 20%.Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan upaya pencegahan bahaya infeksi silang dengan pencapaian 51-75% dilakukan oleh52% responden, 76-100% dilakukan oleh 46% responden, 26-50% dilakukan oleh 2% responden, serta tidak adaresponden yang mengupayakan pencegahan bahaya infeksi silang dengan pencapaian 0-25%. Upaya pencegahan denganpencapaian 51-75% sebanyak 52 responden (52%) dan 76-100% sebanyak 46 responden (46%), dapat dikatakan telahmemenuhi standar. Sebagai kesimpulan, 98% dokter gigi kota Makassar telah cukup baik mengupayakan pencegahanbahaya infeksi silang saat melakukan perawatan di tempat praktiknya.

Abstract

Di satu sisi perlu kekasaran pada permukaan preparasi, akan tetapi di sisi lain penghalusan juga perlu dilakukan. Sampaisaat ini, belum ada data mengenai pengaruh penghalusan dinding preparasi menggunakan bur karbit terhadap kekuatantarik semen luting. Tekanan tarik yang akan melepaskan suatu restorasi cekat dari tempatnya akan menimbulkan tahanandari semen luting yang disebut kekuatan tarik. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penghalusanpermukaan oklusal preparasi terhadap kekuatan tarik semen luting pada lempeng logam. Penelitian ini menggunakanrancangan eksperimen posttest-only control group design. Spesimen gigi yang telah diasah dengan 3 bur yang berbeda(bur intan coarse, bur intan fine, dan bur intan coarse + bur karbit fine) diberi semen luting (ionomer kaca atau zincphosphate) untuk menyemen lempeng logam. Logam ditarik dengan alat uji kekuatan tarik (PM 100 Galdabini). Datayang diperoleh diolah untuk menentukan kekuatan tariknya, dianalisis dengan uji Anova satu arah dan dilanjutkan denganuji LSD jika diperoleh hasil yang signifikan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penghalusan hasil preparasimempunyai kekuatan tarik lebih besar (0,47 N/mm2) dibandingkan yang sama sekali tidak dihaluskan (0,25 N/mm2). Ujistatistik menunjukkan ada pengaruh penghalusan dinding preparasi terhadap kekuatan tarik semen luting pada lempenglogam (p<0,05). Sebagai kesimpulan, penghalusan dinding preparasi yang dapat memberikan kekuatan tarik yang palingtinggi bagi semen luting adalah yang dipreparasi dengan bur intan coarse dan kemudian dihaluskan dengan bur karbitfine.

Abstract

Penyakit periodontal merupakan suatu penyakit multifaktorial yang mengenai jaringan periodontal di rongga mulut. Salahsatu penyebabnya adalah penyakit ginjal kronis. hemodialisis yang dijalani individu dapat meningkatan pembentukankalkulus dan menyebabkan inflamasi gingiva di rongga mulut. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubunganantara penyakit ginjal kronis dan kesehatan jaringan periodontal pada pasien yang menjalani hemodialisis. Penelitiancase-control dilakukan pada dua kelompok pasien: kelompok pertama terdiri atas 33 pasien penyakit ginjal kronis yangmenjalani hemodialisis sebagai kelompok uji dan kelompok kedua terdiri atas 32 pasien tanpa penyakit ginjal kronissebagai kolompok kontrol. Indeks gingiva, indeks perdarahan papila dimodifikasi, kedalaman poket, dan kehilangan levelperlekatan klinis diukur dan informasi yang terdapat dalam kuesioner meliputi variabel-variabel seperti status penyakitginjal kronis yang diderita, status hemodialisis, kebiasaan menggosok gigi, riwayat penyakit sistemik dan dental.Kemudian data dianalisis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan indeks gingiva, indeks perdarahan papila dimodifikasi,kedalaman poket, dan kehilangan level perlekatan klinis lebih tinggi secara signifikan pada kelompok uji dibandingkandengan kelompok kontrol (p<0,05). Ada hubungan antara penyakit ginjal kronis dan kesehatan periodontal. Sebagaikesimpulan, penderita penyakit ginjal kronis memiliki status periodontal yang lebih parah dibandingkan dengan pasientanpa penyakit ginjal kronis.

