This article discusses some English phonological rules and their phonological process. The rules dealt with in this article include aspiration, nasalization, vowel lengthening and regressive assimilation with fixed spelling—just to limit; despite the fact that there are more phonological rules. Each of the rules under study is described in terms of generative phonology followed data analysis to justify the application of the rules in line with the underlying forms. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesadaran lintas budaya dan etika akademik mahasiswa calon wisudawan FBIB-UNISBANK 2015 untuk mengetahui profil lulusan sebagai basis penetapan kebijakan publik FBIB (Fakultas Bahasa dan Ilmu Buda). Oleh karena itu peniltian ini menggunkan metode survei dengan menggunakan instrument pengumpulan data berupa angket (Kwesioner), dengan menggunakan perangkat lunak Monkey Survey, baik pada tahap pengumpulan maupun analisis data. Angket ini berupa link yang diunggah ke media social (Facebook) diakses seluruh lulusan FBIB-UNISBANK tahun 2015 pada periode 2, yang berjumlah 12 orang, namun hanya 7 orang berpartisipasi dalam survey. Kwesioner berisi beberapa variabel yang dapat mengungkap sejauh mana kesadaran lintas budaya dan etika akademik calon wisudawan tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya kecenderungan positif bahwa calon wisudawan sudah terbekali dengan pengetahuan lintas budaya meskipun baru pada tingkat kognitif. Oleh karena itu peneleti merekomendasikan penelitian lanjutan dengan metode observasi dan interview mendalam untuk mengunkap tingkat kelintas budayaan mahasiswa pada ranah motoric dan afatif. This research entitled Employing Question Writer Software Application (QW3) to create Quizzes in reading classes. Evaluation is very important in teaching including teaching English as a foreign language and the quiz is one of the evaluations. As the rapid development of computer, technology and internet in society, the uses of this software can be very helpful for the lecturers mainly for those lecturers who want to apply the technology mainly software: Question writer (QW 3) that is really practical used in evaluation, quiz etc. This study is classified as an exploratory research in nature as it attempts to explore every bit of features at Question Writer QW3, a quiz maker application to see how much engineering can be used with respect to creating a particular quiz. This online quiz has received favorable responses from the students. The majority of them agreed that the online quiz is good to use as for practice. One of the reasons is that online quiz can be done elsewhere if the students happen to be able to do at the time of being assigned. Question Writer (QW) is a paid software application. It develops over time and on a regular basis. At the moment we are using QW3 and QW4.

Sebagai bahasa yang merupakan bahasa ibu para siswa kelas VII H SMP Negeri 1 Toroh, seharusnya mata pelajaran bahasa Jawa bukanlah mata pelajaran yang sulit. Akan tetapi pada kenyataannya, sebagian besar siswa menganggap mata pelajaran tersebut cukup sulit. Salah satu materi yang kerap dianggap sulit oleh para siswa adalah materi yang berkaitan dengan aksara Jawa, baik itu menulis maupun membaca. Seringkali ditemukan kesalahan-kesalahan siswa dalam menulis aksara Jawa terutama dalam hal penerapan pasangan aksara Jawa. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah secara teoretik pembelajaran dengan menggunakan media kartu aksara Jawa dapat meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menerapkan pasangan aksara Jawa pada siswa kelas VII H SMP Negeri 1 Toroh semester genap tahun 2015/2016. Hasil akhir tindakan tersebut menunjukkan terjadinya peningkatan rata-rata ulangan harian sebesar 31% dari kondisi awal dan peningkatan ketuntasan belajar sebesar 121% dari kondisi awal. Artikel ini adalah paparan atas temuan mengenai formula dan ideologi di dalam cerita silat Indonesia (Indonesian cloak-and-dagger stories) atas telaah formula dan ideology terhadap dua karya cerita silat berjudul Hantu Bara Kaliatus karya Bastian Tito dan Dendam Sembilan Iblis Tua karya Asmaraman Sukowati Kho Ping Ho. Telaah formula dilakukan atas adanya pandangan bahwa cerita silat merupakan salah satu genre sastra populer yang salah satu karakteristiknya adalah alur cerita yang formulaik. Sedangkan telaah ideologi dilakukan berdasarkan anggapan bahwa selalu ada ideologi yang tertanam di setiap karya sastra. Hasil telaah mengarah pada kesimpulan bahwa formula di dalam cerita silat seragam, sebagaimana ditunjukkan pada kesamaan formula pada Hantu Bara Kaliatus dan Dendam Sembilan Iblis Tua. Sedangkan dalam hal ideologi, hasilnya bervariasi, sebagaimana ditunjukkan pada adanya terdapat perbedaan yang kontras antara cerita di dalam Hantu Bara Kaliatus dan Dendam Iblis Tua, dalam hal relasi laki-laki dan perempuan. Raden Ajeng Kartini is one of Indonesian heroines who lived in early 1900. She is the pioneer in woman’s emancipation in Indonesia. Her brilliant and encouraging ideas for women are written in her letters. Learning from her letters is a good way to realize that women nowadays are not living in the darkness era but brightness era. Kartini has done something remarkable at that time though she was imprisoned because she is a woman. She wrote that she was living surrounded by thick walls during her growth from a girl to a woman. The world outside was out of her reach because the Javanese tradition forbid a girl and woman to go outside of their homes especially for royal families. Her reading help her thinking that women should not give up to fight for their freedom because women also have their rights like the right to choose their future husband, to get education and to work. She has written letters to her close friends in Netherlands and those letters are compiled into a remarkable writing containing many wise lessons especially for female. According to Barbara Ehreinrich (1976) that the socialist and feminist both have something in common that is they are critical ways of looking at the world. Both rip away popular mythology and “common sense” wisdom and force us to look at experience in a new way. Both seek to understand the world – not in terms of static balances, symmetries, etc. (as in conventional social science) – but in terms of antagonisms. They lead to conclusions which are jarring and disturbing at the same time that they are liberating. There is no way to have a Marxist or feminist outlook and remain a spectator. To understand the reality laid bare by these analyses is to move into action to change it. This article is about an analysis of Kartini’s ten short writings as parts of her letters using socialist feminism. Keywords: socialist, feminist, social feminism