Abstract

Periodontitis agresif adalah penyakit inflamasi pada jaringan periodonsium yang mengakibatkan terjadinya kehilanganperlekatan dan resorpsi tulang dengan cepat. Terjadinya periodontitis agresif dihubungkan dengan dominannya bakteriAggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (A. actinomycetemcomitans) dalam plak gigi. Teh hijau (Camellia sinensis)merupakan minuman kesehatan yang memiliki efek antibakteri. Penelitian dengan desain eksperimental laboratoris inibertujuan untuk mengetahui efek antibakteri rebusan teh hijau terhadap pertumbuhan A. actinomycetemcomitans sebagaiagen penyebab periodontitis agresif. Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans yang telah dikultur di media AaGM dandiinkubasi pada suhu 37oC dalam suasana anaerob dan penentuan kekeruhan bakteri dilakukan dengan spektrofotometri.Uji pengaruh rebusan teh hijau terhadap pertumbuhan A. actinomycetemcomitans dilakukan dengan metode difusi agar.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rebusan teh hijau (Camellia sinensis var. sinensis) membentuk zona hambat terhadappertumbuhan A. Actinomycetemcomitans di sekitar kertas cakram dengan kemampuan daya hambat sedang. Sebagaikesimpulan, rebusan teh hijau memiliki pengaruh antibakteri terhadap pertumbuhan A. actinomycetemcomitans sebagaiagen penyebab periodontitis agresif

Abstract

Penilaian risiko kesehatan (HRA) sering digunakan sebagai contoh di dalam alat pendidikan kesehatan untuk merubahperilaku seseorang, seperti menjelaskan tentang plak sebagai penyebab penyakit karies gigi, kemudian tentang caramenghilangkan plak dengan menyikat gigi secara tepat dan teratur yang diberikan oleh kader kesehatan di Posyandukepada ibu pengunjung Posyandu. Tujuan penelitian mengevaluasi efektifitas tailored message KMGS dalam upayameningkatkan kesehatan gigi dan mulut anak balita. Jenis penelitian adalah penelitian potong lintang. Jumlah respondenyang menandatangani inform consent adalah 54 pasangan ibu dan anak balita, kemudian dilakukan pemeriksaan gigilengkap, TOT kepada kader Posyandu khususnya cara mengisi KMGS yang digunakan mengukur risiko ECC. Kegiatandilakukan selama 3 bulan, responden dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok yaitu 23 pasang kelompok kontrol dan kelompokintervensi 31 pasang ibu dan anak, di Kelurahan Tugu Depok. Evaluasi kebersihan gigi dan mulut, terdiri atas skor plakdan skor kematangan plak, dan perilaku ibu pada bulan kedua dan ketiga setelah promosi kesehatan gigi. Seluruh datadianalisis statistik dengan uji Anova dan korelasi Pearson. Hasil penelitian setelah 3 bulan di intervensi, terlihat skorkematangan plak 0 meningkat secara signifikan (p<0,05), dan peningkatan pada skor perilaku ibu dengan nilai > 51terhadap kesehatan gigi (p<0,05), disamping itu ada hubungan yang bermakna antara kebersihan gigi anak denganperubahan perilaku ibu dengan nilai Pearson’s r 0,337 (p<0,05). Sebagai kesimpulan, program promosi kesehatan gigidan mulut di Posyandu oleh kader menggunakan tailored message dalam bentuk KMGS efektif meningkatkan perilakudalam pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi dan mulut, yang berdampak menurunkan faktor risiko ECC pada anak balita.

Abstract

Surface hardness of acrylic resin as denture base associated with the habit of consuming foods and beverages such as water, acid, coffee, and tea. Ulee Kareng Aceh coffe was a kind of Robusta coffee which contains of acidic properties. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of acrylic resin’s immersion duration in Ulee Kareng Aceh coffee for 1, 3, and 5 days to surface hardness. Eighteen specimens (acrylic resin merck QC-20, 5 mm diameter and 2 mm thickness) were randomly divided in three experimental groups (immersion for 1, 3, and 5 days). Hardness was measured before and after immersion using Knoop Microhardness Tester by Shimadzu. Data was analyzed statistically by Wilcoxon and Kruskal Wallis test. The results of the study showed that there was significant decreasing of acrylic resin’s immersion duration to surface hardness between before and after immersion for 1, 3, and 5 days (p < 0,05). Kruskal Wallis test showed the surface hardness of acrylic resin was significantly different (p < 0,05) between after immersion for 1, 3, and 5 days. In conclusion, the value of surface hardness was decreased by increasing of acrylic resin’s immersion duration in Ulee Kareng Aceh coffee.

Abstract

Halitosis or breath malodor may have negative efffect in communication. Halitosis is caused by chemical sulfur known as volatile sulfur compound (VSC) as a result of sulfur containing of amino acid degradation by anaerobic bacteria. Halitosis can be prevented by toothbrushing with tooth paste. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of teeth and tongue brushing with dentrifice containing of amiloglucooxidase and glucooxidase enzyme. This experimental clinic study was conducted in the Clinic of Periodontology, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Indonesia. Subjects consisted of 77 students aged 17-30 years old, divided into 2 groups, 39 subjects conducted to brush their teeth and tongue with amiloglucooxidase and glucooxidase enzyme and 38 subjects conducted to brush their teeth and tongue with non enzyme tooth paste. The measurement of VSC level used cromatography gas, conducted after 30 minutes after teeth and tongue brushing. The result showed that there was no statical different in reducing VSC components in both groups (p>0,05). In conclusion, teeth and tongue brushing with dentrifice containing amiloglucooxidase and glucooxidase enzyme were not different to decrease the VSC level compared with non enzyme paste.

Abstract

Oral candidiasis is the third major opportunistic infection in people with HIV/AIDS. The antifungal has a very important role to prevent candidemia. But the use of antifungal has developed resistancy, for this reason it is important to find other high potent and cost effective antifungal. In this study Aloe vera was choosen because of its beneficial properties which has already been proven scientifically. The objective of the study was to investigate antifungal effect by finding the minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) and minimal fungicidal concentrations (MFCs) of Aloe vera leaf to Candida albicans isolated from oral cavity of HIV/AIDS patients, and to Candida albicans ATCC 10231 strain as the control group. Ethanol was used for the extraction of the leaf after obtaining the gel from it. MICs and MFCs were tested by tube dilution technique. Eight identified samples of Candida albicans isolated from oral cavity of HIV/AIDS patients. The result showed that from 3 samples had MIC 25%, and 4 samples 50%. MFC showed 1 sample in 12.5%, 3 samples in 100%, but 4 samples could still grow in 100% concentration with different number of colony forming units. As the control group, Candida albicans ATCC 10231 showed MIC in 25% and MFC in 75%. In conclusion, aloe vera plants seem to have promising role to cure oral candidiasis in HIV/AIDS patients because of its antifungal and immunomodulatory properties.

Abstract

Currently, bone graft is recommended to improve and support the biological repair of bone defects properly. Bone graft was found to cause death in the donor area, long pain, infection, cosmetic deformity, hematoma, the amount of blood loss, injury or damage to the nervous in the donor area. Synthetic bone graft material was developed as a scaffold that serves to template the formation of bone. The ideal scaffold should be biodegradable, osteoconductive and osteoinductive. During there graft materials have not optimally provide the morphological, mechanical properties, biocompatibility and biodegradation, and osteoinductive-osteoinductive. Silica is proven to support and promote primary osteoblast growth, synthesis of matrix proteins, collagen type I, so that it can cause bone formation. Rice husk contains of silica is high enough. Because of abundant material and its potential in bone formation, needs to be done research on silica from rice husk in the manufacture of synthetic bone graft. The purpose of this study was to analyze the amorphous silica from waste rice husks as synthetic bone graft material (scaffold), especially against osteoblasts proliferation. Type of study was an experimental laboratory. This research was conducted by isolating the amorphous silica from rice husk. Primary osteoblast cultures derived from calvaria rats aged 2 days, growing in Alpha Modified Eagle Medium (α-MEM) (as negative control), α-MEM that in condition with 58S silica (as positive control group) and α-MEM condition with silica from rice husk (as treatment group). Osteoblast proliferation was observed with Quick Cell Proliferation Assay Kit for 7 and 14 days. The result showed that the rice husk silica was significantly (p <0.05) osteoinductive, osteoblast cultures demonstrated that its proliferation was higher in the groups that were implanted in the culture medium condition with 58S silica. In conclusion, rice husk amorphous silica is potentially osteoinductive scaffold for synthetic bone graft material.

Abstract

Gingivitis is one type of periodontal disease and it is chronic in nature. The main etiological factor of gingivitis is bacterialplaque. Untreated gingivitis can spread to underlying tissues and it can become periodontitis and produce tissuedestruction. One of the treatments for gingivitis is plaque removal, helped by antibacterial mouthrinsing to reducebacterial plaque. Lawsonia inermis L. leaves have been used by Indonesian villagers for healing skin wounds andreported to show antibacterial effect in vitro and in vivo. This study aimed to determine the effect of Lawsonia inermis L.leaves infusion in gingivitis healing. A total of 63 gingivitis patients devided into 5 groups were instructed to rinse with 3concentrations (50000 µg/mL, 10000 µg/mL, 5000 µg/mL) of Lawsonia inermis L. leaves infusion; 0.1% hexetidinesolution, and placebo as control. Papilla Bleeding Index (PBI) used in measurement for bleeding on probing. The resultshowed that decreasing of PBI in Lawsonia inermis L. leaves infusion at 10000 µg/mL concentratation (80%), wasstronger than hexetidine 0.1% (76%). In conclusion, Lawsonia inermis L. leaves infusion effective to reduce PBI betterthan hexetidine. In conclusion, Lawsonia inermis L. leaves is effective to treat gingivitis.