Particular literary works have a great significance that they can also act as historicaldocuments through which readers can trace back the phenomena of the society in theera in which those literary works were written. One of those literary works isAugustus Baldwin Longstreet’s “The Fight”, a short story which was said to be thecornerstone of the birth of southwestern humor literature. Falling into the category ofliterature of the frontier, this short story depicts the lives of Georgian people asfrontiersmen in the early 19th century. This study’s objective is to unveil howAmerican frontiersmen is represented by the author and how this representation isrelated to the Georgian society at that time. This study found that there was a historyof violence among frontiersmen, there was glorifying masculinity, and there was dirteatingperversion due to the harshness of the nature of the frontier and the socialcondition at that time.Key words: humor, southwestern humor, frontier, frontiersmen

This study is aimed at (1) construing qualitatively the need for developing of alistening model for their twelfth graders; (2) designing a listening model whichcould be attached to a web – e-learning system. The researchers also quantitativelyanalyze the index of difficulty and that of discriminating power; (3) construing theresponses of the English teachers and their twelfth graders towards the designedlistening model. The results indicate that teachers really need a listening modeldesigned on the bases of the present curriculum. Secondly, the model can beimplementable and executable though with moderate difficulty index and low indexof discriminating power. Finally, it is known that the English teachers display theirpositive attitude towards the model. However, the twelfth graders do not indicatetheir positive attitude towards it.Key words: listening model, e-learning, discriminating power, index of difficultylevel

This study tried to re-examine the the significant role of literature as readingmaterials in class, and the appropriateness of involving students in teaching andlearning process in which they were supposed to provide reading materials forclass discussions. With the text provided by the students, hopefully they would beencouraged to read; thereby increasing their reading interests. However, the twocycleaction research revealed that such learning and teaching processes did notcontribute to improving their reading preferences. Interestingly the seemingly lessinterests in reading did not have any effects on their reading scores. There weresignificant increases in the pre-test and the post-test, indicating that the studentsstill managed to read the texts for good scores. It is therefore recommended thatthe use of authentic texts in line with the students’ major be still preferable.

The current study aims at analyzing the perception of the students of FBIBUNISBANKwith respect to class conduciveness, the use of code switching andinformation technology in order to depict the profile of teaching and learning processas the basis of further formulating FBIB (Faculty of Language and CulturalStudies)’s public policies. Therefore, a survey method was employed with theresearch instrument for data collection in the form of questionnaire, developed insoftware application called SurveyMonkey (paid application). The questionnairewas then embedded to a website for the respondents to complete. There were 17respondents for classroom conduciveness and 13 respondents for the use of codeswitching and information technology. Findings showed that FBIB classrooms arerelatively conducive in terms of class atmosphere and infrastructure. The use of codeswitching is encouraged for clarification. Meanwhile IT has been used at moderatelevel to complement the process of teaching and learning. It is thereforerecommended that classroom conduciveness be maintained with a regular check-upfor possible instrument breakdown; code switching be selectively used and teachers’computer literacy be upgraded.
